What are some opinions on the Mizuno MX-23s? I would especially love input from those that have owned them.

AND

What would you guys expect to pay for a 5-PW set (6 irons) that really was in 8.5 or better shape? (assuming the installed shafts fit your swing)

I have my eye on a set on consignment in my local shop. They really are in awesome shape, especially considering this is an older model AND a forged model (which often shows more wear). The grooves are virtually perfect. The PW has a little wear on the center of the face. Even the chrome soles have very little scratches or wear signs. They would be a 9+ easy if it weren't for the PW wear and some shaft burns which look like they may even be improved with a buffing.

I've researched some of the previous threads as well as some internet reviews. I didn't see a thread dedicated to this model, so I thought I'd ask about them specifically.

Thanks for the input!

Anybody? Unfortunately, I won't be able to hit them until the weather breaks next week. The next 2 days here are predicted to be highs in the low 20s and lows of 4* and 0*. That's Farenheidt! (sp?) That's also bone chilling around here, the not so deep south. Thank God for scotch and water.

i was busy shafting them up with KBS Tours.

The Mizuno MX-23 was the first Mizzie I fell in love with - but it wasn't to be...

I almost bought that set twice, but both times they were more expensive than what I ended up getting and both times I regretted it later. Money was a huge issue at both of those occasions and I let the sales person talk me into a different set, both of which were good sets, but in both cases I never felt like I made the correct choice. I still think the 23's are one of the best mix of player/game improvement I've seen in irons (much better than MX-25, which replaced them).

As for the question of how much I would pay, I'm not sure. Considering that model is a few years old now (5-6 years or more?), I probably would not pay too much, but I'd be willing to pay more than just about any other club of that age. I might be willing to go $200 if they were in good enough shape.

Thanks for the input guys! And another insightful post Pi! I did check the PGA guide. They always lowball on resale value. I also checked Callaway preowned. I've found in the past, that a fair price is somewhere between the two. Thanks again.

I have the MX-25 irons and really like them. The stock shafts on the MX23's (dynalite gold) seem to be preferred by many over the dynalite gold superlight shafts in the 25's.

Not sure if it is still the case but the MX-23's were Mizuno's best selling irons ever.

I had these before going with the MP-30's and I always thought the MX-23's were just a very solid and forgiving club. I actually gave them to my cousin who had issues with his slingshot's and he is in love with them, says they hit very long and straight and forgiving.

I loved the MX-23's, I hit them and was going ot buy them but let my buddy get them instead.. so I got the MP-30's which screwed me for over half of last season :( till I traded them for the x-forgeds I have. I really really really liked them, forgiving and good feel.

I loved the 23s and it took a lot of effort to pry myself away from them. They are pretty clubs, not too oversized and not too much offset. I achieved a beautiful, high, piercing trajectory with these. Impact is very solid, definitely not like my 32s, but much better than other game improvement clubs. Definitely very forgiving and I really had a lot of confidence when I put the club down behind the ball. They were even pretty workable, I definitely recommend these clubs, I doubt you will be disappointed assuming the shafts fit you. As for the price of a 5-PW set, I sold my 3-PW set for $250 so I would think under $200 is a reasonable price.

i play the mx-25's, love em, dropped hc from 13-9, enough feedback, easy to work, but they want to go straight. i have the rifle 5.5 flighted and they are perfect.-Ab

Great clubs, had a set and really liked them, but I switched to MX 19's, for a little extra help, as I don't get too much practice time. I would guess 5 - PW would be worth around $175 - $200 in great shape, maybe less with the wear you have described.

Thanks again guys. I still haven't been able to hit them. Where I live, we usually get at least a day or two a week in the winter that is "hittable". For about 3 weeks now we've had ONE day. The very day I had to go to Kentucky for a horse show.

I'm still stopping in the store to sole and waggle them every few days.

Over here in Memphis the weather channel site is saying 40+ for Thurs-Fri and like 50 for Saturday! Of course that's kinda hard to believe with all the ice on the roads right now...

Here it's showing 40,35 & 35 on those same days with a wintery mix all three days. It's about 50 out now but we're getting pounded with a cold, howling wind and heavy rain. It's kinda neat how different the geography and weather is between east and west Tennessee.

Doh! Yeah I guess it's not going to be better by then for you guys. Here's hoping for a few clear days...

I have the mx-23s. They are the best mix of player/game improvement club I've ever hit. They provide a lot of feedback and really reward you when you hit the ball on the sweet spot.

They are my first set of Mizuno clubs, and I am hooked. I was a big callaway fan before these clubs, but the feel is unmatched in any callaway I've hit. If I were to replace them the MP-52 would be the first club I'd look to.

However, they are old and discontinued. I wouldn't pay more than 200 for them unless the set had never been played.

That is exactly what the man wants, $200. After hitting them the other day I took them home for the night and gave them a thorough cleaning with hot water. It's amazing how little they have been used. I took them back and made an offer of $150 to the store owner. I'll be checking back in a day or two to see if the owner will take that.

Thanks to everybody so far who has chimed in. Your reviews were pretty much spot on. I noticed these clubs weren't as forgiving as I thought they might be. I mean that as a compliment to the clubs. Toe hits lost about a club or club and a half distance. Thin shots still motored out but on a lower trajectory. I don't think I hit a single one off the heel. The thing I noticed was that I centered most of the shots. They just set up well for my height and posture. These clubs were a little more forgiving than my Cleveland Cg2s but on a much higher trajectory, which for me, was exactly what I was looking for.
