I don't recall seeing a thread like this so I suppose I'll start it. I'm from Washington state . Newcastle to be specific. What about the rest of y'alls? Maybe we can find new golf buddies to play with and challenge ourselves.

Wow! I never thought people here would take this thread so seriously, i'm very impressed! About me. I'm 24, coming up on my quarter life crisis and I recently became addicted to Golf. I live with my girlfriend of a year and a half who got me into this game and not regrets ever putting a golf club in my hand because I will never stop talking about the sport. I'm a loud mouth with foul language, brutally honest, genuine, big hearted, sarcastic, witty, intelligent, analytical, active, mysterious, teddy bear. I'm a firm believer that all people will be exposed to corruption at one point in there life. I feel that the younger they are exposed to it (13 bare minimum) the better because it will give them at least 5 years to either become tired of the corruption and better themselves, or they will become apart of the corrupt society and entertain me with there idiotic tendencies that constantly put them in the spot light for not-so-great situations. I'm honest with the people that matter most to me in my life. I have a huge social circle which I have shied away from in the past 3 years due to growing up and having to fend for my own after having both my parents pass away when I was at the ripe age of 21/22. I have learned that putting myself before others has been my guideline for survival as I slipped up once and was drained dry by people I thought I could trust living with me, but instead mooched off me because I was the only person who could hold a "real job". I cherish my close friendships more than anything in the world as these people are the ones who stuck by my side as I cried myself to sleep, lied about being ok, and all other bullshit issues. It was them that told me that everything was going to be ok and to keep my chin up. I'm intelligent even though I dropped out of HS and never went to college for more than 3 months at a time. I am self taught in graphic and web design, 3D rendering, Marketing/Sales and Management. I have an urge to always feed my brain with new information and am always learning. I over analyze things in my life to make them better, everything from my daily routine, to my golf swing. I played 2 sports when I was younger, soccer (14 years) and bowling (4 years). I was invited to go on the PBA tour at the age of 18 but turned it down because I wanted to spend more time in front of my computer coding than spending time in dingy bowling alley's. I'm a professionally trained ballroom dancer and am certified to teach 14 dances (and variations of each dance). I gave up teaching because it didn't challenge me mentally enough as it did physically. Because I gave up dancing for a desk job, I became a giant teddy bear instead of a little stick figure. All in all, I cherish every relationship I have with every person I know. I work hard and play harder. I kiss but don't tell. (unless i'm drunk). I'm independent but still have my faults and skeletons in the closet that I have yet to dust off and get rid of which I need to do.

I was playing at my local course and the 2 foursomes ahead of me were screaming obscenities at each other since the 3rd hole. By the 11th hole, a guy from the group in front of me tee'd off when the group in front of him was only 180-200 ish yards out. The guy who tee'd off nailed the golf cart and distracted the guy who was about to take his shot. Guy from the 2nd group grabbed the dude's ball and started walking back towards the tee box. As I was pulling up to the green I see the guy from the tee box start running towards the other guy with his 3 buddies behind him golf clubs in hand cussin and swearin a storm up .. next thing you know it was an 8 person brawl on the 11th hole with bent clubs flying everywhere, fists flying, shit talking, all sorts of insanity. I parked my cart, called the club house, cracked a beer and sat back to enjoy the bare knuckle fight til the marshall came out.

I got addicted after watching sandals resort. I say ryann comes back. (even though I know she won't be there). That girl's body was like .. *drool* and the season doesn't start til 10/04 for me =( LAME!

Being an urban kid, i'm not gonna lie, who's your caddy made me chuckle .. i like the spoof it does on country clubs :p. happy gilmore is still my favorite, and tin cup just went into my netflix que.

380yard par 4. First shot went right into the next fairway about 200 yards from the box, grabbed my 7w and launched that sucker over some small trees about 30yds from the greens. Overshot the green on my 3rd shot into a bunker behind the green. Couldn't see where the hole was, just the flag and chipped my shot out of the bunker .. rolled down the green into the pin where the guys i was playing with almost shit themselves.

i'm a lazy SOB and just get an electric cart. I usually hire a cousin or something to drive me around and make me feel special. But then again i'm also one of those people who spends too much on the sport and am forced to carry, which i don't mind doing either. :) I'll only carry if i'm playing 9, if it's 18, it's def cart time.

I'm with everyone else on playing more tourney's i would too. I bowled competitively when I was younger and my first tournament I should at least 40-60 pins under my average. The nerves is what really gets you and once you can learn to tame those down during high pressure situations, your game will sky rocket because you're not focused on impressing anybody but yourself. I love playing with strangers too. I personally like to sand bag my skill and tell them I suck. If they're shooting a 0 handicap spanking me up and down the course, well, I was right when I said I sucked :p.

I think what it all boils down to is, "is this person (or am I) mature and respectful enough to dress accordingly to how others on this course dress like?" you put a brother with pants around his ass and a durag onto a semi-privately owned course and tempers are gonna fly. But what if he shoots a 68/72? Are tempers still gonna fly? Even if he talks straight thug? Anybody here seen the movie, "Who's Your Caddy?" with Big Boi from Outkast? Kinda reminds me of what we're discussing right now almost.

it's not the course's responsibility to regulate the amount of liquor/beer/wine that you consume in the 3-5 hour period it takes you to play a round. At that age, people should be responsible enough to know what there limit is. If they don't, it just shows how irresponsible and how much of a fool they are to get that intoxicated amongst people who take the game (and there liver) seriously.

