  1. the devil is in the details..he said "a scarlet letter instead of "THE scarlet letter" :D
  2. to regrip all you REALLY need is tape, utility knife, solvent, and the grips. it doesn't require as much force as you would think to slide a grip on as long as you apply the solvent properly(read:liberally) and use a catch tray to catch the overflow. I like to work the grips in my hand before putting them on...squeezing up and down the length of them, rolling them around a little, stretching the mouth a little bit...just makes them a little more workable, IMO. I was nervous about it, too but the most tedious part for me was building up the tape. Too bad they don't make golf pride cord grips in midsize :( oh forgot how I put them on with no vise....get a towel and put the head of the club in the towel(just in case it may get scratched and either push the grip down directly towards the floor or find a spot where the wall and floor meet and use that. After its "on" don't forget to tap the butt end pretty solidly on a hard surface a few times to make sure its all the way seated.
  3. as far as range etiquette...don't curse like a sailor, don't have your phone going crazy, and don't try to chat up everyone else out there :)
  4. If I have to hit next to someone, I will usually alternate shots with them. Gives me a chance to focus on what I'm doing and also not get into a habit of banging balls. If they are one of those who bang balls, I'll just go ahead and hit(doesn't bother me to have someone else swinging beside me) at my own pace.
  5. Stevie Williams wins another green jacket! Err..
  6. if you are a machine..theres no NEED to go back...you'll be producing consistent shots. Your "max" swing should be the max SPEED you can swing with and still control the ball. Swinging hard and swinging fast are two different things, IMO. About the only time I go all out is when a ball is buried in thick rough or when i'm feelin REALLY good and think I have a reasonable shot of reaching a par 5 in two from a good distance(say, a hybrid from 235)
  7. i notice little things like...on an earlier hole, I might of shot the flag at 133yds...so I pull a club for that yardage and make a swing. Come up on a later hole with that same yardage(roughly), I can judge the kind of swing I need and so forth. Makes the confidence go sky high. I also can get a gauge on my distances that particular day by shooting a number, then using my "usual" club and seeing how it fares...(given good contact, of course)
  8. played in 20-30 mph winds at ground level yesterday...was knocking 20 yards or more off a club into the wind. Hit the ball the best I've hit all year :) It was a lot of fun, really with only a select few tee shots being troublesome. I don't think the wind added any shots to my game, at least not any where I'd say "yeah that was the wind" but I sure gave some up with my short game! Ended up shooting an 87 on freshly punched and sanded greens..I'll take it!
  9. I pick up the ones I stumble across in tall grass hazards. They are definitely abandoned and I usually find them by stepping on them or walking right on top of them. I never "look" for abandoned balls, though. Any that I find that are playable..I throw to my dad who just plays for fun to spend time with me.
  10. Course condition is a huge one for me. Fairways in top shape and greens that roll smoothly. After that...its ambience, for me. I like a good "picture"...if that makes sense. Nice trees, good landscaping, a course that makes you feel "away from the world" for a round. I like a variety in hole shapes and layouts. The length isn't as big of an issue but I like holes that make you think of playing different shots or to different spots. Add on to that, holes that give you options on how to play it. Some with forced carries, some where you can play links golf, that kind of thing. After that comes the staff and all that "runs" the course. Friendly service(not bend over backwards service but a "hey, how are you guys doin today?" with a smile goes a long way with me)
  11. the common mistake is to try and swing harder when into the wing...that just compounds the effect. More spin created, more ballooning, less distance, more curve. Into a wind, you should swing smoother and not try to hit it harder...this will keep the ball down..give a little less spin, and help retain some distance and control.
  12. for all of you worrying...the creators of this hovercraft said they won't be on golf courses any time soon :)
  13. i've played 3 rounds with the same two balls(i'll switch them out between holes every few holes) One caught a tree and finally got a little cut in the cover but was still playable.
  14. actually, you hear the sound of the engine at the beginning of the clip
  15. its easy to blame everyone else than to say "I teach my kids the proper way to behave". Who are you to determine what someone else can and can't say in public? If their comment isn't directed at you or your kid, then you're just being overly sensitive to the situation and looking to have an issue, IMO. I've been around athletes my whole life...everyone of us curse(except the preachers...they use replacement words like "fudge" or "dangit"..but if you still intend it the same way..whats the difference?) a word is a word...
  16. the whole athletes cursing thing is funny to me. Media, TV, fans all want mics stuck to every athlete all the time so they can feel like an "insider" but they don't seem to stop and think about what they might end up hearing. Athletes are people, and people get frustrated in the heat of the moment when passion is very high. I could care less about it and think anyone whining should be shot down quickly. If its not in a direct interview(excluding something like NASCAR) then it shouldn't be an issue, ever.
  17. same here...the plain old pistol style ping grip is what I prefer.
  18. Just curious if this site is reputable and all that? Never used them before so thought I'd check to see if anyone else has any experience with them.
  19. save some money and go to a home improvement store and buy some star bits and a multi-bit screwdriver...and use the other 10 dollars for dinner :)
  20. at the end of the day...I realize that I'm never going to try and be or have the capabilities to be a traveling tourney player or a tour pro or anything else. I'll never make money from the game of golf....so even if I shoot a bad score, I know it isn't the end of the world :D
  21. my first reaction to the latest report about Keegan saying something was "quit whining and suck it up" Constantly putting it into the press that you don't like being called a cheater and its unfair to you and all this other stuff just makes YOU look like the bad one.
  22. ahh...shallowing out the AoA..thats a helpful thought. My normal approach was to open the face and all that but it just didn't produce near enough distance and I figured there has to be a better way.
  23. so how do you hit a shot higher? I can do ok with lowering flight but sometimes when I need to hit a shot higher, I'm really clueless as to how to do it and still get distance...so...what do you do?
  24. another thing to pay attention to is looking up early trying to see where the shot is going. If you do this then you will naturally pull your body up and thus, your club which will give you a thin/topped shot. Your head shouldn't stay perfectly still but you should definitely stay focused on the impact zone until the clubhead has come through it.
