How long is your driver shaft (thats what she said)
erock9174 replied to kjb008's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Really surprised this club had that high of a swing weight as well. I figured it would be more like the new 9088 UL which is a D0. I know at 282grams total its the lightest Speedline driver they make. -
after going over to Dicks, the salesman said the extra 25% sale ended Sat night. He said that could pop back up though to keep checking back.

this is golf galaxy you are talking about.....they never mentioned anything about swing weight nor corrected it. To be honest, I don't think at my level I am even good enough to notice the SW difference. When I got my r9 cut down earlier this year I was all worried about this after reading posts here. I added lead and it felt no different to me. Just must not be sensitive enough to feel this. Does it hurt the club to not have it corrected? I was always under the assumption that as long as it doesn't feel too light for you it should play ok. I have a slower tempo swing. -
Can anyone confirm the $79.99 + another 25% off at Dicks on the S2 FW's? I just called and they have some stock of them left but he said the clearance price was $79.97 but never mentioned anything about an additional 25% off.

Does the grip effect club length?
erock9174 replied to erock9174's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Cool thanks for the info. I wondered what degree the plate the sole rested on was. -
Did you decide on anything? I was bagging a ping k15 w wood earlier this year. I made much better contact with it over the 3wood without a major loss of distance. Maybe 10 yards tops. I recently traded it in to get an r11 3w and I regret it big time. Stupid trade in promo got the best of me. I could hit the k15 from the fairway with ease. I have yet to make a nice shot off the fw with the r11. If you plan to use this off the tee, then a 3w might be the better option, but I am sure you will game a driver soon, so the 5 wood might be For a high handicapper, newbie to golf I would suggest something with a draw bias. Fairway woods are probably the hardest club in the bag to hit. Might as well use the game improvement technology.

Does the grip effect club length?
erock9174 replied to erock9174's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thanks for the input guys. I went home and realized my dumbazz was measuring from the toe of the club instead of the heel and my block of wood I was using was bowed. So my readings were useless. I tried again tonight and got really close to what Golf Galaxy measured after cutting down my club today. If they measured without a grip, it looked like the grip might have added 3/16" max. So nothing major. This was a tour pride undersized grip. -

"Abhorrently".....nice Cool thanks for the input. I actually got my Adams 4g cut down today. Adams lists it at 46" but Golf Galaxy said it was 45 1/2" so I had them take it down to 44 1/4". Feels much better now but I haven't had a chance to take it to the range yet. I hit some used drivers while waiting and I noticed that full length drivers, even gripping down an inch or so I was pushing right. I found a Callaway driver that seemed really short. I hit it a few times and noticed they were going pretty straight and some even a little draw. I had them measure it and they said it was 43 3/4"....thought to myself, hmm maybe I should have went another 1/2" lol Even on the longer clubs, the more I gripped down, the more closer to center I got. -
Gents, I recently bought an Adam's Speedline Ultralite 4g driver. Stated length on the Adams site is 46". I built a homemade jig by basically taking a block of wood and placing its along the sole of the club, then measuring out from the wood to the end of the grip. I also got 46" myself. Today I took it to golf galaxy before having it cut down and they said it measured 45 1/2", on their jig. So that got me to thinking, does the butt end of the grip have extra rubber that extends beyond the shaft? And is that the reason my measurement is off? ie. maybe Golf Galaxy takes this into consideration and doesn't count that extra piece of rubber causing their measurement to be shorter than mine?

Any shorter guys like me...I am 5' 3" (5' 4" with my golf shoes on). What length is your driver? I have played lengths of 46", 45 3/4" and 44 3/4" this season alone. they all still feel too long for me. -
GolfTec Golf Lessons - Feedback, Discussion
erock9174 replied to chauvotsm's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I was never able to access my web lesson from the JW promotion. To make up for it the pro there told me to come back in for another free session. So I did. This time since my swing was now on plane he noticed I wasn't taking a full backswing. So he gave me a drill to work on and then setup the system to beep when I got to the correct shoulder turn position. that was enlightening. I felt like I was going to spin out of my shoes, lol. I learned though by taking a slower backswing I could reach this position without feeling like i was going to fall over. Upon leaving I asked if he could tell me if the driver I was playing was correct for me. he basically said that the head was good for me but that I was getting too much backspin out of the driver. he couldnt recommend a good shaft he said without me paying for the full $100 Driver/Shaft fitting where they do a thorough analysis. A bit bummed but oh well, you can only get so much good info for free. If I had the extra money I would definately go back for more lessons. Oh and the web lesson appeared this time. -

