Is it wrong to demo a club in an outing?

If you went to an outing with good prizes, would you use another club if yours didn't work for you?

I have an outing this weekend with some pretty decent prizes up for grabs (Callaway FT-5, Titleist D2, Nike SQ2 to name a few) and they are all for things such as Longest drive & closest to the pin in 2 (par 5) etc

Now, seeing as I struggle to keep my driver in play, I'm unlikely to achieve any of these and I won't get my 5 wood beyond 220 yards which takes me out of the long hitters range, and unlikely to hit a par 5 in 2 from that far back.

So, to take myself into play, I was toying with getting a demo club for the day... I know I hit my R7 460 well, so was thinking about trying an R7 Superquad... When I had my 460, I won a few long drive prizes on outings and was very consistent with it. But it broke and I got the 905R in exchange. I suck with the open face.

Before anyone asks, I am getting a new driver & 3 wood in 3 weeks when I am home and get fitted, so I will be buying one, not just using and abusing demo clubs each week!

Not buying here though - $500 for a superquad is a piss take!

Sound like a plan?

I'll try the range an evening this week - bucket of 100 balls, driver only as the rest of the spanners are working well at the moment, to see if I can get it sorted (super strong grip is my plan!)... I'd be delighted if I could get it working, but it just never seems to click with me.

It would be wrong NOT to do it. Demo clubs are there to be used! Of course I'd prefer to take it from a big box chain rather than a mom & pop, just on principle.

Ya theres nothing wrong wit it at all. The superquad isn't going to give you some sort of technological advantage, you just feel more confident with it and hit better.

I think its the closed face on the R7 that felt good - something with the 905 is different... not sure why, but when its in my hands, I just know its going to wickedly slice. Square face I think.

Absolutely nothing wrong here man. If you were using an illegal club or changing movable weights during the competition I would call you out, but no one is ever going to call you out on using a demo club. Smart move!

The key to the 905R is just keeping the club face closed when you swing... nothing complicated.

    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
    • Slight digression on the way to my point. Back in the day there were a lot of people who said that Tiger won because of “the Tiger effect” where people pushed too hard and made mistakes trying to catch him and fell by the wayside. I thought that was BS. It was just that he was that much better than them. I don’t think anything has changed my mind on that.    The hype about Miles Russell is very limited. I’ve seen nothing about him outside of some fairly hardcore golf websites. But I think that the reason those people are talking about him is because he is very good. Same as Tiger. And like I said he just broke one of Tiger’s records. That gets hardcore golf fans to pay attention.
    • No disrespect felt, but since you did apologize you can disrespect once in the future with no guilt.
    • So do a few thousand others. 😉 Something like 14 players born in any year will have PGA Tour status for 3+ years. What drew you to this? He's not from where you live, right? Family friend?
