  3. I have 9 courses within a 30 min drive of home that range in price from $25 to $40.
  4. Putting, short game, ball striking. But I think the biggest thing that separates the pros from the rest of the good/great players is the mental ability to be able to hit the shot they want with 500 people down each side of the fairway, another 1000 people around the green, and a camera crew standing 30 ft behind them broadcasting their shot all over the world. Not to mention the nerves it takes to stand over a putt that could move you up or down the leader board several places.
  5. I play 27 more often than not. 99% of the time we play during the week so most of the time the course is not too busy. Most courses give a big discount for a 9 hole replay also. Most of the time we will do something different on the last nine just to mix it up a little. We will play irons only, odd numbered clubs only, or do teams and play foursomes or 4 ball. Drink plenty of water.
  6. Someone waiting from 300 yds out on a par 5 for the green to clear when they just hit a 200 yd drive. Slow groups not letting faster groups play through.
  7. Depends on what I am doing at the time and what I am eating with it. My favorites are Yuengling, Miller Lite, Dos Equis, Sam Adam's Summer Ale, Shock Top End of the World Midnight Wheat. Also like a couple of local micro brews, Smoky Mountain Cherokee Red Ale, and Depot Street Loose Caboose Lager.
  8. I have ordered from them twice, and had no problems at all either time. Good prices and fast shipping. I will probably order from them again when I need new grips.
  9. Thanks for the suggestions. Will check out the ones mentioned and make some t times at a couple of them.
  10. I am going on a family trip to MB in April, and am looking for some suggestions. Will probably only get to play a couple of days while there and am looking for courses in the North Myrtle, Cherry Grove, Little River, Calabash areas. It will be myself and my dad playing and looking for courses that are nice, but not too expensive. It has been several years since I played at Myrtle and the last time I played Heather Glen and Possum Trot. They were OK, but looking for something different. Thanks for any suggestions.

  13. Thanks for the info. Didnt think about the lighter weight and it didnt feel like I was swinging them that much faster, but maybe I was.
  14. Went to a local demo day today and hit several new irons. Tried the Adams Black CB2's and loved them. The feel is great and I was hitting them very good. The Adams rep put me through a fitting and recommended 1* flat and the KBS Tour 90 shafts in stiff flex. I have always played reg flex in my irons, currently have Titleist 775's with the NS Pro 100's (Nipppon shaft) in reg flex and also Titleist AP2's with Project X 5.0's. Will be trading the AP2's in on the CB2's. When I questioned him about the stiff flex, he said that because the KBS are so much lighter I can hit the stiffs. Anyone ever heard of this? I will say that I hit the stiff clubs great, ball flight looked good, distances were as good if not a little longer, and dispersion was good. Just a little apprehensive about ordering clubs with stiff shafts after playing reg for so long.
  15. I replaced my 3 and 4 irons with hybrids. The hybrids are so much easier to hit, they fly high and land soft. They are great for long approach shots, par 3's, laying up on par 5's, heck I even use them for bump and run shots around the green.
  16. Thanks for the info. Will check out the course mentioned.
  17. I liked Tobacco Road. Deffinately different. Not a course I would want to play all the time, but it is a fun course. A shot makers course for sure.
  18. I am looking for some suggestions on courses in the Pinehurst area. We have played there the past two years and are planning a trip for this summer. Courses we have played in the past are: Legacy, The Pit, Tobacco Road, Southern Pines, Mid Pines, and Pine needles. What are some other nice courses that are not too expensive? All of the Pinehurst courses are out of our budget. Thanks for any information.
  19. Not sure about courses in Knoxville, but Dandridge CC and Patriot Hills in Dandridge are nice public courses, and are about 25 min or so from Knox. Millstone in Morristown is also a nice public course and is about 35 min or so from Knox.
  20. If at all possible try to find a fitter who has an outdoor range. IMO it is so much better to be able to watch the actual ball flight and distances and hit off of real grass. Indoor launch monitors do work good IF the fitter knows how to read it. So easy now to buy a monitor and call yourself a fitter without really knowing how to operate and read it properly.
  21. I have a 909 d2 and love it. The best feel and sound of any driver I have ever hit. Whatever you go with, make sure to get fit, I bought mine at a demo day this spring and while there, I hit the 909 d2 head on 4 different shafts, I couldnt believe the difference in the ball flight between the shafts.
  22. Great advice! Get the clubs adjusted to your swing, not to what they should be based on measurements. When I had my new set fitted this spring, I must have hit well over 100 balls. I hit every iron and he adjusted each one based on the ball flight. Also make sure your fitter checks the clubs against factory specs before he starts. My new set came in with several of the lofts and lies off from factory specs. If he would have just started bending them a degree or so flat they would not have been anywhere close to being right.

I have 6 munis close by that range from $28 to $40 for 18 w/cart.
  24. The 5 shots on the 138 yd par 3 after you just birdied the hole before.
  25. I purchased new irons this spring with the new grooves. Honestly, I cant tell that much difference between them and my old irons. I have had a few fliers out of the rough, but is it the new grooves, or poor ball striking? As far as the wedges go, most pros replace their wedges 2 or 3 times a season and are always playing wedges with sharp new grooves. The vast majority of amateurs are using wedges that have worn grooves, and would probably have more spin with a new wedge with "V" grooves than a worn wedge with "U" grooves.