When I did mine last month I couldnt find it on their site either. I actually went to the golftec site and clicked on the Live Chat. Explained to the guy that I couldnt find the promo and he signed me up right then and there. -
Adams Speedline 4G Ultra-Lite Driver
erock9174 replied to Alley Cat's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Old thread but is anybody currently gaming these? I saw one on clearance sale at my local shop for $199 Like the looks of it so I scoured the net last night and found a reputable seller had it for $79 shipped brand new sealed so I couldnt pass it up. Especially with the positive reviews in the March issue of Golf Magazine. I talked to Mitsubishi and they said the made for Adams Bassara (R flex) shaft is for swing speeds of 80-90 mph. That fits me perfect as my average is about 85mph. The only knock I could find on this driver was that it was not offered in a stiff flex. But it seems Adams was going for the market such as myself to help improve distance with a light driver for players with controlled tempos and slower swings. Can't wait to try it out. Currently gaming either a Nickent 4dx (2008) or Callaway FT-IQ (2008). Hopefully I see some distance gains over them with the newer technology. Right now I only carry about 200 yds with those drivers. -
Difference in TaylorMade irons
erock9174 replied to stevejason's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The Burner Plus is another good option for those wanting a more traditional looking head but a wider sole to help with mishits. I can vouch that they really do help a ball get up and go straight on thin hits. I would put them somewhere in-between the 2.0 and the SuperLaunch as far as game improvement goes. for example: 2.0 - GI Burner Plus - Super GI SuperLaunch - Ultra GI -
Why can I hit long irons but not wedges?
erock9174 replied to finesse57's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Check the swing path or divot and make sure you are coming inside out across the ball. At the beginning of this year I had the same problem with making solid contact with clubs 8 - PW. I found out after a range session that I was taking the club back too inside and consequently coming over the top on the downswing, (with flying right elbow) and outside /in across the ball. This also led to alot of pulls when I actually did strike the ball. To fix it, I did the old towel trick. Put my golf towel under my right armpit and made sure it did not fall out throughout my swing. The ensures that your right eblow does not fly out on you throughout the swing. Immediately started making better contact. Granted, it feels awkward but gives you a sense of keeping that right elbow tucked in and low on the downswing -
Just replaced 2 hybrids with one R11
erock9174 replied to jpalermo's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Great minds thing alike, I just bought the same clubs as you (R11 3w and Rescue 11 21*) with the Taylormade trade-up program going on at Dicks and Golf Galaxy. I have the 3w adjusted up to 16.5* loft with "C" on the adjustable plate. At the range its a rocket off a short tee. downside is I had the chance to hit it several timess off the deck yesterday and couldn't muster any good hits and when I did it was a push right. At 5'4" clubs always seem way too long for me, so I went over to GG today and had them cut 3/4" off if it. Hopefully that straightens it out for me and makes it easier to handle. Hate gripping down on clubs. I've had problems hitting hybrids all season. The Rescue 11 seems to be jiving with me so far. I have it set at +1 loft (so 22*). This in effect closes the face a little. Which for me is a good thing as my longer clubs tend to leak on me. Had a chance to hit it out of some deeper rough and it got the ball up very easily, just played it back in my stance more than normal. Off the tee on layups it drew. So I may take it back to 21* to get the draw bias out of it. So that is one thing to note to any of the r11 owners out there. If you add loft using the FTC hossel it closes the face (draw bias), if you lower the loft it opens the face slightly for a fade bias. So be mindful of that. The manual that came with both never really explained this. Or at least it wasn't evident to me. I do like the head size on the 3w. Always tough to hit a fw out of the rough, but the head size allows for it if your swing is good enough. My prior fw was a K15 5w and with the wide and deep head it would always get hung up in the rough. The K15 was the easiet fw i have ever hit off the deck. -
How to choose the right Hybrid?
erock9174 replied to jswang519's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I say go to a place that has a simulator and grab every brand off the shelf and see what feels to be the most comfortable and consistent to hit. I've had a hard time picking the right hybrid. So far since Jan I have played the following: TM Rescue 07 19* (3h) Ping G15 17* (2h) Ping G15 20* (3h) Nickent 3dx ironwood 23* (4h). Scrapped them all and today bought a TM Rescue 11 21* (4h). Is it the answer, who knows but after one range session and some swing tweaks I made some progress and It started to feel pretty good. The Rescue 11 is nice that you can add or reduce the loft. I added a degree of loft using their FCT hossel so its playing at a 22* which also closes the face some. This helped with the ball leaking to the right. I really have to concentrate on taking an inside out swing path. If I am off plane I cant even make solid contact with a hybrid. People say hybrids are forgiving but I find my 22* 4 iron is a much easier club to hit. -
short golfer (length of irons)
erock9174 replied to ronmcc02's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
If you are playing the the remaining set of ping orange dot irons, I would measure your 8 iron and 6 iron, add the lengths up and divide by 2 and I bet that would give you the 7 iron length. My guess if its an orange dot ping, those are typically for shorter players and are probably 1/2" shorter than standard length. I too am 5 4" on a good day, lol and I currently use TM Burner plus irons. Standard they are 1/4" longer than Pings so when I was fit they took off 3/4". I was also fitted for Pings that day and they were 1/2" shorter and also adjusted the lie to 2* flat. -
Shaft recommendation to help reduce ballooned drives
erock9174 replied to erock9174's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
So far I haven't made a shaft change but I did get a chance to hit balls on the simulator the other day. One thing I noticed was, they had 2 tees set up in the bay. On the higher tee the ball rested about halfway above the clubhead and the lower tee placed the ball just a tick above the head. I was always under the assumption that if you play the ball of your left heel that you need to tee the ball up very high. Curiosity got the best of me and I gave the lower tee a shot and immediately gained 20-25 yards, slightly lower launch angle and much less backspin. Granted this was on the simulator but it actually seemed to be working right that day (at least the distance was ballpark). Plan to try out the lower teeing of the ball on the course asap. -
Shaft recommendation to help reduce ballooned drives
erock9174 replied to erock9174's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I am just going by what he told me. I didnt have an opportunity to write down any of the numbers. I believe he said my angle of attack and swing plane looked really good. That I impacted the ball with my club on the upward swing. He said the numbers below looked good as well as far as the efficiency of my swing speed and how it related to my Ball speed. Roughly off the top of my head, I remember these numbers: Swing speed 90 Ball speed 128 1.42 ratio Launch Angle: normally in the 15 to 17 range. Backspin: 3900-4000. I asked if I could try an r11 12* R flex and my backspin came down to like 2200 but my launch angle was only 9*. He said my Callaway clubhead was working for me but the shaft was creating that extra backspin. I figured he was the paid professional I would take his word for it. -
Now that my swing is more consistent I am hitting straight drives however my distance is suffering because of a ballooned flight path. I went to Golftec today and the confirmed this on their monitor. Lauch angle and efficiency numbers were really good for my swing speed. But backspin was about 3900-4000. They said it was shaft and not head issue. I currently play a Callaway FT-IQ 13* Driver with Mitsubishi Rayon 60 Shaft (R) flex. Shaft specs: T 3.6 Low kick 58g Swing speed with controlled swings about 84mph, Swing speed with more agressive shoulder turn about 90. Looking for a shaft that could control the ballooning. I would like to keep with the I-mix system and callaway offers these shafts. here are some options...Any recommendations? UST ProForce V2 HL 3.8T; Low Kick Aldila NV65 3.6T; Mid kick 68g Aldila NVS 55 4.7T; Low kick Fuijukura Speeder 686 4.2T; Low kick; 66g Aldila Black Voodoo 60 (couldnt find specs) Graffaloy Axis Blue 4.0T; Mid kick Graffaloy ProLuanch Blue 65 2.8T; Low kick Fujikura ZCOM65 Tour 2.8T; Mid kick; 67g Mitsubishi Rayon Fubuki 63 Tour 3.7T; Mid/High Kick; 62g

