I think the Taylormade equivalent of the V1x is the TP black, not tried the TP's or Z-stars so can't offer my opinion. I would like to try the TM balls so I will be watching here for other peoples opinions.

I believe the TM Black spins higher than the Red, so the Black matches up more with the Pro V1 and the Red matches the Pro V1x. Here's the link to TM's site: http://www.taylormadegolf.com/mainle...hop.html#30I10 I've tried all four, and while the TMs are good I still prefer the feel of the Pro V1's for putting. I'm also interested in people's Srixon experience, as I've been thinking of trying them too.

I see, I think I got confused with the Nike one black (being firmer than the platinum).

It would be nice if the manufacturers all adopted similar use for similar terms like "red", or adding an "x" after the ball name (like Pro V1x). We have enough rules in golf to govern the play, it seems we could use some to require manufacturers to adopt a similar nomenclature so we all wouldn't get confused. Of course that would negate half the work of their marketing departments who do a great job of preying off that confusion to get us to buy new things!

Ooops, gotta run right now - I just heard a local golf store got in a shipment of new red/black V1x/y hot hyper turbo spin milled cast forged ball retreivers - don't want to miss out on this month's model!

My buddy just started with some Z-Star's and he said it was really soft for putting. Seemed about the same distance as the V1.

Z star is comparable to PRO V1, they go further than provs but spin less. Same i think with the x vs prov 1x

I believe the TM Black spins higher than the Red, so the Black matches up more with the Pro V1 and the Red matches the Pro V1x. Here's the link to TM's site:

Actually the TP red is the equivalent of the V1 and the TP black is the equivalent of the V1x.

"Both the TP Red and the TP Black - which are designed to compete with the Pro V1 and the Pro V1x respectively - are built around a core made of a proprietary rubber compound called NdV4." -From this review http://thesandtrap.com/balls/taylorm...ck_ball_review One way you can remember is that both the V1 and the TP red have red numbers while the V1x and the TP black both have black numbers. As for play goes, I can't tell ya. I usually go for the middle of the road titleist nxt but just bought a box of TM burner balls. I'm no pro, so for right now I can't see dropping 40+ dollars on a box of balls. I mean two boxes of those balls plus tax and I'm almost at that new wedge I want!!!!

Well see, what had happened was...

I'm wrong about the numbers... the pro v1 has black numbers and the pro v1x has red... the tp red has red numbers and the tp black has black numbers...

but still, it's pro v1 = tm red and pro v1x = black

Sorry, but I'm not following why you say this. The TP black spins more than the TP red, and the V1 spins more than the V1x. These are right out of the manufacturer's respective websites. Therefore I would think the TP black is to compete with the V1 and the Red competes with the V1x. This is also what the local TP rep at their Performance Labs says.

well I was going off this artical...

http://thesandtrap.com/balls/taylorm...ck_ball_review

but I see that they may have switched them since them as that article is pretty old.

My bad if I was wrong, should have checked the date.

So take the TP black for example. Does "for low spin players" mean this ball is for those of you who need more spin - this ball produces more spin? Or is it a low spin ball for people who don't play spin on the ball and are more interested in distance?

I'm all confused now...

"So the new Red is now a lower spinning full iron shot. So if players are actually spinning the ball back too much you definitely want to give the Red a try. The Black has been held to the spin rate of a Pro V1, Pro V1X so players looking for a little extra spin on the irons, its TP Black. For players that have trouble controlling spin because it’s too much, it’s TP Red. Big differences between the two this year in feel and short game spin. When you get closer to the green, where the cover and mantle work together, that’s where they get similar. Red is going to be a little softer, have a nice little check on it and Black’s going to be similar to what Pro V1X is."

ok, so if I want spin around the green, I want the red?

Man this is just confusing... I'm just gonna tell my fiance to pick one so I know it'll just be a random pick. haha

Not to add more confusion..but have you looked into the bridgestone or cally offerings? The B330RX is a spinny ball for guys who dont swing to quick. The B330S is a ProV, B330 is a ProvX. The cally guys figured it out, the tour I is the pro V, and the tour IX is proV1X. easy to follow from them. I think that those four balls are better than the pro V from my personal experience. Thats not to say the Pro V is a bad ball, but i really, really dig the Tour IX. enough bite around the green, and hits bombs off the tee.

Now, about the Bstone, the B330, if i dont have my A Game, i cant play. As if i dont get teh SS up enough, they dont go very far.. whereas i feel the ProVX doesnt loose as much distance when your not getting your SS to the point that its desighned for.

thats just my feelings, hope they help!!

since srixon stoped making the z-urc I picked up some for 20 bucks. 23 dollars or so cheaper than the tag. I loved them. I can't wait to try the z star. I have used the misprint and refabed pro v's and I don't know. I have this thing about being different so even though they where nice the srixons are now my fav. then again they where re fabs so I may have not had the true experience.

Good article find by TyCobb. Good info, but a lot of it still isn't clear. One of the quotes in the article says:

"A lot of players want more spin or need more spin. A lot of players today don’t have enough spin in the golf ball - the TP Black maintains that. So if you’re a lower spinning guy that needs more spin, the TP Black. If you’re a high-spin player that spins too much, I would suggest trying the TP Red."

I read this as meaning the Black is a higher spinning ball - if you don't hit your irons with as much spin, it will give you max. But if you're already someone who puts plenty of spin with your shot, then the Red will be better because it doesn't give you too much. From this, it seems to me that the Black is similar to the V1. This is similar to what the TP Performance Lab fitter told me - I put plenty of spin on the ball with my irons, so his recommendation was to use the Red to take some spin off the driver and still have enough to hold the greens; he also said the same of the V1x.

All too confusing - I think I'll just keep playing whatever I pull out of the bushes at my local course. Fortunately there seem to be a lot of Pro V1's and V1x's knocked in there!
