Roll with it. Your pro has a plan... see where it takes you. I worked with the same pro for over a year (Going at least once a month) before we got onto the driver. I used to want to break out the driver on every par 4. But he taught me to play to my strengths. My best distance for and approach shot it between 125 - 140, so I play from the tee for that distance. If I am playing a par 4 of around 350 I don’t hit driver (average 270ish) because it puts me inside my number. Plus I lose accuracy with the driver so I would hit hybrid and play smart. Don’t get me wrong though. Sometimes when I’m out with just the guys I will just try to rip the driver every time. But if I’m looking to score I will play for my yardages. It sounds like this is where your pro is going. I think he is building confidence in a few clubs, finding out your distance with those clubs and then playing to it. Also don’t forget that the driver swing is very different to you iron swing and maybe he wants you get comfortable with your irons before he starts messing with your swing for the driver. Believe me, it doesn’t matter how many times your pro tells you (and he will) "do this with the driver", it will creep into your iron swing as well. And that isn’t always good. I was taught that there are 4 areas to your game and they are all very separate: 1. Putting and short game 2. Iron play 3. Long game 4. The mental game When the time is right he will show you how to hit your driver (and there’s nothing wrong with it), but don’t worry about it. Hang in there, let the pro do his job, and have fun with the drop in your scores. Sorry for the long reply

Trion Z: For Real or For Looks?
BritBoy replied to Hogan Incarnate's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Ya but your troll is only working with your putter and wedges. My Trion:z is covering all the bases Seriously though I wear mine all the time.... does it make a difference? I dunno, I just like it. -
I can see the benefit of going to more than one pro. Each may have a different area of expertise, full swing, short game, putting etc. But I would recommend that you only work on one thing at a time. Golf is hard enough when you are working on one thing let alone two or three.

Cleveland CG12 Zip Wedges... Don't
BritBoy replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Erik, how did they perform from longer grass? Did you notice any increase in spin from the rough? From what I've read, that is more what they were looking to achieve -
Brand loyalty hurting my game?
BritBoy replied to The Golfing Polack's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I would say that if you like the clubs you have, or the others you are looking at, who cares who made them. For me personally I say that as soon as there is a check with my name on it for playing a certain manufacturers clubs I will be playing whatever feels good, no matter what the brand name is -
Staff Bag with Name on it (but not staff)
BritBoy replied to CallawayAddict's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have a taylormade bag with my name on it. I just had it ordered from Taylormade and I had to pay the extra $27.00 for the embroidery. Its definitely worth the money because it looks freakin awesome. -
Where Can I get Little Tees Like This One?
BritBoy replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I dont have any wooden ones but I have a bunch of short plastic tees that I used for par 3's,hybrids, etc. I pick up a fresh bunch every time I go to England. Right now I have about 500, and being plastic they last a little longer, so let me know if you want some. -
How do you recover from a bad shot/hole?
BritBoy replied to gaz d's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I thought I was the only one that suffered this way. The only thing that can take me out of my game quicker than this is if I dont like my shot and someone tells me "Good Shot". At that point I'm ready to explode -
Query About Whether to Get Lessons
BritBoy replied to Arsenal Forever's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Lessons are the only way to go, but there are no magic fixes. It will take time and commitment to get to a higher level. I have been taking lessons from the same pro for two years now and can see a huge difference in my game this year, but with all honesty the first 6 months or so my game went downhill a little. Take lessons, commit to improve, and you'll be home free. Hey and if you find a REALLY good pro he can talk you into taking down that Arsenal Avatar and putting up a Notts Forest one instead -
I'm just coming out of the same situation. I lost about 10 - 15 yards per iron, so I went running back to my coach to find out what was going wrong. It took him two swings to fix me I wasn't letting my hips rotate at all on the back swing, which in turn gave me a very upright swing. I worked on taking the club away a little more inside, with the swing thought of "get the right hip out of the way", a little narrower stance (by bringing in the right foot) and everything fell back into place. The first few swings I pulled the ball a lot, but then started to get the hips into the downswing too and am now hitting the ball just like before. Give it a try.

Never Compromise 'Exchange' Series
BritBoy replied to sdn40's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
my wife got the #1 for me a couple of months ago and I couldnt be happier. It has incredible feel, the ball rolls true of the face, and alignment is easy. NC's web site says that to add extra weight if your leaving putts short and to take some out if hitting long, and I'm sure it works, but for me I adjusted the weights for the feel. I have more confidence in this putter than any other I have ever had. You wont be dissapointed!!! -

I have two sons, the oldest is 12 and the youngest 10. I went shopping with them for new clubs a few months ago and ended up buying them ladies clubs. They a little shorter and lighter than mens, and also have more flex in the shaft. Also knowing how fast kids grow, these will last a little while. Anyway they both hit the snot out of them. My 12 year old averages about 180 of the tee with the driver and is playing 8 iron from 100 yards. The only thing I changed on the clubs was to take a little modeling paint and pain over the "adies" on the ladies flex, so now it just says "L Flex".

Harvey Pennick Is Truly Golf's Greatest Teacher
BritBoy replied to TarDawg's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I loved the littel red book, but I thik I enjoyed if you golf your my friend more -
I had to go to Clovis NM for a month last year, and managed to squeeze in 3 rounds at some sand lot country club down there. I had to rent clubs ( yay me ) and with the green fees, cart and rental it was around $125 to golf. OK so I would pay that to get my fix but this place sucked. Bare lies in the middle of the fairway, and I think the greens were cement that they had painted green.

I have hit it and it went long but I hit it too high. I am going to try the TP version, it's supposed to be a little lower ball flight.

I have played a couple of rounds with touring pros. 1 from PGA tour, and the other LPGA. And ya the 22 year old girlie kicked my a$$. It is without a doubt an eye opener to see these guys play. Scary long, scary accurate, and if its within 20ft. its probably in. The consistency was what stuck out most to me. But with Lumpy_22 playing off 6 he has some talent, and just as important as that he seems determined. I say go for it, what’s the worst that can happen? Lumpy, get the handicap down and enter some open events against local pros. Learn from that, and maybe try some local pro events or mini tour stuff. Try to Monday Qualify. Whatever it takes. Chase it now, or like you said, regret it later.

I am slowly but surely loosing swing speed with my driver. Call it age, call it mid section expansion, whatever you want. Does anyone know of any good training aides or exercises that can help to get swing speed back up? My usually swing speed is about 110MPH and I can push it to around 115mph. Last week I had it measured at 108mph and I felt like I was giving it everything and then some.

I'm still using the R5 and will for a while yet. I am going to change out the shaft this year. I dont really care what name is on the head. I think there is too little credit given to the value of having the right shaft in place.
