  1. Odd really I thought tiger had never won a major when coming from behind even by as much as 1 shot !
  2. I assume your face will be blurred as a result of the distorting lensing effect created by the disruption to spacetime that a swing as powerful as yours would create.
  3. if the usga wants another west coast public course on which to play the us open what about spyglass........which I thought was a much better course than Pebble
  4. Leek I played red sky ranch the week before last lovely course have played it and if so how does cc of the rockies compare
  5. There will never be another Bobby Jones that is for certain , greatest player of all time imho and it aint even close.
  6. Why not just have the courtesy to go and say " we are not stopping is it ok to play through" job done .
  7. To suggest this has this become a tradition is just crass . To suggest it brings excitment to golf is just plain stupid , the finish of this years Open was rather exciting despite the absence of some moron shouting get in the hole at every tee shot. The best player of all time is not yet Tiger woods Nicklaus has more major wins , second places and third places , byron nelson has won more consecutive tournaments and Bobby Jones has a vastly superior winning percentage .
  8. Could somebody explain to me why when Tiger Woods is teeing off on a 400yrd par 4 using a 2 iron some memebrs of the crowd shout "get in the hole "
  9. I think we are all agreed on that , I was more enquiring as to the rather lassez faire acceptance of this given the price . in the uk it would simply not be tolerated the hold up was caused by the course mangement rather than by the players I feel.
  10. I played at Pebble Beach last week and would like to ask a question of our American cousins. It cost $450 for a round and by the 6th hole we had to wait at the tee for the group in front to tee off , thereafter we waited a lot. Now I was playing with three nice American chaps I had not met before and asked then why they were prepared to tolerate this having paid $450 since it was clearly caused by too many groups being allowed on the course with an insufficient gap on the first tee . They just shrugged and seemed prepared to accept this , I have played most of the great championship courses in the UK and have never seen this situation , I did explain this to the proshop afterwards but they seemed to think it was strange that I should object , what are your thougts on this please. Incidentally whilst I thought pebble was spectacular in its vistas I much preferred Spyglass. I also played the olympic in San fran which was great and I joined the saturday morning roll up at the Monteray Peninsular Country Club and had a fantastic time with a terriffic group of guys on an outstanding golf course.
  11. didn't monty win in Ireland two weeks ago ?
  12. If that's your yardstick mate I say go and look at the record of Robert Tyre Jones junior and weep
  13. playing off 20 a 9.5deg driver is almost cetainly not enough loft and a stiff shaft will only exacerbate the problems that lack of loft will generate. Thats a tour setup and with respect unless you currently have a short game like stevie wonder will amost certainly not help your scores IMHO.
  14. The Buckinghamshire ( my home course in the UK) Pinheiros Altos ( my home course in Portugal ) Ballybunnion Waterville Old Head Ballyliffin Old Ballyliffin Glashedy Royal Portrush Gleneagles Queens Gleneagles Kings St Georges Hill Sunningdale Old The Grove Hanbury Manor Still to come next month Olympic san fran , Pebble Beach , Spyglass and Monteray country club . Later on in year Muirfield.
  15. You have to feel sorry for this girl on one level I mean who amongst us would enjoy the almost ritual humiliation she has been put through for the last 12 months . That girls father has a lot to answer for and if he is not very careful when she gets a little older not only will she have grown to hate golf which would be a great shame .She may well have grown to hate him as well and all the money Nike can muster will not compensate for that schism.
  16. I think you should go and learn some manners before you go back out on a golf course , if you were my son I would be ashamed by your antics . Incidentally you dont sound like you could blow the skin off a rice pudding so I would also suggest you learn to control your temper before you get hurt.
  17. Previously I have listed my favourite course as Turnberry however played in Ireland this year and have a revised opinion : Old Head the most spectacular course on earth I would wager Waterville an almost spiritual golfing experience Ballybunnion 12 of the best links holes anywhere but this last weekend played Ballyliffin which was good and Royal Portrush that was simply breathtaking in it's magnificence. Two of us agreed Portrush was better than Turnberry so I have a new number 1.
  18. As discussed before quite why one would want to play the K club when one could play Portmarnock , County Louth , The European Club or the Island which are all close to the K club is beyond me .
  19. It really ticks me off that in the UK and Ireland we provide an accomodation at our finest courses for visiting golfers in all but 3 cases Loch Lomond , The Wisley and Queenwood. So every summer all our great championship courses are playable to American visitors from Royal Dormoch down to Royal St Georges and across to Ballybunnion. The following are the top 10 courses listed in the US Pine valley Augusta National Cypree Point Shinnecock Hills Pebble Beach Oakmont Merion Sand Hills National Golf links of America Seminole Only one of these courses is playable by myself as a visitor and I must say I find this an absolute disgrace and a situation you as americans should be far from happy with . As a further note of interest of the 3 courses that visitors are not welcomed at in the UK at least two are owned by Americans.
  20. To denigrate in some way the acheivment of Bobby Jones because he played against amateurs shows a lack of understanding of the history of this great game . In the era that he played the majority of the best players were amateurs which is why at that time the British and US amateurs were held to be majors . It is interesting that Walter Hagen , Gene sarazan and Ben Hogan never won a major that Jones played in and never manged to beat Jones on more than one occassion each in official competition. Now those are three of the greatest pro's of all time.
  21. laconic517 : Two points to make in reply 1: Old Head is worth every penny , its not the sort of course that one would play all the time although membership is not too bad in fact. This is without any question on of if not the most spectacular courses in the world. 2: Why would you come all the way to Ireland and play a rather uninspired us style parkland course ? you could have played Portmarnock or The European club, links golf is just so much better imho.
  22. It looks to me as though average total driving distance on the PGA tour is around 285 yds so all you guys that think you carry the ball that far get off your pc's , get practising your short game and get to Q school.
  23. PBC golfer I tend to agree with you about his mass produced putters a little emperors new cloths I cant help feeling . Iacas have you tried Whitlam or Yes putters both of which I feel are of superior design and craftsmanship imho.
  24. Well I must admit I had the best round of our trip we played Ballybunnion , Waterville and Old Head and I shot 30 points , 32 points and 34 points respectively and at old head it blowed and rained . I have to say I had a caddy who was fantastic though and a great help . He also muttered the now immortal words to one of my partners who had gone through the back of a par three and asked how it would be " sir you're proper f***ed "
  25. you want some eye candy golf holes I have just come back from old head and 16 of 18 holes are eye candy check it out http://oldhead.com/
