  1. Once a champion, always a champion. Tiger will rule another decade once he gets his mind back and his swing under control. I hope he comes back with a vengeance!
  2. I may get there in that time. I was a 28 handicap in 2009. Last year I made it down to a 12. Last year I worked on course management and mental attitude and feel like I made huge progress. This year (in the last month) I have re-tuned my swing and feel like I can make single digit within the first half of this season. In Wisconsin we can only play about 7 months (5 good months) out of the year. Wish me luck.
  3. So you know Johny Lechner?
  4. Sliced a big bomb drive into the fairway to the right of ours on a 395 yard tree-lined par 4. Get to my ball in the other fairway sitting pretty in the rough on the far side, scope it at 187 to pin. Pull out my 5 iron and set up for a fade over/around trees (open stance & curl left hand under)... as soon as the ball left the clubface I proclaimed, "YEAH!" and watched the ball curve just how I imagined landing 4 feet above the hole. I've played this shot on this hole several times with similar results in the past 3 years.
  5. Oooh... rough group.
  6. My Puma PG GTX's are the most comfortable shoes I've ever had... golf or otherwise.
  7. I wore my golf shoes to Whistling Straits... glad I did too. The whole course is very hilly and sandy and behind the ropes there are a bunch of weird hilly/bunkery places to navigate around, over, and through. Many footholds were on sloping angles that only people with golf shoes could stand on for very long.
  8. I've been to a couple PGA events (GMO's and the PGA C'ship at Whistling Straits) and what I was most impressed with was the touch around the greens these guys have. Yeah, they hit their drives far and straight and their irons pure, but no matter what shape they were in around the green (lie, angle, slope, green size) they would effortlessly chip/pitch/flop/putt the ball within a make-able putting distance 97 times out of 100. It's really an art form.
  9. I think the rule was clearly broken, and Julie absolutely should have been penalized. I just think a DQ is a bit over the top. I would think that a 2 stroke penalty is plenty sufficient for using a training aid while away from the ball in play. Perhaps rewrite the rule for a 1st offense of 2 stroke penalty, any recurrence would then constitute DQ.
  10. Rules are rules but these penalties are HARSH! How much money is she out because she broke a rule that had no mal intent? DQ'd? Seriously.
  11. I've been scratching out mid/high-80's scores with the same predicament(s). Played the best round of my life 3 weeks ago followed by 7 ugly rounds. We'll see what happens this afternoon.
  12. Rub a little dirt on it you sissy. It may swell on you if you play... I have played with a thumb with the same injury and gave up after the front nine... this was back in the days where I got mad at myself for playing poorly and got all huffy, however, so I may have just used that as an excuse. Can't remember if I truly couldn't play.
  13. Shaped a 4 iron on a par 5 211 yards with a draw around the corner to 5 feet of the flagstick. Probably couldn't do it again like that if I tried 20 times. Sad part is, this was my 3rd shot as I flubbed my driver and had to lay up with my second shot. Sadder part is, even though I got to the green in 3 I still 2-putted for par.
  14. Duffing a 5 iron 50 yards left and out of bounds or topping a driver 15 yards short of the ladies tees.
  15. Minimum 1 blow up hole with 3 bad shots... sometimes a couple of those in a round. Some days I feel like I am getting worse... but then I look at my score at the end of the round and I can't believe that I'm still shooting in the 80's... I think it is all perception.
  16. I noticed that he was not wearing his ring at Whistling Straits.

    PGA Fiasco

From 0:22 in this video: Farhety, "He's got 233 yards to the flagstick." Faldo, "Off sand." Nantz, "It's actually one of those, you know, 1000 plus bunkers here." Everyone knew it was a bunker. As for the people standing in the bunker... they were marshalls. The spectators were moved to the lip of the bunker. The people inside the bunker were marshalls holding everyone back. (A woman in the upper right corner and an older gentleman with the folding chair next to her)
  18. Oooh's and Ahhh's from the tee box. Oh's and No's on the green.
  19. Congrats dude! I broke 80 two weeks ago and out of 6 rounds haven't shot a round under 85 since (with one round at 97!)... frustrating but seeing all the people on the forums with similar problems helps. Hope you can keep shooting at the bogey level for a while. Remember tempo... also, ball then divot. Pure iron shots lead to the need for a divot repair tool. Busting that sucker out means good scores.
  20. I hate sudden death. I can understand utilizing sudden death after the aggregate, but sudden death can leave a sour taste in your mouth. (Especially NFL games)
  21. The rules were posted in many places for the players/caddies to see before and during the event. The rules stated that if there is sand on the course, it is played as a bunker (no waste areas). When DJ looked down at his ball it was CLEARLY in sand. 'Nuff said. Rule as posted in black & white: "All areas of the course that were designed and built as sand bunkers will be played as bunkers (hazards), whether or not they have been raked. This will mean that many bunkers positioned outside the ropes, as well as some areas of bunkers inside the ropes, close to the rope line, will likely include numerous footprints, heel prints and tire tracks during play of the championship. Such irregularities of surface are part of the game and no free relief will be available from these conditions."

  23. I will mark down the score that I think I would get... It can be based on how I've played during this round, or how I've played the course before. If I've been sticking the par 3's and par 5'sall day then I'll mark a par if the last two have 3's or 5's. If my back nine has a bunch of bogeys on the par 4's and the last two contain a par 4, I might give myself a bogey for the 4.

    Best Golf Job

I am a computer consultant. I lucked out and started my own business a couple years ago, then worked for an area tech company that got bought out and left me with some of the 'smaller' clients. I charge a premium and have a handful of regular work, so I can golf pretty much when I want and can schedule the non-emergency calls around my tee times. I'm not going to get rich this way as I spend all my money on golf and golf equipment, but for this summer it sure has improved my game. I duck and deer hunt in the fall, so I'll shift my income relief to that and still not get rich but have fun not doing it. :)

    Eagles?

I've had a dozen or so eagle opportunities but have yet to sink the putt.