That's the thing, the mantra of golf is that it is a "gentleman's game" and not just a game. Giving golf that kind of reputation makes jr's, and women feel unwelcome amongst the sport because only "gentleman" play this sport. The actual definition of a gentleman is "a man of refinement" .. If only refined men were playing the game then the sport would die out eventually because with today's economy, along with social media and media as a whole ruining the minds of children. If someone were to tell me that golf was only a sport for gentleman, I wouldn't ever go past believing that only rich, refined, men play this sport and rub shoulders while smoking $80 cigars and whacking away at a little white ball. Nobody would ever believe that it takes actual skill to do what it is that we do. I don't feel that the game of golf should be considered a "gentleman's" sport because you're discriminating at that point, but instead change the overall mantra to golf being a refined and skilled sport that requires finess and patience.

hide your clubs, tell them they got stolen at the course. buy new irons as your first purchase towards replacing your lost irons. then, all of a sudden, your clubs reappear. magic.

you speak of only a specific demographic(s) that to social norm standards aren't "standard". If a brother from the hood wants to show up at a course with his shiny blinged out clubs, pants below his ass, hat off to the side with a huge gold chain, fine, be my guest. I'm not gonna say anything because maybe this brotha from the hood is a decent scratch golfer and doesn't mind playing in the digs that he wore to the course. now, if i'm stuck behind him and I can tell he's not takin this seriously, i'll pressure him all through out the course til he realizes that this isn't a game that people take lightly. He'll probably realize that with his level of play, he should probably hit the driving range first. Now, take that same brother from the hood, and he's playing scratch all day long and isn't holding up traffic, who am i to judge what he's wearing? It's not me that has to suffer in the sun in heavy jeans and a fubu jacket. Plus with golf apparel fashion in today's world, a lot of younger tour players are introducing bright vivid colors and patterns on the clothing that they wear. They're not buttoning there polo to the very top button and they're wearing no-show ankle socks when wearing shorts instead of wearing cumbersome dress socks. like someone said earlier, the young golfers of today is the future of golf in 10-30 years.

I don't see how clothes would affect the image of the game. Golf isn't an easy sport that most people can play in just normal street clothes. A lot of the clothes that people wear while golfing are designed for just that: golfing. They're light, they're airy, they breathe well, they are cut properly so that a person can swing freely and walk comfortably along a course and enjoy the game of golf. but. for the people who are die hard golfers like the majority of us on this website and don't mind golfing in jeans granted that they're properly fitted and don't have more holes then this chick , I don't see what the issue is with having jeans on while playing golf. Sooner or later these people will realize that golfing in jeans isn't the most comfortable thing to do, and will revert to other forms of clothing to make the 3-5 hours experience on a golf course more enjoyable. I understand that "golf" has a reputation of being that "uppity" sport that only "rich people" play, but I feel that that reputation should be abolished as there are so many other sports that cost just as much, if not more, and are classified with lower class america. IE: bowling. and if there's manlove on the greens, just clean up after yourself please and don't ruin my line, or else i'ma be shovin my putter in the places where the sun don't shine.

Of all the people that are new that I've gone golfing with, the 3 things that I tell them are this. Hands in this position (proper grip) Keep your left arm straight (right if they're lefties) keep your eye on the ball. From there, I'll try and see what small things can make a huge difference in there golfing ability. The biggest mistake imo that a lot of newbies make when starting is trying to wack the crap out of the ball. It takes time to get them to changes there mindset so that there goal is to hit the ball square, instead of hitting the ball 1293898213 yards out.

I was out playing a par 3 with a buddy before I had boughten a stand bag, I was still using my old rickety cart bag that I had gotten with my hand me down clubs .. I went to try and stand them on there own with a small decline towards some bush/water and for the most part the bag was staying upright. After we finished the hole, I walked over and went to put my putter back in my bag only to knock it off balance and in slow motion I watched it start tipping towards the water. I reached out to try and grab it and ended up losing my balance and sliding down the hill into the bushes and water. I quit after that hole.

Hey. Newbie golfer here .. Been playing for about 4ish months (started taking the game seriously in may '10) .. Got my first set of hand me down clubs from my girlfriend's mom's boyfriend and it's been a wild ride since then. I live in Newcastle, WA (anybody from the washington area??) and mainly play at either willows run or foster. A little bit about me and i'll get this show on the road... I'm not new to forums, i've been on them since I was at least 16 (everything from computer/gaming forums, car forums, motorcycle forums). I'm 24, closing in on my quarter-life crisis, and i'm the operations director for a company in Seattle that produces Bamboo Bed Linens. Hobbies include ballroom dancing (used to teach it), golf, traveling, DJing, and anything cellphone/apple/blackberry related. =) I'm looking forward to posting on here!

I guess there's a no passing rule period at this course, the older couple even said to pass them as they were taking there sweet time. just kinda stupid imo.

It's been awhile since I've gone .. I got banned from the misses from entering any golf store when unsupervised. But, the last time I did go, i got: 3 Adidas Climacool shirts (white black and green) Puma performance golf polo puma shorts Adidas climalite pants Taylormade Rossa "Fontana" putter (on sale!) 500 white 2 3/4" tee's 4 dozen Titliest DT Solo Golf balls New taylormade grips for all my irons (3-9, PW, SW) and a pair of pink nike golf shoes for the misses

I was actually playing a really nice CC course a few weeks back and the group in front of my two-some was and older couple enjoying the day .. We had been riding them all day til we got the 15th par5 @ 550 yards and we decided to just pass them and head straight to 16 .. course marshall wasn't too happy with that and made us go back to the tee box and wait til they finished the hole ( a whopping 25 minutes! ). They said there's no passing no matter what.
