  1. I agree the hats at golf clubs are GARBAGE!!!! I have a collection of the fitted Titleist hats because they fit perfectly.... I have to worry about anyone that would wear a Gators anything???? Do you wear matching jean shorts? Is this really the conversation we have going on??????????? We should file this one under Who Gives a Flip!
  2. Do you know how you can spot a high handicapper post? If they write that the only difference between their mid range ball and a ProV1 is price. It’s like saying the only difference in a Corvette and Ferrari or Lamborghini is price… ridiculous!!!!! I might be a little biased…but the ProV1 is the end all be all. I have hit just about all the tour level balls and I always come back to the ProV1. I tested several versions of the Titleist ProV1 prototypes over the last year and the new 2011 version is MONEY!!! I would say if I was forced to play something else, it would probably be a Penta. BTW a great "cheap" ball is the Pinnacle Dimesion (Blue Box) $14 a dozen. It is my back yard range ball.
  3. Was it well within the rules...yes! Was it kinda of a sketchy call...yes! But to call the offical gutless or anything other than honorable is kinda being a d@#k . It is not on the offical to make a call on the players swing path, he is just there to make sure that the play is within the rules of golf which it was, he doesnt get to impose his judgement. BTW, the ball was not a foot behind the sprinkler...it was more like 6 inches. I think the concern was more about the lip of the grass catching part of the club, not to mention it was sitting in a slight depression. I can understand the drop, however, I dont understand letting him drop in the fairway. Is that not improving one's lie? if you are in the rough, you should not be able to drop in the fairway... My two cents!
  4. I play Vokey 50, 54 and 58, with a low bounce. I switched about 6 years ago from the trusty rusty's and I would use nothing else. They will eat the cover off a ball though!
  5. I actually blaming the the individuals raising "today's youth" (Remember I am only 30). We are teaching them if the rules are too hard...change them. If you cant make a three foot putt, its not you that needs work, its the rules. 6" cup fine, then you will have people scoring in the 50's, then someone will suggest it be 12" wide...its a slippery slope. I think we need to come to realization that some of us will not be a 5, 10 or even a 20 handicap and just be ok with that. Why must we change the rules to accomidate those that can't? I will never be able to dunk a basketball, its not the fact that I'm 6'4" and 275lbs, its that the rim is too darn high. Let change the rules....9 foot basket so we can dunk too! We need to realize that just because "we put our mind to it" does not mean we can accomplish anything...plain and simple! My brother with special needs can not be president, no matter how hard he tries...is it fair that someone can play golf better than you or I, who knows, but it is just the way it is!
  6. I think golf is just another victim of the world…. A “gentleman’s” game…Have you talked to a teenager today? I am only 30, and I am dumbfounded at what I see on a daily basis. My business brings me in contact with teens and twenty-something’s quite often. The days of common courtesy are dead! They are appalled that you would ask them not to call your patron dude or hey you…they feel it violates their “rights” if you ask them to work without a bonus; their salary alone is not enough. We have a generation that feels entitled to do whatever it is that makes them happy, regardless of whom impacts as long as they are satisfied. Then there are the people raising these entitled brats. The “do your best” parents; the sanitizer carrying, helmet wearing, you can do anything you put your mind too crowd. I understand our kids are our most prized treasure…but let them fall down and eat some dirt every once in a while. Do you know there is a movement to remove score for children’s athletics? I mean if you never learn that it sucks to lose, what is going to make you strive and work hard to win? You must learn to lose, before you can win. We now have a generation of sissified individuals that want a ribbon for showing up. To quote the Movie “Meet the Fockers”…”I didn’t know they even made a 9 th place ribbon…” I’m fortunate enough to place a course fairly local to my home, where the owner and staff are not afraid to ask someone to speed up, or offer them a rain check for another less busy day. I have become spoiled with 4 hour rounds of golf.
  7. The rhythmic back forth from walking can damage the graphite shafts and putter just as much as riding in a cart. I walked 5-6 rounds for a week for 8 years for juniors, high school, college and competitive amateur golf. I have several graphite shafts with distinct wear marks are them all from walking.
