I was just wondering if any of you guys or girls experience any shoulder pain from golf. My front shoulder(Right shoulder, yes i am a lefty) hurts during my back swing. Anyone else have this problem? Oh and I have only been golfing for 1yr and never had a problem with the shoulder before.

Need to borrow this thread as I'm not allowed to start my own new thread yet.

I always feel very tired after a round of golf, with my shoulder and arm aching. My golf buddy is saying that i look tense on the upswing, and i'm probably using too much arm grease on my downswing.

Does anyone have this same problem or is this normal? How do you overcome this problem?

wait until you CAN post threads instead of taking over somebody else's thread?7

@Superotto Has this been going on for a long time? Because I'm not sure if it's to do with golf.

Hi,
for what it's worth from a beginner golfer, this has recently been happening to me, in my left shoulder/lower left neck ( I'm a righty ). First noticed it after a session at the range last week where I felt I was hitting the ball well and therefore really started powering it.

In my case, I think it's down to overswing. I took some video on my phone and can plainly see that I am breaking my left elbow at the top of the backswing and am coming way over the line. I'm probably fortunate that I could hit the ball at all. Anyway, in my case, I think it's the breaking down of my left arm pulling my shoulder too far around. There's probably all sorts of stretching and twisting going on in the joint. I've also been leading with my left side a lot, which probably causes some jarring when I invariably make bad contact.

I've found a few tips on YouTube about overswing cures, talking about setting the wrists earlier, abbreviating the backswing, and not folding the right elbow
past 90 degrees. Will try some of it out later. I guess I'm curious if your pain is a cause of overswing, as mine seems to be.

I don't think mine is overswing. i feel that if i go out there with an intension to hack the ball, i will come back with upper body ache. On the other hand, i can go to driving range and wack 300 balls and feel less tired than playing 18 hole on course, and I'm sure i don't wack 300 balls on 18 hole. So i guess the issue is probably that my muscle get tense up, while i try to force the downswing. This action probably caused the muscle to ache after the game.

Anyone else has this issue?

If you are new to the game it could just be those muscles getting used to that type of movement. You may try the "soda can pour" exercise.

Take a small weight (2-4 pounds) in your hand, hold the weight at your side. Raise the weight with your arm straight thumbs up to shoulder height, stop, rotate the thumb to point down, then slowly lower.

This will help build up the muscles around your shoulder and can help to eliminate pain. Also, make sure you are stretching well before playing.

Howeveer, if it is some type of repetetive use injury, you may want to lay off of it for a while. I suppose it depends on how painful it is.

Good Luck,

-Beane

You may have a functional tear in your shoulder which is not uncommon. You can have these and have good range of motion, but with a little discomfort. I have a torn labrum in my left and right shoulders from football and rugby contact and weight lifting. A few weeks rest, when it get too uncomfortable, usually does the trick.
