Im just being ultra paranoid but I took my MP57's that I just bought from ebay to the range today.

Nothing felt "pure" like it did with my demo's. It was cold out today and its been super hot all year so I dont know if that means anything but the clubs just didnt feel right.

That sweet mizuno feel just wasnt there.... My swing was def off too though.

Anyways I called mizuno and asked them about the serial numbers on these clubs and they said they are real, s300, half inch over standard... which is what the guy sent me.

Am I just being paranoid and had a bad day at the range (happens a lot) or might these just be fakes?

Thanks!

Jim

Correct serial numbers do not guarantee authenticity, especially lately. Real serial numbers are easy enough to get a hold of nowadays. Plus, the one iron with the serial number could be real, and the rest of the set could be fake. I went through the same thing with my new X-18R's that I got off of Ebay. Fortunately, the X-18R's are just cheap enough that I don't think counterfeiters even bother faking them.

The irons that I got off of ebay didn't feel as good as the irons that I tried at the store because I'm extremely new to golf, and my swing changes from day to day. When I do manage to swing correctly, I do get that feeling that struck with me when I tried the irons at the store.

Honestly, I'd definitely look into the matter a little deeper. I can see how you could have a few bad swings here and there, but if you didn't feel the same way at all (not even once), then something is wrong.

I don't know about Mizuno, but Callaway irons can be sent to a factory where they are checked for authenticity. Check to see if Mizuno does the same thing.

Good luck!

Mmmm

I think it's far more likely you're having a bad day. Besides even counterfits will hit the ball fine, Mizuno does not have any magic dust they apply to the club before they ship out

2 cents.. (beginner pressure: prove to myself that the money I spent is worth it!)

You are being over confident with your new clubs, and you are expecting to much out of your new set.
slow down and swing the club, not at the ball but through the ball and I believe you will be more then happy.

Enjoy!

I had the same feeling with my new Mizunos as well. I was just swinging bad that day. To be honest, the thought of them being fake never occured to me, I knew I was bad that day.

The reason I was worried, the serial number checked out +1/2" when I called mizuno.

But when I got them I went to get em bent to my specs, and the fitter was like "whoa" these things are like 4-5* upright!

Is this common, do people really get them that upright, or does just hitting them make them go that upright?

I got to thinking that if they were a cheap ass metal then maybe they will bend that much by just playing??

a club cant really be bent up right from hitting golf balls while playing, unless you were using it to hammer the golf balls into the ground.

So were the clubs used when you bought them from ebay?

What does it mean +1/2"? Does that mean they are 1/2" taller? (Sorry still a newb to golf.)

Should the clubs have not been fitted any other place other than Mizuno? I was going to say, maybe the previous owner tried fitting themself and didn't know what they were doing or possibly someone else messed up the fitment?

My younger brother has x-22 knockoffs and I have real x-20's. We can not tell the difference between "feel" of the two. He is actually a better player than I am and hits the ball farther using his knock offs.

I think maybe you psyched yourself out a little to much at the range. Try going back and see what happens.

Typically they won't get upright, but they will get flatter over time.

right on thanks guys, its been confirmed I just suck!

Went to golfsmith and showed it to the fitter, he compared it to other 57's and his experience and said they were real.

I then hit mine with their demo's and when I pured mine, they felt like the Mizuno I know!

So I think its the 1/2" over I have to get used to. Ive been compromising my swing to adapt to the small clubs Ive been using forever, just have to break em in I guess!

You also have a different shaft then the ones that you were testing out. The weight and feel difference of the shaft plus your anxiousness about the clubs could have thrown you off a lot.

To be honest I am very doubtful from anything from ebay (I got caught out). If you are generally doing ok with them stick to it. It is only if you are in serious competition that you need to take care of fakes as they may be non conforming.

Ive also put in a lot of time working on my short game which has helped a ton as well....

This forum is great, and I owe a lot of my progress to these guys, with their tips, expertise and just trying to make everyone better!

    • Here's the bet. Assuming the pursuit of a Tour card holds, who wins their first Tour event? Charlie, or this Russell kid? Bet is off if Miles Russell signs with LIV.
    • It seems like too much work for me. I'm actually surprised at myself for spending as much time on this as I already have. Shot Scope tells me my shots to finish with a 7i is 0.1 better than with my 50 or 55 so I'm just going to go with it. Actually, I tend to be the complete opposite. I've never faced a shot I'm convinced I can't hit. It leads to great heroics and complete flops. Conservative for me might just be someone else's normal.

    • And like Matt said, and I have hinted at… it's ONE ROUND. Because you have to get hot. Better players than him failed to get through. And… Peaked too soon, perhaps. He could also get injured, get surpassed, lose interest or lose his game… Again, if I trusted y'all to uphold the bet, and if the bet wasn't basically a 15-year proposition… I'd bet y'all. The odds are against him, and heavily so. So… he didn't qualify, and he's playing on a sponsor's exemption. Jordan Spieth was 16 years old when he tied for 16th in a PGA Tour event… and I realize that mentioning Jordan Spieth (who has obviously had a lot of success) seems to argue against my point, but Spieth is the exception and he did better at only a year older than this fella. The odds are strongly against him.
