Hello everyone,
I'm going to be in Dublin from August 14th to the 20th and was wondering where to play, I'll almost definitly play St-Annes but I'm not really sure elsewhere I should play. I am more interrested in links but I'd sure play a great parkland if there is one in my price range(pretty much means under 80-100 Euros a round which unfortunatly excludes both the Island and Royal Dublin),
would love to ear your input,
Simon

Hello everyone,

Have a look here for ideas:

http://www.connoisseurgolf.com/courses.php?r=7 I wouldn't necessarily book with them, unless you are looking for a super-luxe experience. But they have a good selection all over Ireland which should inspire ... //Anand

play just one round and pay a little more and go to Portmarnock old course links played there in May its magnificent or if you have time drive up to royal county down around 1.5 hrs max and play the best course on this God's earth.

I was there a couple months ago. I was taking my daughter to visit colleges so I only had time to play two courses, Portmarnock and Royal Dublin. Portmarnock was great and Royal Dublin was worth playing for the history (and because I am tring to play all 48 links courses in Ireland).

My home town!

I'm not quite sure why you're intent on St Annes... it's nice and all but not fantastic. Certainly nothing compared to Portmarnock or Royal Dublin.

Portmarnock Golf Club is the main one which has hosted Irish Opens and Walker Cup in the past. There's also Portmarnock Links just down the road which is mostly a public course but probably better than St Annes and would be very reasonably priced - I'd hazard a guess around 60euro.

As for parklands, Dublin itself has mostly old-school 100 year old+ parklands that are very short by modern standards and not as flashy as newer courses on the outskirts of Dublin/Kildare such as the K-Club (Ryder Cup) and PGA National.

If you're not that mobile and want to try one of the old fashioned suburb courses The Grange or Milltown on the South side of the city are both very well kept. On the north side, the links courses I mentioned are the best but if you could travel a little further out to Kells, Co. Meath (yes, the place where the Book came from) there's a great course called Headfort, home of one of Ireland's top pros at the moment - Damien McGrane - a recent winner on the European tour.

My home town!

Well I tought St-Annes looked nice...but I guess that from it's own site it likely would have...That's pretty much why I intended to play there but I might very well opt to skip it now

I'll make sure to look more deeply into the courses that you mentioned, thanks alot I really appreciate it Simon

Whiplash if you are a fan of links golf then I think you have to play The Island. This is one of the best links in the country imho and is really worth a visit.

If you play before 8.30am on a weekday the green fee is reduced from €135 to €95. This is pretty good value considering the course…

Portmarnock Golf Club is pretty steep at €190/round midweek. It has all the history and while I haven’t played it, I have heard mixed reports – the ground is a little flat and maybe this takes away from it first time around…

County Louth (Baltray) is worth consideration. Louth is the county immediately to the north of Dublin so is not very far. No breathtaking views or massive dunes but still a true links and the Irish Open was held here back in 2004 and it hosts the East Irish Amateur Championship every year.

I would have to agree with MCG re Headford (New). It is not very far from Dublin and a great parkland layout. It is also very reasonable at €55 midweek and €70 weekends.

And yes, don't forget your raingear!

Thanks Alot StoneCutter, I'll definitly consider looking at County Louth and Headford....rain gear was pretty much the first thing I bought in preparation for the trip, even before my travel case...I'm starting to think that I should definitly have stayed longer there seems to be so many great courses

cant wait to be there in a few days :)
