Plastic or Wood Tees? Something Else?
PutterHead replied to PutterHead's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Arbitrage, i received some Velocitees for Xmas and thought they were a novelty thing! They are put in at a slant, away from the club, so the driver goes up the tee to the ball! How did u like them? I can't see how u can get a consistent height all the time? I got my Rockettees that i ordered in my original post, but haven't tried them yet (a little thing called Winter got in the way) but they seem like they are very cool. Hollow plastic, so they bend and don't come out of the ground, with a coloured band around the bottom for a consistent tee height. In the spring I'll post how they work... -
I am not a supporter or non supporter. She is obviously a great golfer for her age, but will she achieve the kind of stardom she looks like she deserves on the path she is being led on. I personally don't think so. Win @ your level first before biting off more than u can chew...She is getting criticised for bad decisions she (or someone else) has made. Trying to make the cut on the PGA, now the Ryder Cup thing. She looks like she is a spoiled brat who seems to think she can just wake up one morning and be a female Tiger. If Anika or Lorena were to have said that, most (guys) would still probably not agree with it, but they wouldn't be laughing! Just my 2 cents, but i think she is being badly managed.

I like the quiet, silent types. Furyk (what u can accomplish with a swing like THAT!), Singh (if only he could putt), & Sean O'Hair (with what he went through with his Dad, he just quietly goes out there and Gits 'er Done)...but on the other hand, I have a soft spot for Daly as well. I'm currently reading his book.

To think things over. Better course management, I guess. Think about my shots, not just slam it as far as i can with the biggest club first & deal with what's left over @ the end. Smarter golf will drop my handicap quite a bit...

I'm trying to hang in there!!! I find I'm like a squirrel storing nuts for Winter, xcept I'm buying golf stuff that I can't use yet!... Canada rules...

HD rules... I find i only watch the 10 or so stations i have in HD over the 200 of the other ones, xcept the Golf Channel of course! Most sports & Discovery/Nat Geo channel type stuff are the absolute best. Golf is georgeous, football is unbelievable, as is Nascar. Had it for about 3 years now on a Sammy 46" DLP.

Great forum. We can only golf from May to the end of September as a rule of thumb, and it's killing me!!!!!!! You can only putt & chip point 3 balls in the basement for so long. Next week I'm joining a club for 8 half hour one on one lessons and unlimited indoor hitting 'till March 15. I'm just outside of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

What do you use with the big guns... I've tried lots of different kinds. Currently I have been using the Wedge Tees, but I have ordered some Rockettees, that haven't come yet.

Whats Under the Holiday Tree
PutterHead replied to tee2green's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I got a Cleveland Halo 3i 22° hybrid (I'll take out my G2 3HL) and some Intech Hot balls, which i think are illegal! -
Just bought a Cleveland Halo 3i 22° hybrid during a Boxing Day sale...haven't had a chance to hit it yet!

I play in a men's league here. It's a pretty cool links style Public course...the pics on the website don't do it justice. www.themeadowsgc.com

