Hi im new


i have a couple of questions


My dad does not golf but he is telling me i should use a 3 wood instead of a driver bad idea?


Since im new to golf. and have a limited ammount of money these are the things im getting.

My friend says these things suck. He is a good golfer he won distrcits for our area, i know he has never tried these so im not gonna listen to him

I check golf reviews i find them to be kind of fake. All products get 5/5 stars for alot of clubs so i really dont trust these sites

First, congatulations on taking up golf. You are in for a real treat!

As for your questions about equipment: there are all sorts of compromises in life. Ideally, you would go to a professional fitter, get on a launch monitor and get fitted for just the right loft, length, lie and shaft flex for each club. Well, according to you, that's not in the cards right now. It seems you've selected, or had selected for you, some very nice clubs. You may want to be sure the flex of the shaft is correct, depending on your swing speed ( which is not so hard to measure -- most large golf retailers have some way to do this ). Short of that, grab your new clubs and go out and have fun! Most especially, do not worry about what your friends say about your clubs. About that 3 wood: many fellows hit their 3 wood off the tee and not just beginners. Tiger Woods used a 2 iron off the tee on almost every par 4 in the final round of the 2006 Open, which, by the way, he won. In regard to your putter: you can putt with almost any flat stick. Give yours a try and later, if you just can't live with it, you can always save a few dollars and buy another one, especially after you've got some experience playing, as well as trying out several different models in order to help you figure out what works best for you. Remember, no one can, with real authority, tell you what putter is best for you ( or any other club, for that matter ), only time, experience and the assistance of a good fitter can lead you down the right path in regard to equipment. So, take what you've got and go have a heck of a good time!

First 99% of the members here forget more in 2 minutes than my total knowlege of golf, but I'll offer this. I just cut and pasted the comment below from a post a couple weeks ago.

While not a beginner, I hadn't played in 10 yrs. Even when I did I shot barely in the low 100's per 18. A couple weeks ago I was in same boat. Should I spend the $ and get a high quality set, get fitted and so forth, get a used set, get a boxed set for $300 range or go the clone route. Just so happend one Friday night at my local pub I met a teaching pro from one of the local courses and ask him for advise. He advised spending in the $300-$400 range on a set of clubs, being it a boxed set, used or clone. To not worry about getting fitted, unless I was unusualy short or tall, which I'm not, 6'. Save the extra $ for lessons. His reason being a treaching pro can adjust your swing for a given set of clubs, basicly as a beginner your swing will change anyway. Once your swing stabilizes then go get a correct fitting. Also by then you'll have a good idea if you'll be sticking with the game. Based on his advice I seached Ebay found a great deal on a set of Adams A2 OS irons, went to Giga Golf and got a driver, 3 wood, putter and bag. I spent a total of $379. Took my first lesson yesterday and he thought I did very well (club wise that is). He really liked the Giga stuff, and said I got a steal on the irons.
