I've always thought I've been a good member of the forum, but the little urine stained ball underneath my name is saying otherwise. I don't have an ego and I don't care if I don't have 8 golf balls teed up under my name, but the negative nonsense underneath my name is quite irritating. You can scan through my post history and you won't find a single negative post.

Couples looks like he could still play and compete with the younger guys. Why in the world would he play on the Champions Tour if that's the case?

How do you go about getting new shafts for the R9? I have the stock shaft in my R9 460 and was interested in getting something fit for my swing but was under the impression that you couldn't because of the special tip. Is there somewhere to order online? EDIT: I'm going to answer my own question. I just found this site: http://www.golfcircuit.com/Taylor-Made-r9-Driver-Shafts/__2715.html I really like the Matrix Ozik X-Con 5 but at $200 that's what I paid for the driver itself.

Let us know how it went today.

Why would you have to be single? I suppose if you are playing the entire circuit. Nothing wrong with taking a weekend to play in one tournament though. I've never played in it(need to get better) but I'm hoping to play the event in Miami at Doral this summer. I think it's only ~$200 or so.

And that he did.

At least he's playing somewhere.

Golf Evolution Schools/Seminars/Classes Master Thread
Tugglife2 replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'm registered and ready to go for the mini-school at Ironhorse in West Palm Beach next Wednesday! -
Good point. Some people are bums without a hobby. Some are beach bums. He's a golf bum. It just seems like he's played the occasional mini-tour here and there but was always well off financially or had someone taking care of him. It doesn't sound like he's ever had to work.

My goodness those pictures of the Arizona courses are stunning.

I just saw a commercial for I guess the next episode with the two hockey players playing(Hull and Roenick?). Isn't this an old episode? The commercial made it seem like it was new.

Great win for probably my favorite tour player! I'm really enjoying watching Johnny Vegas too.

Punch Shots - Greatly Improved Swing/Results
Tugglife2 replied to Tugglife2's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'm working on it re: recording a video of my swing. It's not a true punch shot where I'm holding up my follow through. I actually just found this recent article on Jonathan Byrd that is seemingly the type of swing I'm talking about. http://www.pgatour.com/2011/tourlife/instruction/01/11/fultonblog_0111/index.html Not sure how accurate that article is on the nuances of the swing and what is actually occurring during the shot, but it sounds like it makes sense. -
I was playing with a buddy on Friday when he noticed that I hit my best shots whenever I was in the trees and had to attempt to hit a low stinger punch type shot to get out. Some of my shots were very low liners that scorched underneath the tree branches and some I just hit incredibly solid right into the tree(frustrating!) Anyway, he brought this observation to my attention and told me to pretend I was hitting every shot like I had a tree in front of me and had to keep it low underneath the branches. Since then I've been hitting the ball better than I ever have. Most of my mishits(thin shots) are completely gone. I've gained 15+ yards on all of my clubs. I feel like I'm hitting more "down" on the ball and the punchy feeling during my swing is resulting in a lower and more compact follow through and finish. Beyond that I can't quite say what's going on with my swing mechanically but I'm obviously loving the results so far.

Finally got a pair of golf shoes. I've been wearing running shoes out on the course and since I ride when I play I didn't feel much urgency to get a pair. I got a great deal on a pair of Nike Zoom Trophy shoes($70, usually around $100 everywhere else). I also figured I'd get a pair of good golf socks to go along. Went with the Kentwool Tour Profile socks. Haven't tried the shoes/socks yet though.

How far south do I need to go to golf?
Tugglife2 replied to bustaone's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
You can still play in Carolina this time of year. Anything south of that is obviously playable. -
Bubba hit a ridiculous second shot on the 18th. Took driver and knocked it to 10 feet from 305 yards out. He hit like a 50 yard slice to get it there too. He just sunk the putt for eagle.

Mine is unofficial from oobgolf and truth be told, I'd be a 30+ right now if I were entering scores. I got to a 25 this summer, stopped playing for a few months (way too busy) then started again a months ago and I can't break 100 to save my life.

Contrary to popular belief, alligators are pretty slow creatures when running. A fast gator can run 12 mph. They are ambush predators and do not chase their prey. I live about 15 minutes from the Everglades so I've encountered plenty of them down here.

Today was my first day playing a round using Stack and Tilt. I've been practicing at the range a few times a week for the past several weeks. At the range I have been hitting some great and consistent shots off the mats. Playing 18 today was a disaster. I think the mats at the range were masking some major problems. I kept taking MASSIVE divots(behind the ball) and the ball would squirt out 25 yards or so. I felt like I was doing a good job of keeping my weight forward(maybe not in actuality). I think the problem might be from a tilting backwards(think right shoulder dipping on downswing) but I couldn't correct the problem all round. Extremely frustrating as I was very confident going into the round. I am going to try to post some videos of my swing later this week. Also am strongly considering attending the mini-school with Steve Sieracki at Ironhorse on Jan. 12.

I've been thinking about this as well. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Sports Management but would like to break into the golf industry in the managerial/operations capacity. A lot of Golf Management programs I've researched require a certain playing competency which I'm not at. I think those programs are intended for people that are interested in becoming teaching pros which I am not interested in. By the way, the rec/sports management degree itself isn't worth a whole lot. It by itself certainly will not go a long way to land you a job. IF you are interested in working in golf or recreation and decide to pursue that program, make sure you take the time to network in the industry and get yourself out there even if it means you are working for free. Once you graduate getting a job is going to be about who you know and what type of practical work experience you've gained while studying.

The blues at most of the courses I play are in the ~6500 range and the whites are about 6000-6300. Distance isn't so much of an issue as control and keeping the ball on or near the fairway. Lots of good info in this thread.
-
I think I'll just stick with the whites. mirv, I'm 25 years old and have always been a good athlete and my drives are usually in that same range as your 64 year old father. The only time I have trouble with distance is on very long par 4's(~430 yards or more) but those are pretty rare where I play.
-
I've always played the white tees but have recently been thinking about playing the blue tees. It seems for the most part courses around here are about 300 yards longer when going from white to blue. As a high handicapper I have a hard enough time playing from the whites, but is it really that big a deal to just move back and try to get better on a longer track?

Let me start off by saying I'm sure there are a number of very good reasons for good players like yourself to use players irons over GI irons. A few being the ability to hit it longer and the added workability, feedback, etc. HOWEVER, I sometimes get the feeling that a lot of people use players irons over GI irons for the "machoness" or coolness factor that comes with them. Similar to using a stiff flex shaft when a regular flex might be more suited for a person's swing. Maybe I'm off base but it's just something I've noticed around the courses I play.
