Many places here will charge $25 or $50 for a fitting and then credit that towards the purchase of clubs, so you can get a fitting for a small charge without buying the clubs there, don't know what it is like there.

rockbottomgolf.com will ship to the UK, and I've never heard anything bad about them. Tons of nice looking irons in your price range.

Iron Bending to fix terrible ball flight
glebert replied to CJL's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Maybe I'm wrong, but the toe being up at address doesn't necessarily mean the lie angle is wrong, what really matters is during the swing. -
Re: your irons, I know there are a lot of guys who swear by Top Flite Tours, maybe you should try getting them regripped? You can also lengthen them at the same time pretty cheaply.
-
Seems like at 13 you are going to grow out of whatever you get in a couple of years. No way would I spend $500+ on a new set of irons. I got my forged Macgregor mixed cavity/blade set for $67 used. They are mighty sweet.

I think the cutoff is 5.3

Actually I don't care for the look of either of those clubs at address.

I've played GI, then SGI, then blades, and have now settled on players cavity or mixed cavity/blade sets. You know what? Blades never hurt my scores. In fact, I recently shot a new PB (by several strokes) playing my "vacation set" which are 20 year old Ram Axial Tour Grind blades. I do think that blades can make you a better ballstriker, and smaller clubs make me concentrate more. Oh, and they are beautiful.

Driver Visual Alignment Question (Adams Speedline)

I stole this from another forum. It may be a dumb rule, but that is the rule. -
Driver Visual Alignment Question (Adams Speedline)
glebert replied to ChvyKc's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
FWIW, I think stickers as an alignment aid would be illegal per the rules, but paint is OK. Then again I don't pretend to be a rules guy. -
I had SGI irons a few years ago (Adams GT3) and they gave me a quick improvement in my scores (finally broke 100) but then I flattened out very quickly and didn't improve. I picked up some old blades (Hogan Apex) and started really working on my swing mechanics. Now I am playing something in between and my scores have been slowly dropping (have broken 90 a few times). Maybe I would have gotten there with the SGI irons, but somehow I don't think so.

Cost to lengthen a set of irons.
glebert replied to Packerfan's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My local shop wanted $7 per club plus the cost of the grip. I did it myself for maybe $3 a club (sans the cost of the grip). -
My !NEW! club decapitated itself after being hit 3 times
glebert replied to 2xBoGuy's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
This is kinda weird. I looked at Golfsmith's OEM shaft replacement guide ( http://www.golfsmith.com/pdf/oem_replacement.pdf ) and they have the tip for all Trimetals as 0.370. Since that is normally the tip diameter for iron shafts, I figure it must be a typo, but I went out and measured the tip on the shaft I pulled from a Trimetal driver and it came out to 0.367". WTF? I was assuming the diameter was 0.350 because it was bigger than 0.335, I've never heard of anyone using 0.370 in woods. -

glebert replied to 2xBoGuy's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
It looks to me like a 0.335 shaft in a 0.350 hosel. I have pulled a couple of shafts from Trimetal drivers and they were both 0.350 hosel. edit: on second thought, it's hard to tell the shaft diameter just looking at the tip, since it looks like it is sanded down more than the "barrel". When you stick the shaft back into the head does it wobble around or is it pretty snug? -
If you look at the picture in the auction is looks as though the swastika is not rotated 45 deg. like the Nazi symbol. Unfortunately, people really only are interested in swastikas because of the association with Nazis. I don't think it's racist, but do think it is kind of morbid. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

Bushnell 5x20 Golf Scope
glebert replied to TMburner09's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I've only heard bad things about golf scopes, at least the inexpensive graticle types. -
I think the Ping Hoofer Light is a really nice no frills, super light bag that will still hold 14 clubs (and I'm kind of an anti-Ping guy). I don't think they are making them anymore but I see some on Ebay currently.

Can I rant about the spelling mistakes and poor grammar in this thread?

That sounds like a great course. I really like courses where you get the know the guys and you are actually valued as a regular customer, not just seen as another greens fee.
-
Not to rain on your monday or anything, but is playing after the pro shop closes allowed? Some places would call that trespassing.

If someone is selling the newest model irons for $350 less than anyone else they are fake. Too good to be true = fake.

This Website seems fishy.. Ridiculous prices..

Gotta be fakes. -
For whatever reason I can't hit them as well as my 5 and 7 woods.

Dancin Dogg Optishot simulator
glebert replied to mtsalmela80's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Frankly it has probably made it worse, and is mostly how I am using it. Mine only gives clubface angle at impact (it is an older unit), and I was tweaking my swing (to get the face square) and my swing has completely fallen apart. I have gone back to using my dual trace swing trainer, which shows me path and face angle not only at impact but also before and after. I've had very good luck in the past with this trainer, which is a homemade version of the Freddy Connect trainer. You can make one for maybe $15 with a couple of LEDs, a resistor, a battery and holder, and a piece of plexiglass to mount them on. I've got a newborn baby at home, so I don't have much time to golf for real, and the Launchpad is good for playing a quick faux 9 at night, but I don't think it is the best swing trainer. Surprisingly I think the Launchpad with TW Golf is a decent way to work on the mental part of the game, because course management becomes important. -

I have something similar, and Electric Spin Golf Launchpad. http://electricspin.com/ I think it is pretty good at picking up the path and face angle, and mine isn't even the new improved version. It interfaces pretty well with TW golf (although the putting drives me nuts). FYI you can get the newest Launchpad for half of the Dancin' Dogg. There were a few of us on the forum that got Launchpads last year about Christmas, and there are some threads with reviews.