  8. Another point is that head covers are not jut about protecting the head, most protect the shaft from knicks and dings that may affect its performance and potentially lead to breakage.
  9. My point was not about how many Sammy or Hogan had.....but more that we will be hard pressed with the current talent to see 7 or 8, let alone 12 or 18 wins in a season again. So when we ask about someone winning more when they are tied fir wins on the tour, seems a little silly to me.
  10. I think golf fans are "Tiger-ized". They don’t think its a good year unless you win 7 tournaments, and two majors. I think we all were witnesses to a once in a generation stretch off domination in our sport. Only to be rivaled by Byron Nelson's 11 consecutive tournaments in a season or Bobby Jones Stretch of Majors. Unfortunately we have all had to come back to Earth, where 3 or 4 tournament wins is a Player of the Year. Even as recent as the last 5 years the game has exploded globally and the disparity among the best and #125 is smaller and smaller. For the quote of a previous poster, that Bubba is not a world class player, I believe he is the #10th best golfer in the world....Is that world-class enough?????
  11. Here is a test...go to a course you have never seen, play from the tips and shoot 3 or 4 over par and you might have a chance at a division 2 or 3 school. I think it would be a bit unrealistic to consider yourself ready for programs like UCLA, USC, Stanford, etc. I think it might be a bit overly optimistic to even think about smaller schools like San Diego St, Pepperdine, etc. California is a hot bed for golf talent especially Southern Cali. You might want to look out of state? If you want to know what it takes call the coaches, get to know them see what they are looking for. Find out where their home course is and go watch them. Next play in some junior tournaments....AJGA is a great judge; there is typically some excellent future college talent in those programs. I was a walk on at a major Division I program. I had to shoot 10 rounds from the tips and average 2 under par, Just to be considered. Once you make the team, you must compete with the other members of the team to make the travelling squad because only 5 guys usually travel to a tournament. Even as a recruited player, do not expect a scholarship. Even the best players receive about 50-60% scholarship, this has been exacerbated by Title 9. So be prepared to pay for your own schooling, and equipment (minus a golf bag and some uniforms). With that being said, it was one of the greatest experiences of my life, rooming traveling and playing with those guys. I built friendships with those guys that will last a lifetime. My brother is #1 player on a decent division II program and he is a +4-5 right now. He Shot 64 in his US Open qualifier, just to give you some sort of some division II perspective. With all that being said...work hard, develop your game and learn to minimize you mistakes and where to score and you could make it. Look into the PING college web site, it answers a lot of questions and it helps you get your name and stats out to the golf coaches. Here is the website http://www.collegegolf.com/collegegolf/
  12. Again I think it is a funny dispute.... Its like racing and fighting for a close parking spot to go in the gym and work out......
  13. First off...the Scotty head covers are collector items, just like baseball cards, stamps, coins, cars etc. Their inflated value is based on the limited numbers and such, to that point they are only worth what some one will pay. I use a cover on my Scotty; it is the Velcro type with my college golf logo. It is the same company that manufactures the Scotty Head covers. I use it because the alloys are soft and i do not want to damage the face or the top line. As for the hassle argument...is that not a bit silly? After all isn’t golf a SPORT???? That's like Payton Manning refusing to use hand signals because it is a hassle to raise his arms!!!! Come on now...
  14. I think Callaway Irons are great.....their woods are a whole other story. They have had issues with cracks or seperation between composite materials for years. Glue just doesnt hold up to extreme enviroments and pressures like a weld.
  15. I think they should leave the Master's and Augusta National to it self, I dont want to cheapin the tournament. I know the Kraft / Nabisco is aimed at that, maybe they need to goto a storied course. Maybe like Pine Valley????
