So, I've finally scheduled my first lesson. Picked up the game last summer, got hooked. I've slowly wittled away with my swing and scores. Really looking forward to this lesson. I talked to the instructor for awhile on the phone asking what his philosophy with teaching was and what I could anticipate for the lesson on Monday. He basically stated he doesn't care what your swing looks like, just as long as you get the club on plane and in the right positions and impact - and then you can do that consistently and repetitively. Anyways, just wanted to share my excitement with the forum.

Fellow Southeastern Michiganders...
MSUGolfer replied to nikeman6's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I just kind of cry... No really, there's a few domes near East Lansing that I head to along with a heated driving range. -
Have you seen some of the golfers lately? You can't honestly think that. If that were the case the only golfers that would be wearing sponsered brands such as Nike, Titleist, Callaway, etc, would be the ones in shape. Ya, I'm sorry but you are just wrong about that. I mean look at Dustin Johnson he's a fairly wirey guy, you think Taylormade is telling him to go beef up those biceps? Or Graeme McDowell? He's a fat Irishman (no offense I like him). Sponsers will always sponser guys who are talented at something that will get them noticed. If they happen to look like a model then so be it.

Definitely would think swing path is much more consistent in golfers then club face per say. I mean if you think about a round you might have, you will probably have a distinct shape of shot you are hitting that day. As the ball flight laws clearly state, the shape of the ball is determined by the swing path while the club face angle at impact determines where the ball starts out. My natural swing path and ball flight is a fade. Now how much of a fade and where the fade goes depends entirely on what my club face angle does at impact. Open face - push fade. Closed face - pull fade. See my point? I think it is far easier to manipulate the club face than it is to the swing path which is why it takes people so long to fix whatever problem they naturally have a slice or a hook. If swing paths were so inconsistent you'd see people hooking on one tee, slicing their second shot, and pushing their putts or something like that.

Just going to say that usually someone's source doesn't like to be disclosed because what happens is they don't stay a source after that.

The people who think golf is easy are those who have never picked up a club.

This +1. Sir Ryan, I'm apologize if I came off too harsh, but the fact of the matter is you think I'm spending time out of my day to come down to you when I see 3 more posts of yours still talking about my post. Who's spending their time as a "keyboard warrior" now? And just so I can be clear and concise about what I'm talking about. Here: I made someone out there spend their time actually trying to bring me down, they probably could've done something better with their time. Here: Guys, it seems it has got a little out of hand here. What I wanted to know is if my lag needed work, or not, and if not, then I would've kindly asked for tips to help better achieve lag. If it looked like I was coming here for attention, then sorry, that was not the intention. But from the looks of it, some of you would rather try to degrade a user and act like an incompetent a**-hat here than not say anything remotely helpful at all. It's called a gentleman's sport for a reason fellas, it obviously looks like there's people out there who still don't realize that. And, it sure looks like some of you should try getting off your high horse sometime, and maybe try to learn to read thread titles a little better. You posted one in which you quoted me right after this post, you could had just quoted me in this one. The point is you could had easily posted a video of your swing and then asked about lag that way. I would have had no problems with doing it that way. Yet, instead you showed one picture of a part of the swing that we can't really tell if that lag is doing anything. Hell I could look like that if I wanted to, but does that mean I'm going to hit the ball well? Not even close. You came off as an "attention •••••" when you started doing this. Here is an example: Quote Originally Posted by Phil McGlenno View Post You're a 9.9. What good is great lag if you hit the ball fat, thin, and slice it? You respond back with: actually im not a 9.9, i originally put 99 and i guess you can no longer put it to 99 and they switched it to 9.9. too lazy to switch. but that is besides the point because my original post was seeking feedback on my lag, not my handicap. thank you Another example: man people make such a big deal about lag. Just hit the ball in the center of the clubface 4/5 times... then get the ball in the hole. the scorecard doesnt say how you make birdie or par... it just says birdie or par. I haven't played a player with beautiful lag that I haven't beaten to shreds with my somewhat simple, yet highly functional, golf swing. Sure I don't hit it shit that lovely elevator ball flight all the time, but the object of the game is to get the ball in the hole... not make it fly pretty in the air. spend the time you are spending taking pictures of your lag on the putting green... then enjoy giving the beautiful swingers an ass beating, a la walter hagen. just my two cents. Respond With: cool story man, but ive already understood that concept all along. i made it a personal goal to work on lag for a certain ball flight/distance, it's just what i wanted. i'm 17, it's not like i spent years working on lag. more like a a week or so. of course those other elements of the game highly contribute to scoring, lag is just something, once again, i wanted to implement in my swing. If you really really wanted honest advice, feedback, and help you would had posted a video of a swing. Nope you just wanted to show people how cool your swing can look when you take a picture of it with a camera with a high rate of FPS and when people weren't saying how kick ass and dank you looked you got pissed. So I ask kindly, go back to your super cool bra friends, while you drink some Smirnoff Ice's and play Bro's Icing Bros because this forum is for helping, learning and teaching, not telling some jerkoff high schooler how sweet his lag looks.

