I don't understand why people get so upset with other people when they don't keep an honest score during a friendly round. It's not affecting your game at all, at least it shouldn't be; if you let something like that effect the way you play, you need a stronger mental game. So who cares how they score themselves? I've never counted the strokes my playing partners made during a round - just write down whatever they tell me. If they get a better score than me, whatever. I know how well I played, and that's all that matters to me. Obviously if it's a game for money or in a tournament it's a different story entirely.

You're not a short hitter, I'm a short hitter. 3-Wood: 160-180 (200 if lucky) 5-Iron: 150 6-Iron 130-140 and so on... I don't hit my driver because it doesn't go as far as my 3-wood due to the slice I always get off my driver. I think I might have too much driver for me to handle at this point.

I'll take a practice swing before every shot. If I'm on the fairway, I'll take a practice swing to make sure I have the feel down for my shot. Once I have it, I step up and hit it. When I first started playing, it would take me about three practice swings to get the feel down. Now I can do it in one or two. When I'm using a wedge, I'll take two or three quick practice swings to get the weight down that I want to hit it at. I'll take a few before each putt to get the weight too.

Basically, ride your bike there. That's the best advice you're going to get from this thread or from anyone else.

I will go and hit up the putting range and chipping area first, and practice my putting and chipping until I get bored. Then I'll head over to the range and practice whatever club I feel needs some work. I'll then head back to the putting and chipping area and practice that until I get bored again. In total, I'm usually there for a couple of hours. If the course is open after that I'll play a round and try to get in as many holes as I can before it's too dark to play. I usually end up having to run the last three holes so I can finish. I also go to the range on my lunch hour and hit a large bucket. I've just been hitting balls one after another trying to get my feel down, but I think I'll pick up a small bucket next time and really focus on each ball I hit.

Totally honest reply; my 3-wood off a fairway goes about 150-175. Off a tee, I can get it about 160-180.

I can usually hit it 300-340 from the fairway with my 3-wood. If the conditions are perfect it turns into about 360.

This happened to my brother-in-law too while were playing with my mother's boyfriend - Bob. Bob's cell phone went off while my brother-in-law was in his backswing. His shot subsequently landed in the lake. I told him to just take another shot, and joked that we should add a penalty stroke to Bob for not having his cell phone on vibrate during a round.

I don't carry a gun. I've never even seen a gun in person, other than in a store. I would never play at a course where I felt it was necessary to have protection with me. That just takes the fun out of the game.

It sounds to me like your wife is more upset about golf, and is just using the first day of school as a tipping point. Find out if she's upset about the amount you're golfing or if the first day of school is really her reason for being upset.

Going back to this for a minute. You hit a provisional that is closer than your partner's shot. You go up to play your provisional because you don't want to find the first one you hit, but your partner goes off to look for it. Are you allowed to play your provisional to make the ball in play, even though your partner's ball is further away from the hole? I always thought that the person who was furthest away from the hole had to play their shot first.

Haha! I've done that one too. I played amost an entire round thinking that the red marker was 50 and the white was 100. This was when I first started playing and I was by myself so there wasn't anyone to correct me. I just kept thinking "Man, my short irons are WEAK!"

How did you go about sneaking on? Did you have to jump a fence or something, or did you just walk onto the 15th?
-
I used to cheat a lot when I first started. I think pretty much everyone does. Let's face it, if it's your first or second round, golf isn't very fun to play strictly by the rules.

I've done the 6/9 iron mix up a few times, but I always notice it at address.

I saw a fellow putt like that at the practice green once, but he stood more upright and held the end of the grip against his body almost like a belly putter. Except he did it because he only had one hand. Dude was still a decent putter.

Let's say a golfer could not demo irons, what to choose?

1. 20 and up - Nickent 4DX Pro 2. 15 - Cleveland CG7 Black Pearl 3. 10 - Adams Pro Black CB-1 4. 5 and under - Adams Idea Pro Black MB Basically, I just picked what I think looks coolest of the higher end range of clubs. I use the Nickent 4DX Pros and love them, so that's why I chose it for the 20 and up handicap, even though they might be too much club for that group. -
Rockbottomgolf has the Adams Tom Watson wedge set on sale right now. http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/adams-...wedge-set.html

Three New Wedges (Your Favorites and Why)

I use Nickent Arc wedges. A 52, 54, and 60. I found the 54 on sale for $25 while I was looking for a 56so that's why I bought it. Still looking for a 56, but haven't found one yet. I like them. They look good at address, and feel nice around the green. -
A friend and I were talking about this before, and one of the greatest enjoyments we get from the game is the sound. Two that come to mind are the ping of my 3 wood hitting the ball off the tee, and another one is the sound of the ball going into the cup. I love those sounds.

I've played Callaway HX Bite, Top-Flight 5000XL, and Wilson Soft-Core balls. I couldn't tell the difference between them, but this is my first year of golfing. I would prefer a ball with a softer feel on the greens, but I don't want to spend a whole lot of money on them right now. I prefer playing the Wilson balls because they're under $0.75 a ball right now. I have a ton of lost and found balls that are better quality, but I don't like using them because I hate being the guy that doesn't know what ball he is using when asked. But when I do get better, I would like to stick with Callaway simply because I like the way the hexagon dimples look.

Right now, I don't hit my driver at all during a round. I tee off with my 3 wood on any hole that's not a par 3. I can hit my 3 wood a lot smoother and a lot straighter than my driver. I still practice my driver at the range all the time, but I'm just not getting the hang of it yet where I feel comfortable hitting it during a round. I love my 3 wood though.

I have a Canon G11 that I bought for photography, but have used it to record my swing. You don't need a tripod for the camera. Like another member posted, just buy a Gorillapod and attach it to your golf bag.

I always try to warm up on the range before a round. To me it makes a huge difference. I also try to warm up with some putting to so I can get the feel down. Playing a couse cold is really difficult for me.
