One thing I've found by using the internet is that people of different generations have very different tastes in humor and wit. I'll post something obvious to me and my generation as tongue in cheek wit and a different generation will take it as dead serious and be very critical leaving me very bewildered. I can not understand the dislike for Miller, I appreciate his style, he's not trying to offend, it's just that PC people, or those of a different generation have different taste on what is funny or appropriate. (speaking in generalities here, there will be numerous exceptions of course)

Fuzzy Zoeller and Greg Norman: Playoff, US Open . . . no way Fuzzy wins against the great Norman right . . . Rocco is like Fuzzy, laughing, joking, having a great time, Woods is a unbeatable monster . . . don't be surprised if Rocco wins, he seems to be in a real good frame of mind right now, and Tiger's knee is going to be an issue.
-
Anyone remember Trevino-Nicklaus . . . how Lee got into Jacks head by chatting and joking. You have a similar situation here. Rocco may just take Tiger down. That last putt . . . no way that falls for most people. I went out on the practice green after that and putted at the edge and not one ball slipped in like that, all of them lipped out. Maybe Woods has a little invisible fairy steering the ball into the hole.

It's Roc and Roll time, or is it Roll the Roc time? All he has to do is nail some putts, shoot 1 under and win.

For complete details on the PGM program and a career as a PGA professional, you can go to the Web site PGA.com/employment, then click on “PGA and You.”
-
I didn't know that, I saw that some players in Q-School played terrible and I believe anyone can register if they have the $$$, but this needs to be confirmed.
-
To get on the PTA Tour, all you need is about $5000+ to register for Q-School, then you have to make it to Q-school finals and finish in the top 25, then you're in. If you mean just being a PGA professional, you need to go through a program I think it's 6 months, and then shoot two rounds at a qualifier under 80 (I believe) and you can get your card. Or get on the Nationwide Tour by qualifying and finish high on the money list.

The Best Sounding Driver In Your Opinion
RX Phoenix replied to r7 425's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Love the FT-5 THUMP . . . nothing like it. 905R is great but you have to hit the heck out of it, high swing speed. -
More likely he'll try that green again and have it roll off again, just to try and prove something. What Phil needs to leave out of his bag is his brain.
-
Don't be surprised if Woods doesn't win, he was 1 under on his round today, and that included that 2 eagle, 1 birdie back nine surge . . . if the magic doesn't fall for him tomorrow he may come up short with that bum leg, but when has the magic ever failed him once he is leading? Should be great drama, but I'll be playing golf.

I was suprised today to hear Tiger say that he wore metal spikes, I know Phil wears them, I wonder how many pro's wear them?

Identifying counterfeit Callaway clubs from eBay
RX Phoenix replied to Zeph's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Just about everything these days is being counterfeited especially golf clubs, ebay is a major worry. Just because someone has positive feedback doesn't mean much. Recently ebay changed their policy and now sellers can't leave negative feedback for buyers, so buyers will now more likely report being ripped off, which is something that takes place frequently on ebay, I've suffered numerous times from very bad transactions. It's a gamble at best. Callaway service will respond and let you know. -
Is there really a 'longest ball' out there?
RX Phoenix replied to dave s's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I just started a thread on this topic and can verify that this is really true, even among the 'best' balls, there can be significant differences based on launch conditions. As far as longest ball, I recommend gettng a ball that will hold the green on long approach shots, check up after a bounce on chips, and putts soft . . . for me it's still the ProV1 and I've not found a cheap substitute, or even an expensive substitute. TopFlite is advertising a new 3 piece ball which might be worth looking into. -
Hope that they are yelling towards someone else! Fortunately at my home course the holes are spread out and there never is any 'fore!', but at a nearby local muni, you are taking your life in your hands and the holes are just set up to get hit, very dangerous and I won't play there.

I've seen Woods do the improbable time and time again starting with his 3 amateurs, which were incredible victories full of long putts dropping, and the incredible has just kept happening, and it just happened again at the most opportune time. It is way beyond explanation, two incredible putts for eagle and hitting the stick and dropping, all in a stretch of 6 holes on the back nine of moving day at the Open to take the lead . . . sounds like a movie script. Anyone who has played a lot of golf knows that these things just don't happen, there is so much that can interfer, it's one thing to hit the stick, another to drop straight down, those putts were in the heart, what are the odds? Tiger is both lucky and good, I take my hat off to him. He's going to have a rough go tomorrow because of his knee, and I still say that it's going to affect his game. If he wins what can anyone say, destiny. I'm sticking with my pick,Geoff Ogilvy.