  16. He has the same swing he has had since childhood. Retooling a swing never works (Look at Woods). The most successful coaches (specifically Harmon) takes the building blocks of the natural swing and makes it do what it needs to be successful. By the way in the last year no one in the World's "Top Ten" has won more on the PGA -Westwood - 0 -Kaymer - 1 -Donald - 2 -Mickelson - 1 -McDowell - 2 -McIlroy - 1 -Woods - 0 -Carey - 0 -Stricker - 1 -Watson - 3 He is a great guy, which things are really paying off for. He has been insanely generous with his success and done the right thing! Yes he is 33, but he is a late comer and is coming into his own! I don't see why so many 5 - 20 handicaps think they know better tan he?
  17. Played TPC Canyons and Bear's Best last week. Both in tip-top shape, about $165 a round, but awsome courses.
  18. Again....this is someone making a judgement on hear say and mis-information. They did not remove Fowler's hat, they asked him to wear his hat according to their dress code. Based on my 20+ years off attendance of the tournament and its functions, the members of security have ALWAYS been kind and respectful to me and all members of my party. silly!
  19. BTW they have a no backwards hat policy... In fact they have a no hats in the clubhouse rule. I think during tournament week they lit that slide a little, especially around the locker room facilities. But Once fowler was about to "represent" the club and the tournament to the media, they were sure to enforce the rules. Just like they spoke to Tiger on several occasions about the language on the course and it was just a public. Also, Mr. Townsend asked him to turn it around, he did not touch him. They are sticklers for tradition, but you also must understand that most of the members are almost 80 and they come from a different time. If you want to have the privilege of playing in their tournament then you must abide by their rules...simple as that. Yes the club makes money of the tournament, in fact they make ALOT of money of the tournament. However the members don’t get one dime out of it. And the video game someone referred to, 100% of the revenue from that game has gone to the first tee and several other junior golf programs. As far as the racial makeup of the membership that someone referred to....there are African American members, there are Jewish members. There are not any ladies, but it is a Men's club, and therefore they don’t admit women to the membership. Just as though it were the Junior League of Augusta or the Augusta Women’s Club... I think there are too many people that are jealous and bitter about the haves....they must always knock them at any chance they get.
  20. David Feherty....all the way, and Nantz a second. Miller and Venturi are douche bags!
  21. Hell, if money was of no consequence...I would buy Titleist...not the clubs, but the company and have them forge as many clubs as I desired!
  22. I buy 5 or 6 shirts every year, and I still have alot of the less expensive polos, but I agree the Jones Collection sshirts are much better quality ($150per). Its funny to watch all the folks at the free phone banks taking orders. The lady in front of me last year spent $44,000 on merchandise! That is correct not a typo $44,000!!!!
  23. It may not make you dumb....but it has major effect on the brain such as a greater risk for Schizophrenia or Psychosis. Prolonged use can have impacts on the areas of the brain such as the hippocampus and amygdala, this controls memory, emotion, fear and aggression. I would be happy to provide you the links to the studies performed by the Melbourne Neuropsychiatry Centre?
  24. by the way...Nicotine is not added to tabacco, it is naturally occuring in tabacco. As for weed, here is a little info on some current research on the effects of weed. As in every statement, I preface it by saying I am for its legalization. The following where taken from a Science Journal last year. It is the result of a study from a DNA and Cancer causing effects of weed. "... Cannabis smoke contains 400 compounds including 60 cannabinoids. However, because of its lower combustibility it contains 50% more carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons including naphthalene, benzanthracene, and benzopyrene, than tobacco smoke " Dr. Raj Singh Reasearchers go on to add "...ability of cannabis smoke to damage DNA has significant human health implications especially as users tend to inhale more deeply than cigarette smokers, which increases respiratory burden. "The smoking of 3-4 cannabis cigarettes a day is associated with the same degree of damage to bronchial mucus membranes as 20 or more tobacco cigarettes a day" The conclusion of the major study said "The data obtained from this study suggesting the DNA damaging potential of cannabis smoke highlight the need for stringent regulation of the consumption of cannabis cigarettes, thus limiting the development of adverse health effects such as cancer"
  25. BTW you know they randomly drug test on the PGA tour and yes they even hit up the stars. So I doubt the validity of this string of statements.