Are hybrids able to be fitted for lie?
erock9174 replied to inthecup's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have a 2 degrees flat hybrid from Ping. If you want a hybrid from Ping with an adjusted lie, the club has to be ordered. It's the head that is different, not simply an adjusted hossel. How you can tell is, the degree symbol on the club is a different color. For example standard lie the degree symbol (*) is black, 2* flat, the (*) is purple. -
I feel your pain when it comes to hybrids. I hit my 4i and 5w fairly well but when it comes to hybrids I just struggle. So far since Jan I have gamed: Taylormade 19* '07 Rescue Nickent 24* 3dx hybrid Ping G15 17* and now playing a Ping G15 20* hybrid. The TM was the easiest to hit for me. The Ping 20* when struck right can be a thing of beauty but I just haven't mastered it yet. Sort of regret trading the '07 rescue in.

Had a chance to try out my new techniques learned during the free 30 min session at the range today. Granted it wasn't perfect but when the stars aligned and I followed the right swing plane, my shots looked really good. I haven't been able to hit a 20* hybrid this entire summer and was growing frustrated with hybrids in general. I gave it one last shot and just received a new Ping G15 20* this week. Granted not every shot was great with it but the ones I did everything right had a very nice trajectory and actually flew farther than I expected. I think before another range session or on the course play happens I need to hit about 200 wiffle balls in the yard just to get this inside out swing down pat. Very tough to keep my right elbow tucked as low as it needs to be. That alone has been the biggest hurdle so far. If I try to exaggerate it I take it FAT.