Have you honestly read any of this thread? I believe if you did you'd understand where I'm coming from. By the way, know any other topics I can post no help in I want to be as cool as you. It looks like fun.
-
Honestly, you only posted this topic to be an "attention •••••." You know the picture looks good so you want people to compliment you. When someone says it doesn't really matter you respond back with short quips about you only asked about lag and nothing else. Honestly, I'm fairly certain a lot of golf swings will look like that with a good camera and a halfway decent swing. The real question is it maintained at impact - do your hands lead? Odds are probably not because you are one of those "look at me" people who need attention on internet forums to get through the day.

I go, well just graduated from Michigan State University. We have the #1 Turf Management program in the nation. I have a few friends that are all Turf Mang. majors and they love what they get to do. MSU is known around the world for our grass (no pun intended). If you are serious about it I'd suggest researching our program.

^ This. There is nothing "best" when it comes to golf. It is all about who gets what sort of confidence out of his gear and also how much they want to spend on there gear. I get confidence out of my Nike equipment so that's why I went with it.

Another nod for Nike Pro Combo Forged =).

New to Golf...How much to spend?
MSUGolfer replied to HelRaza's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Buy clubs that you feel comfortable with and fit your game. Really no one can tell you how much to spend other than yourself. -
The best way to play 100 yards and in for me is to just swing smooth and swing normally. If I try to worry about the distance too much and don't trust myself it is for sure going to be bladed, shanked, etc.

Those clubs are sexy.. Hopefully it'll lead to many birdies =).

I'd be interested in what you have to say about the driver if you go hit it. I've also noticed them falling in price.

How many wedges are in your bag?
MSUGolfer replied to ilovesandwiches's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Three wedges - 52 Gap, 56 Sand, and 60 Lob. I love each club and use them all around the green depending on what I want to do. -
Love my dymo off the tee and off the deck. Thing just goes straight for miles.
-
Srixon Z-Star (Kinda Pricey maybe the Trispeeds?) Nike One Tour or Tour D (Just dropped there prices to 25 bucks a dozen) Bridgestone e7+ (Think those are the ones with mid trajectory) Those are three off the top off my head. I just started hitting the Nike Tours and really am enjoying them around the green and for the price you can't really beat it.

Srixon Z-Star or Srixon Z-StarX depending on your swing speed. Ball spins great, little bit shorter off the tee, but is very soft off the putter face.

Best Clubs for a bogey golfer trying to get to a 5
MSUGolfer replied to ZepZe7en's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Think I'm gonna start with telling you to just go to your local golf shop and start hitting irons and obviously other clubs. I think that what most people are going to suggest you do. Obviously everyone has their favorite golf clubs and golf brand so those will probably be recommended to you first. Just a few irons I could think of off the top of my head. Callaway X-22 Ping G15 TaylorMade Burners TaylorMade R7s Your best bet again is to just head to a golf shop, explain your situation, and they should be able to get you demoing clubs pretty quick. -
Hot List 2010 Golf Balls
MSUGolfer replied to Titleist_ProV1x's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I picked up a dozen Srixon Z Star Golf Balls in Tour Yellow this past weekend and am in love. I don't think I'm going to play a different ball all season. The ball feels so good around the green and on it. It just melts off the putter face and the yellowish green color just looks cool in my opinion and sets me apart from everyone else =). -
Nike Dymo SQ 3 wood R or S shaft?
MSUGolfer replied to Ash1974's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have a Nike Sumo Driver that I hardly ever pull cause the shaft feels like a wet noodle in my hand at regular flex... Now I do have a Nike Dymo fairway wood- that I pull on every tee shot (also my favorite club in the bag) has a wider and heavier shaft. My suggestion as 14 mentioned above is to go hit the 3 wood and see which shaft feels better. -
chrome polish on irons and wedges?
MSUGolfer replied to kevinbomb123's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
You really love making threads about your Nike clubs don't you. -
Honestly, if he wants to spend the money on blades let him. He is not "hurting" you. He spends the same amount on green fees as you, the same amount on range buckets as you, stop giving a shit about what he's playing and focus on your own swing. He's paid for the time on the course and if he wants to spend that time swinging with blades, that's his choice. The way people get their panties in a bunch on this website with the constant GI v. Blade debate is seriously ridiculous.
