I took a short-game lesson (putting, chipping, pitching) last weekend and the local pro recommended me to take a look at a belly putter. He switched to a belly putter after playing for over 45 years with a traditional one. He told me he is more consistent with it now and he's really happy he made the switch. Is there anyone here who uses belly putters? Do you always have to change the shaft of your putter or can you buy them with a stock "belly-shaft" ?

I voted traditional, though I dont know if my TM Rossa Spider is all that "traditional".

standard lie, (2) 14g weights, Winn Jumbo Pistol grip....it has changed my game!

If you're going to use a Belly putter, you're best off getting one that is made from the factory as a belly putter, instead of reshafting it with just a longer shaft. Typically belly putter heads are a bit larger and heavier than the traditional heads.

For me, I've never felt comfortable using a belly putter. It's just not a natural feel for me.

Currently I'm using a 32.5" Scott Cameron Studio Design #3 with a Winn Marble Pistol, built up with about 4-5 extra wraps. Before that I was using an Odyssey White Hot XG#7 35" with a Winn Midsize Pistol. I love the Odyssey, but it was time for a change in the head. My head that is.

Traditional. I tried the other types, but don't care for them.

Classic Traditional:

Center shafted Bullseye Blade

I kind of went in the reverse for the use of putters from high MOI to low MOI (mallets to cavity blade to bullseye blade).

Strange, I always thought there were more people using a belly putter. Maybe it's because they're hard to get? I've never seen one in a store and if you look at the website of Odyssey (or other manufacturers) you never see them advertised. Maybe it's the best kept secret of the tour players
Anyway, if you have any experience with a belly putter please let us know.

I used to use an Odessey 2-ball putter, cut down a couple inches, with a Pelz stroke. Now I'm using my old Ping Answer 2i, and stroking Utley style. My feel has gotten WAY better, and I'm putting better than ever before. I've never tried a belly putter, but it seems it would work better with a Pelz stroke than an arc/Utley stroke.

Traditional. I switch off from an old Taylormade Raylor and a Hogan Little Ben.
Both of them have the Winn TigerShark grip. I just love the soft feel of that grip.

what is a "face putter" exactly. I have never heard that term before.

I use a traditional putter. I have tried and tried belly putters, but I cant hit a straight putt for my life with one.

"You have to have a belly to use a belly putter." I heard Feherty say once

theres a guy on the senior tour using one of these, thought it isnt anyone really famous. just remember seeing a highlight. on second thought it may have been one of those semi-pro tours Golf Channel shows sometimes.
