  1. They are both awesome courses. A great use of old carrot and sod farms.
  2. I think that a better choice if golf is the priority would be Florida or Arizona and plenty of members here can elaborate. If warm water is the main reason for the trip then Jamaica is a good choice. Tryall and the White Witch are good courses near Montego Bay, and Ocho Rios has a decent course in the hills and is a nice day trip from MB with Dunns River Falls among sightseeing opps. Go Green.
  3. Forgot Venezuela although the course was forgettable.
  4. Looking at the week between Christmas and NYE in Napa, SF and Monterey. Probably have time for 3 rounds and immediately thought of Pacific Grove and Bayonet/Black Horse. Is there a Napa course that is can't miss that won't cost a fortune, or an SF course that to hit in the early afternoon as part of drive down to Monterey anyone can recommend? This won't be a Pebble or Olympic type of trip, but is there a "hidden gem" that would keep us from a stopover at Gearhart?
  5. The "sloppy iron" has been the biggest adjustment for me so far.
  6. Sun is out here too. Just booked a time to sneak out this afternoon!
  7. I agree 100%. Umbrellas don't work for me and definitely are useless in the wind!

  9. I am now fortunate to live in an area that permits year-round golf. This comes with a price, playing in rain and on wet turf. I would like to solicit advice on what adjustments members suggest when playing in rain and wet conditions. Let's leave rain gear recommendations out of this topic except for how that may affect the swing and other factors.

Bettman is old news and the time for him to resign has been ticking overdue for years. If you want to pile on the Chicago hockey team (and Bettman) on some of the most deplorable incidents; look into times drunken Patrick Kane skated away with no action from the league. Bettman works for the owners so do you really expect him to protect players on his own accord? On the other hand how does Donald Fehr keep his job?
  11. Good synopsis Boog. I tried to read H's books but maybe due to living in Dallas surrounded by "Penick evangelists", combined with his writing style just didn't fit my reading desires. As far as getting as close as possible I agree 100%. I would much rather mess up a chip than scuff a "perfect 100 yard" club. 😛
  12. Actually last Sunday...Twilight at The Home Course teeing off at 2:30 ish with a more than usual amount if wind. Finished the first nine +2 with 7 routine pars (GIR and a longer but that did not fall but left basically a tap-in. The two bogies were due to a failure to get u and down from a bunker and a miss hit 2nd on one hole. Probably the best ball striking all year but it felt pretty routine and like it was supposed to happen. Even successfully made the adjustment for the WA wet season reduced (lack of) roll-out. Too bad we had an extremely slow group somewhere out ahead and darkness started to hit and only finished 13.
  13. But does it have a stereo, beer tap and maybe a condom dispenser?
  14. I would just play anything as it lies in this or similar cases.
  15. Linguists are literally making sure they are literally employed.
  16. Does anyone else get annoyed at the incorrect usage and/or over usage of "literally"? Why does someone think they need to tell you "I literally just arrived." when you saw them come in the door? It makes me want to "figuratively" jump off a bridge.
  17. Should have been DQ'd. However, since he is a good friend of 3 committee members he was summoned in for discussion of the issue. After a few hours of drinking and a good meal the matter was forgotten.
  18. Can't actually say anyone i have played with has actually been a "D". There has been that potential with many randos, but things have turned out mostly ok even with excessive focus on weed and other oddities here and there. The other "d" moves have been more with encountering aggressive drunks cutting in on 10, carts nearly running into the creek (a 20 foot drop), balls flying into or past our group and the like. But nothing like the territorial member that was overly interested in handicaps of my wife and I on a "fun" holiday tourney. Caused us to remove a R$#@ M*#&% course from our regular play list after politics and doubling of greens fees.
  19. I don't post on rounds much but this one was a little special. Raining most of the day and were told we could tee off 20 minutes early in front of high school practice. Rain stopped and sun came out just after teeing off and the course was wide open. Started off hitting a bunch of pulls and snap hooks on the first 7 holes. Still somehow saved par on 3 with a 15' putt, birdied 5 with a nice 60 after banging my drive off a tree into the fairway short of the penalty area. Four over after 6 and should/could have been 10 over. Then chipped in for birdie at 7 followed by 6 consecutive pars (3 that just missed for birdie), next two holes were birdie and another birdie chip in. Bogie saved with a 12 footer foreshadowed a dismal ending, but followed that with 2 pars to end it. All under 3 hours and with a 35% aerification discount. Is that an awesome day or what?
  20. I played through winter last year and plan to do the same again this winter. The only difference is that I dress for a little rain and cooler temps, and adjust to no roll on most shots.
  21. Definitely a pass in my opinion. If you are going to spice it up for TV make it more entertaining. For example add a shot clock, alternate shot with a real terrible amateur, or a worst ball scramble with partners that have a sense of humor. For these two guys just give them a few "gotchas" each.

  23. Interesting that Broadie chose a normal distribution, which is understandable if data are not available. How would you handle the golfers that may miss more often to one side or another? This might be especially true on a sidehill putt. The distribution in this case would seem to be skewed to the side of the predominant miss, much like a "pull hitter" in baseball. Perhaps better putters would tend towards a tighter, more "normal" distribution; while for really bad putters the distribution could vary with the individual and differ from normal. Even if normal the "poorer putter curve" would be much wider, with an low peak.

  25. ESFP - I don't read too much into these things because when I take them I can see both sides for many questions. That ends up resulting in many answers in the neutral area, and a few questions often push results to another category. This can be particular true with the larger number of "boxes". I agree with some of the results in varying degrees haha.
