I was having a discussion with a buddy about older metal woods. We were discussing if these older metal clubs ever become "sprung" for lack of a better term. By this I mean they are basically wore out, or no longer a good club.

Is this possible? Likely? well known fact?

One reason I ask, I have always felt unless there is some serious damage to the club, it is fine. I have always been able to take any driver and hit it quite well. BUT, I recently picked up a used driver (tm 510tp) and even though it feels just fine, it seems like a good drive is 25-50 yards shorter than it should be? So I am wondering if it is the club or me? Thanks,

Brew

I'm not 100% sure but i think at least with drivers that the face can eventually go "dead" i've personally seen this happen. My father and another guy that i usually play with both played the same model callaway we began to speculate that my dads friends club was shot and we each hit both clubs back to back to find out his friends was considerably shorter then my fathers. So we came to assume that his friends driver was dead

in my opinion, a golf club is no different than an aluminum baseball bat. by this i mean that over time the trampoline effect of the club is lost the more balls you hit with it. also, i do believe the shafts will wear out quicker than the club head will. the shaft is the engine of the golf club, could be the shaft is losing its torque and softening up a bit. this will also cause loss of distance.
