Planning first golf buddies trip. What do the wives do?
bmartin461 replied to Tee Wade's topic in Golf Talk
You are thinking like a guy here, when women get together, time is no longer relevant. A spa day will be a full day, you won't need to worry. My recommendation to you would be to put a schedule together, so everyone is on the same page, that way you will be able to carve out the time you need for golf and let the wife know when she needs to self entertain. 7AM group breakfast 8:30 - 4:30 men are golfing (2 rounds per day right??) 6:00PM group dinner etc. etc. etc. -
Well, if you booked on-line for an earlier time as a single, then you would have a reservation for that time and the course would most likely honor it. They are probably giving you a later time verbally as they are more confident there would be room at that particular hour. Either way, you will be fine.

@Golfingdad I am really bummed but my daughter now has a piano recital scheduled that day, at 1pm, so there is no way I can make it now. Sorry, I was really looking forward to it. Next time!

Very cool. I bought two of those posters on eBay last year, the 2008 (Torrey) & 2012 (Olympic Club), both framed and signed. The guy that shipped them did a terrible job with packaging and the glass broke and ripped the posters to shreds. I was so bummed, plus when I opened them up all these small glass shards went everywhere. No fun, had to get a refund, etc.

Conceptual Training Gadget - Would You Buy It?
bmartin461 replied to bmartin461's topic in Golf Talk
Since it's conceptual at this point the answer is yes, it will work. -
I was watching GC and they had a segment on with Tom Kite. He was showing how he would practice his chipping from 20, 30, 40 yards. Basically he had his caddie stand at each station and bark out how close he was to hitting the yardage. So if he hit it one yard past the 20 mark, she would say 21, etc. Immediate feedback. He said he did that drill every day. I thought it was a great way to practice, but unfortunately, I don't have a full time caddie at my disposal. So, imagine a device about the size of a Amazon Echo, that you would place out at whatever distance you wanted to practice hitting to. It would have a spinning laser that would create a 10 yard circle (non-visible) and track where your ball hits in relation to it. It would communicate back to your phone the results, audible each time and also track the entire session. Is this something you would buy?

How Would You Play It? (Hole #10 at Goose Creek)
bmartin461 replied to Golfingdad's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I voted #3. I would feel most confident with an iron short and left of the large bunker, trying to get into the 130-140 range as there is not much protecting the green on this hole. I played this course once, in 2014, I bogeyed this hole but I did hit the fairway looks like.- 125 replies

That was very entertaining! My favorite parts were the explanation of the "white stuff" and moving the ball out of the divot. You seem like someone that would be fun to play a round of golf with, good luck!

I agree, it's part of the role. I think Bob Costas does a good job too. I don't care for Joe Buck as much. How about Lester Holt? LOL

Anyone like the artwork Lee Wybranski does for golf? He is best known for his US Open posters. I just bought this signed print from eBay, I was really drawn to it (no pun intended).

ShortPar4 Golf Wear Box Service
bmartin461 replied to Jeremie Boop's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Yeah, I agree, it's not worth the trouble, it was good while it lasted. Plus, the wife always questioned why I was getting the boxes each month when I already have 10 polos etc. -

Anyone still getting these each month? I stopped mine last year as it was always the same thing and then it became one name brand with one SP4 brand. I just got a "come back" email saying the next shipment will include a pair of shoes.... -
Hilarious!!

From Golf Digest. Country club members don't know how sweet they have it. Here are 13 problems that only public golfers understand. More time is spent waiting at the driving range than actually hitting balls Ball marks are just as hazardous as water or out-of-bounds Knowing the 5th tee box could serve as your camp site Recognizing brakes on the golf cart are more for show than safety Smacking your drive onto another hole likely means your ball will be picked up. Actually, your ball’s not safe on your fairway, either Waking up at 6 AM on a Saturday to make a reservation for next weekend, only to find all the good tee times are already gone Marshals are as effective in speeding up play as cookies are in promoting weight loss Getting blindly paired with someone who could end up being A) your new best friend or B) a fugitive of the law That "after-work league" is synonymous with "good luck getting on today, pal" Hitting out of sand traps that are more dirt than sand The range balls are older than your grandma’s wallpaper... ...And that mats so worn down that you’re basically hitting off concrete There's a 50/50 chance your belongings in the locker room will be there after the round What would you add?

You could just create an account on his behalf, I'm sure you know his email address. LOL. That way you can give him some sort of generationally appropriate username.

I was just watching the WGC-Mexico tournament and Jimmy did a segment on the proposed rules of golf changes. I enjoy him as a storyteller/vinnette guy, whether it's the Olympics or golf, he does such a great job with it. Sometime I'll record the beginning of the Sunday round start of a major just to watch his intro segment. He seems like a class act. I miss the show he used to have on TGC.

Sounds great! I agree with the 30th as the 23rd will be the end of a lot of spring break weeks for kids in school. Thanks for organizing! @Golfingdad @tristanhilton85 @Big C @mvmac @Hacker James (possibly +1) @chilepepper @Shindig @Lihu @bmartin461

I voted in the "somewhat" likely, and like others stated, it would depend on the hole. I played in a tourney last year at the course I play a lot and there is a hole that I am never confident on and even when I setup to not hit it OB I do more than I would like, a re-tee often results in hitting to a terrible location with no clear shot. But that is me at a 14HC level. I could see why a low HC would say not likely. I would rather the rule be changed to match a lateral hazard. Why is OB treated differently, it's the same think conceptually, you hit it where it should not be and either cannot get to it or cannot get a club on it.

Should Tour Players Have Their Own Set of Rules?
bmartin461 replied to bmartin461's topic in Golf Talk
Yes, I read the same stuff this morning which prompted me to ask here. It is interesting that there are a few tour players who say they should have their own set.