Just Starting Golf
PutterHead replied to Newbie Collection Agency's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Great advice... I can only "play" 5 months of the year because of winter, so to keep things going i hit off mats @ a local club. Eight 1/2 hr one on one lessons, unlimited range, & club storage from Dec.1 to March 31, all for $200. Also, as mentioned before, have fun. Last summer while playing in a men's league, i was paired with 2 of the best golfers in the league. Great guys, but i was so terrible it was stupid. I kept getting more frustrated, and things got worse. Easily my worst outing ever. I told them i was going back to the 19th to drown my sorrows because clearly things were not getting better. One of the guys said, "At some point, the Golf Gods will look down on you today, and you won't be able to get back on a course fast enough." I stayed, and on the last hole, a difficult par 5, i was sitting 18 ft. from the pin, looking @ a birdie. The two fellas stood on the green, and said, go ahead, make this. With them both standing there watching, i nailed it. The fella that told me about the Golf Gods, came over, put his arm around my shoulder, and said, "See, that was the Golf God. Nice putt, see you next week!" That's what's so great about this game. Anything can happen. -
Thanks Gas_Can... I had Vijay in parenthesis because the sales guy wasn't sure if VJ was part of the contract dumping. It looks like a bunch of things all happening at the same time are going against Cleveland. The HiBore reviews are all over the place from great to terrible, their wedges aren't even mentioned in most magazine reviews, so sales i'm assuming must be taking a bit of a kicking. I think the CG10's are great, and i almost bought a launcher when they were $500+. Well, at least I got a great deal on a Comp Launcher for my son's birthday in March.
-
Maybe i'm out of the loop here, but I was @ Golf Town and picked up a Launcher Comp for my son for $198 . The sales guy told me that their irons (not sure which ones) were also discounted $300, PLUS you get a free Hi-bore driver with them. He also said that the company that owns Cleveland (i've never heard of them, they apparently make lower end stuff) has also released 40+ tour staff (Vijay). He said VJ used the Hi-bore for a month & went back to the launcher. Interesting stuff, if true...

I agree. I play in a mens league & the practice facility is free before each round for members. At the beginning i used to go and hit a bucket of balls, full out, go do some pitching & chipping, then about an hour of putting. I was tired and golfing the #$*@s! Now, I loosen up, with a weighted club, hit a couple of balls, and practice my putting before each round. It actually relaxes me now, and i feel more relaxed & prepared on the first tee.

Have you ever used a training aid.... that worked?
PutterHead replied to ColinMB's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have, & still use the "weighted" club training device. I use it @ work all winter long during lunch. When i swing it @ a course prior to a round, my irons feel like a twig. I find it helps to aleviate the "death grip" and also loosen up the muscles used in the swing motion. -
Last year i bought a Bennington with the Quiet Organizer insert. I love this bag, and I get compliments on it all the time. It's big, but it's a cart bag. It fits on my Sun Mountain speed cart no problem. The "insert" circles the top of the bag with individual slots for specific irons. Shortest to longest, so your 3 iron etc. is always in the same place. 3 slots for drivers and 2 external tubes for a putter and i put my 60° wedge in the other one. It has enough storage and a large cooler pouch as well.

Best looking, feeling and playing driver thread
PutterHead replied to Clubswinger21's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Wow! Is this thread sponsored by the letter "T" . A couple of years ago i tried the Launcher (2nd pick), G2 (3rd pick), & didn't like Callaway BB, TM Rx5 (4th pick) & settled for the Cobra SZ460. I hit it more consistantly than the rest. Doesn't rank up there with looks, but i like to hit it. Next time i check out drivers i'll for sure be trying out the Titleist! -
Do I really Need a 3 wood?
PutterHead replied to BogeyGolfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have a driver, 3 wood & a 5 wood. I'm thinking of taking my Ping G2 3HL out and geting a hybrid 21°. My 3 iron is the thick soled high launch, so i'm going to see if the hybrid is easier to hit. I use my 3 wood quite often, both off the tee & on the fairway. -
I'm not sure if this belongs in this thread? Is this stuff a gimick? Sabona & Trion-X bracelets, Q-Ray pendants? Does anyone have any experience with any of these? They say tons of pros use them.
-
My wife got me a sub to Golf Magazine, and i buy Golf Illustrated. I like them both. I'll reread them often, sometimes just for the ads & reviews for equipment etc, and then for the tips.

Walking. Hands down! I have a Sun Mountain 3 wheel push cart that's awesome. The mens league i play in has the power cart price built in, so nobody walks (more time for beer that way) but walking is definately the way to go. You have time to relax while walking (also too much time to analyze) and really get to see the course much better, i think.

I'm looking @ possibly replacing my Ping 3HL iron with a hybrid. Has anyone used the Nike Slingshot 20°? There is good reviews about it. I will definately try before i buy. What else is decent. What about the Feel (Competitor, butterstick)?
