Went to the practice facility at a local course this morning to meet a buddy and work on our games.

Full swing stuff was super on the driver, decent on the four wood and fair-to-suckish on irons.

We hit balls and then worked on putting.

I could'nt leave on that note so I went back and hit some more.

Noticed I was too fast on the backswing...not Nick Price fast but more than normal. I slowed it down which smoothed it up and put me in better positions throughout the swing. I also lightened up my grip pressure and began really making solid contact with my irons. There was a fair left to right wind and I was getting a nice draw into it...yielding a straight shot.

Went back and putted some more and again focused on a slow and low takeaway and light grip pressure. The results were very much to my liking.

There is a reminder taped to my bag....it reads:

123....123.....123.....123

Just keep the rhythm. Golf is a game of tempo. When your tempo is off, you play poor. When your tempo is on, your balance, contact, accuracy, distance, all improve.

On the course, that is my thought in the swing. 123....123.... like a waltz.

Of course, I'm a feel player, so it works for me.

If your method however is more of... "waggle once, waggle twice, left shoulder low to chin, cock the wrists, initiate with the hips, hold the release, rotate the forearm, finish like Tiger, smile at my buddies" ... and it works for you... by all means hit away!

I know quite a few people who should have the exact same thing taped to their forehead as a reminder, not to them but as a warning to others to be wary.

My one swing thought is "keep my right shoulder turning under on the down swing".

I'm also a feel player and have no use for a ton of swing thoughts. I realize each person has their own way to follow. Unfortunately, on the range I get too much advice from those that are mechanical thinkers. I appreciate their advice, especially from the low handicappers. But 95% of it does me more harm than good. That's why when I go to the range I have a piece of tape on my bag that says in bold sharpie letters....

"I KNOW MY SWING IS FLAT"

I don't have any swing thoughts at all. I tried a few and they felt alien to me. If I'm in a good mood I find myself humming a few bars from some song or nonsense rhymes like I do with my kids (dum diddley dum dum), which sounds retarded but works for me -- probably because if I'm in that good of a mood I'm loose and think I can do basically anything, including driving the green. I mainly focus on keeping still, and immediately move into my stance once I take my practice swing and attempt to repeat the swing at the exact same tempo within 5 seconds.

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
