I took a video of my swing in hopes that you guys could give me some tips. The first video was with the driver and the second was with a 4 iron.

A couple things that I took note of:

1. My right shoulder is significantly lower than my left in both videos. (I'm left handed for those who don't watch the video) I can understand it with the driver but I've never seen it done like that with irons. Clubs too short? Standing too far away from the ball? Habit? Not sure about this one.

2. On the backswing, my right foot comes up, but I think I can explain that one. The shoes I had on were not really meant for that outdoor grip, and the grass was also muddy from melting snow, so my feet slid around a little bit; probably won't happen with golf shoes.

As far as anything else I'm not sure. Any comments or suggestions on things like backswing, grip, impact and/or follow-through?

EDIT: I uploaded them to youtube but the links aren't showing up right. Anyone know how to host videos for this site?

Do this with your videos:

YouTube filename (except use square brackets instead of <>)

The YouTube filename should only be the part after v= I think. Try the entire address first and if that doesn't work just the part after v=.

My first thoughts are that you doesn't seem to be in balance. The feet are shifting around too much. In your backswing, the right foot is actually sliding backwards. You should work on having a more stable base and to keep the feet planted until you swing down. I see you mentioned this, but from what I see this would happen even with steel spikes, there is too much movement.

You seem a bit bent forward, but it's hard to see, do you have a video of the swing down the line?

I don't have one right now but I plan on making one sometime today.

Is there a way to edit my original post so I don't have videos scattered all over this thread? EDIT: for now, I have a video of a 4 iron from the same camera position. I went out today with intent to keep my lower body more still and it worked well with the driver but when I tried it with a 6 iron all I did was hit it fat (like the divot goes further than the ball fat). I can't post the video because I used a few choice words but I'll see if I can get a better one tomorrow.

yeah i agree with zeph..youre moving all over the place dude..lol. Youre way too tight. Try to relax your sholders a bit and let the arms hang. It frees your muscles of tension and you'll be more fluid. When im standing over a golf ball, my friends tell me that they cant tell if im going to hit it or if im just standing there.

You got alot of moving parts in your swing, i would recommend a couple of sessions with a pga pro to see it he can get you more stable with the legs. You sway and move your weight to the outside of your feet alot. But for starts i would definatly try to relax more over the ball.

This is just something I've observed but I tend to make more consistent contact with my longer irons, despite all the movement. I don't feel comfortable standing too close to the ball, I'd prefer to be further away.

Also, as weird as it sounds, it feels a lot more comfortable to lift up my front foot just a little bit; probably because I was a baseball player for a long time. I can hold a follow-through without falling off balance but is that something I should address regardless?

I also tried to relax my shoulders a bit but since I prefer to stand a little further away it just feels like too much of a reach. Maybe longer clubs?

Take a look at your head in the video: it's bouncing all over the place. The advice about, to relax, is huge, but also you look hunched down at address. Straighten your back & extend your neck upward so you shoulders can turn under your head. Maybe you can think of sticking your chin out; whatever it takes.

You really need to move close enough to the ball that your arms hang straight down at address, too – maybe a fist or slightly more away from your thigh. When you are far away the shoulder turn is too flat.

This is not a rsuoer easy change to make – I know, I made the transition myself – but you can do it, others do.

Get to a range & just force yourself to stand closer & get your shoulders to swing under your head – there’s no other way. Early in the season just don’t worry about the ball flight until these changes feel comfortable.

I see you mentioned moving closer to the ball feels awkward, but that's what changing your swing is supposed to do. You do something that does not feel natural, but it is essential to develop new feelings so the body can do it automatically. When you change something in a swing you've had for months or maybe years, it's bound to feel awkward, but that's a good thing as long as you practice with a purpose and don't go back into old habits, even when your play is horrible. Ofcourse, first you have to find the correct new feelings.

That makes sense. Like I said, I was a baseball player for a long time so standing away from the ball and having a flatter swing just feels more natural to me.

I always felt that when I stood too close to the ball it forced me to compact my swing and that's what didn't feel quite right. I haven't made any full swings yet but I managed to find a comfortable position at address where my hands are much closer to my body, about a fist length away. Now I just have to work on it.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
