I'm building myself a new 3-wood. I ordered an Aldila shaft rated R/S. If I tip trim the shaft 1/2" the shaft is a "Regular" flex. If I tip trim the shaft 2-1/4" it's a "Stiff" flex.

What is anyone's experience with regular versus stiff in a 3-wood? What should I consider before I decide 1/2" tip trim or 2-1/4" trim?

The driver I have is the compliment of this 3-wood (Snake Eyes Python XL) and the Aldila NV shaft in that one I tip-trimmed to a regular stiffness. I hit that driver fairly straight, medium high, about 235-245 yards.

Whatever insight you might have, would help. Thanks!
I make all my own clubs:

Do you control your (regular shafted) driver okay? You're not long with it, so I'd definitely be erring towards regular rather than stiff in your three wood as well.

Thanks ... the "mistakes" I make with my driver are more swing faults than club/shaft faults. If I hit that square, it goes pretty straight.

I'm leaning towards regular too, just didn't know if there was a huge 'feel' difference in stiff versus regular flex.

There is for me. With regular I spray my driver and three wood all over the place (fast swing tempo), but with stiff I can control it much better.

Ironically since moving all my clubs to stiff shafts, I've also started to work on my swing and game to improve the quality of my stroke. As a result my swing speed has dropped, and I've lost a lot of distance. If you asked me to choose a shaft now I'd probably go borderline regular - but I'm hoping that as my swing gets more grooved, the swing speed will pick back up. In terms of your own swing, everything you've said seems to indicate a regular shaft. I would expect you would lose significant distance if you moved to stiff. If you can hit a regular with some consistency, I'd say that's the shaft for you.
