Greetings ...

UPDATE -- For the latest reports on Tiger Woods' Wednesday absence from the Players course, go to this YAHOO! News Service Search Link . Put in either Tiger Woods or Earl Woods, and sift thru the results.

Click-on here for the 2006 Players Championship Media Links and Purse Info

If and when a change to the Players purse-1st prize is announced, I will update the web-page.

Right now, the most important Players Championship media link is this one -- 2006 Field

It has not changed sinced Monday Morning. Today is "D-Day" for Camilo Villegas, Nathan Green, Bubba Watson and the other alternates.

The only senior in the field is Loren Roberts - 93rd on the 2005 Official Money List.

Three players qualified solely on the strength of 10-year exemptions: Nick Faldo (96 Masters), Steve Jones (96 US Open) and Mark Brooks (96 PGA). How many of you remember that it was Kenny Perry who Brooks beat in a playoff?

Because of a change in the 2006 qualifications, Ryan Moore, out 6-8 weeks after hand surgery, was not eligible for the event. Graeme McDowell was also a victim of the criteria change.

Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport

Frank, while we appreciate what you do, please participate in the forums in more than a "here's a link to my site" manner. Otherwise, it's just barely more than spam.

For example, we invited you to participate in the podcast to talk about the "double cut" thing - even sent you a PM - and we didn't even hear from you.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Greetings ...

Thank you for the advice. For the Masters and beyond, I'll put all vital links directly on the bulletin board. I have added comments to the original post.

With regard to Podcast - due to budget and time constraints, I am unable to take advantage of those services at this time.

Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport

Greetings ...

As most know by now, Camilo Villegas was added to the field on Wednesday following Chris DiMarco's withdrawal (minor rib injury).

Early Thursday morning, 1991 and 1997 Players champion Steve Elkington withdrew (reason not yet known). Nathan Green took his spot.

Bubba Watson is now the next alternate in line.

At present, Tiger Woods is still expected to be back at TPC-Sawgrass in time for his 12:33 PM EST Tee Time.

The purse/1st prize is apparently going to remain at $8,000,000/$1,440,000.

Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport

    • Day 549, May 4, 2024 After lessons and working with Natalie, hit some balls for awhile. Just backswing stuff. Forgot about the slightly shorter stuff, though I'm sure it was as they were only about 75% speed with brief pauses.

    • Best drive I've ever hit: I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.
    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
