In the world of racing, they had the IROC series...identical cars that were set up exactly the same. The end result was that the "best" driver would emerge as the champion. What about the same format for the PGA Tour? Eliminate all of the technical advantages one piece of equipment has over another, and you level the playing field. For example, everyone uses the exact same ball in one tournament (a titliest built to 1985 technical specs or maybe everyone uses the same TrueTemper shafts from the same period). Give them all the same equipment and let's see who's the best golfer!

I can't imagine a player on the tour who doesn't think he's using the clubs that fit him best. If not they'd switch in a blink, endorsements be damned.

Cleveland Ti460 10.5*  |  Cleveland 17* Steel  |  Mizuno MP60  |  Nicklaus JN nickel plated - 52.10, 56.12, 60.09  |  Ping Anser 4
Play it like you found it.

That wouldn't determine who the best golfer is. Fred Funk uses equipment to a different spec than Tiger Woods. "One" piece of equipment punishes some while rewarding others.

So, uhh, let's not.

Thats kinda crazy. They do have some hickory-shaft tournaments where they use featheries and the like, but that seems like a bit of a bore to me.