Does the great short game player need 5 wedges? Phil could probably get by with 2 and just open or shut the club face to adjust. Maybe he should be carrying 2 3woods? . Phil often does things which look good on paper but don't work out in application. Why is he missing fairways, probably swinging too hard. I predicted Phil had no chance to win because of the obvious reasons . . . that he's bound to find a way to outsmart himself . . . just didn't think he would do it before the round even began.
-
Have never tried it, maybe if you're playing by yourself it might be OK, but I can't see it as a trend to push as everyone has very particular tastes in music.
-
I use a GPS to measure drives and other shots and I come in at 240 most times. In measuring other player's shots and asking them what they think they have driven, they tend to believe their shot is 20 yds or more longer than it really is. If someone says they usually hit it 280, it's probably 260. The longer hitters can get it out there 280, but not many get it past that. If you have a firm downhill fairway, that's where you get the 300 yd drives.

Remember the 84 Romo carded . . . well Chris Stroud, a PGA Tour player came in at 84, and a few non-tour qualifiers were over that number, so Romo's score is very respectable. The course is playing tough, a lot of guys shot themselves almost out of it, very surprising to see some no-names leading, and a lot of relative unknown US players up near the top, a rough day for a lot of stars. If that is a normal FT fairway metal Phil is playing I'm happy because I have one arriving any day now .
-
I like Ogilvy to win . . . has the game and the guts to get it done Brandt Snedeker . . . just missed at the Masters Justin Leonard . . . straight hitter with great short game, he's hot right now Shaun O'Hair . . . very steady great young talent Hunter Mahan . . . time to break out Tiger will have problems putting as the days progress. Phil has never won and there's reasons for that. Scott isn't good enough with the flat stick, neither is Sergio.

Are the New Cutting Edge Putters Any Good?
RX Phoenix replied to RX Phoenix's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Now that I've played quite a few rounds with the Monza Spider I can report that it is a fabulous putter, it wasn't just 'new putter syndrome' of increased focus that leads to temporary results, this putter really is top notch. Had a lot of comments and questions about it on the course, and several of the better players have asked to try it out and were very impressed. One commented that I sold him on it after draining several long putts in a row. The truth is that it has increased my desire to play golf because I have so much confidence on the green now, and this carrys over to chipping and wedge play as I know if I get it close I'm going to make the putt more often than not, so it has changed my game more than I expected, and will probably lower my handicap by several strokes due to this 'trickle-down' effect. -
Wedges: Cleveland CG versus Titleist Vokey
RX Phoenix replied to La Costa Golfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Went from Cleveland CG to TaylorMade TP's, and now Callaway X-forged . . . the CG's and TP's are staying in the closet, I really believe that Callaway has developed a great wedge, especially with the MD grooves available on 56 on up. My experience is that these wedges are a bit better than the other two and have to be considered in any talk about the best wedges. -
Your Breakthrough Moment
RX Phoenix replied to TheGolfingDetective's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Just yesterday, I finally understood the importance of high spin balls around the green (always been a bump and run player until now) as I was landing my chips/pitches hole high and they were just stopping dead for short putts. It was the combination of ProV1's and my new Callaway X-forged 56* Mack Daddy (MD) grooves. Unbelievable spin off of even soft chips, very little roll if any on the ball. Equipment can made a big difference. It wasn't any different technique I was using. -
Talk about bragging rights, Romo's going to have them if a pro does go higher! And the pro is never going to hear the end of it, a little bit of pressure now and a side story to watch.
-
Had him at 112, pretty close to what he shot, but Romo . . . what a beast to shoot 84, maybe he's playing too much golf and not enough football? Anyway a tip of the hat to some really fine play, and Timberlake and Lauer, also got the job done. Goes to show a 6.5 is a lot better than a 10, and a 2.2 is a lot better than a 6.5, more than just the numbers indicate, the tough course brings out the difference.
