What public courses are good to play while here 2nd week of april?

Never golfed in Atlanta....mainly play two hours east of there around the Augusta area.


I'm sure the place must be ripe with good tracks, though.

I went to college there.

"Browns mill" is a decent course, but it can be very crowded on weekends (your tee time doesn't matter, you will be put in a line for the first tee). If you can go mid week I say check it out.

Lake Spivey is a great course. A bit of a drive, and a bit more expensive (but still very reasonable). 27 holes, each nine is unique. The "Hillside" 9 is the weakest, but not by much. Make sure its still public though. When i left (2007) they were thinking about going private.

My fav public course is '"Tup" Holmes'. The surrounding neighborhood is a bit rough (ghetto), and the conditions aren't great (not terrible either), but its a very unpretentious course with some really unique holes. The course is named after a man who helped integrate golf in Atlanta, so its a very mixed bag of people who play there which is very nice. 17 is 260 yard par 4 over a giant valley which used to be part of the outer defenses of Atlanta during the civil war. I have a lot of nostalgia for that place.

If you're looking for a more high end round, check out stone mountain, or cherokee run.

You can also go to lmtt.com. It's a great site that has most of Atlanta's courses organized by geography. You can also get information on each course and what it will cost to play.

It really depends on what part of Atlanta you are going to be staying and playing. Most of the nicer courses are North and Northeast of the city.
