My quest for a new set of irons has started.

My current short list of irons are:

Adams a7
Mizuno MX300
Ping i15
Tour Edge Exotics XCG

I have spent time at the local golf shop hitting them but since their machine was done, I done have any launch monitor numbers. I am looking for somthing with a smaller sole (smaller than a G10) and not much offset.

So how do you think these compare with each other?

Thanks for your input.

I can give you a little feedback. Last weekend I tried the Adams A4 forged, Mizuno MX-300 and the MP-58. I liked the Adams the least. It was ok but didn't click for me. The MX-300 was very nice. Looks great, good feel, good game improvement without over doing it. I would certainly consider it. The MP-58 was my favorite. Great feel.

I have not tried the Ping i15 or Exotics.

Sorry for my ignorance here (I've only been playing golf 2 years, and have yet to get an official handicap!) but given your handicap have you considered the MP range of clubs? My friend owns the MX300 irons and they are very nice though!

Thats a good question. I have only hit the MX300's and found them to be forgiving. The fitter I was working with did not even suggest anything in the MP line. The said the MX300 is like a bridge between the two lines. Maybe I should give them a try.

Even I play with MP-57s... and I love them. They are cheap right now so I would definitely suggest you at least 'try' some of the MP range, even if it's just the cavity clubs like me.

I figure if I can play well with them (I'm improving) I would expect an 11 hcp could?! See what your club fitter says...

That's silly talk from your fitter. You should definitely try the MP line. I've liked both the MP-57 and MP-58's I've tried. Never liked the MP-52's though.

Never thought of trying the MP series but will give them a try.

Even though I love my 25's and the MX 300's are an updated version, the Ping I15's are sweet. I hit some for about an hour last weekend and have considered purchasing those myself.

I must admit that I am still confused. Has anyone hit the a7 5 iron?

I appreciate all of your opinions. Maybe I should explain a little about why I am looking to switch and my swing. My name is CrazyGolfNut… and… I…am a hooker.

I am a consistent ball striker but am short and straight with a tendency to turn a small baby draw (which I like) into big hooks. I pick the ball with little or no divot. After spending time with two professional fitters and a teaching pro, they all came to conclusion that the large offset and wide soles of the G10 are too much for me. They all independently suggested I look for an iron with less offset and smaller soles and they picked out the irons that I listed. I spent time hitting all except the Ping i15s. I think the only reason they mentioned the i15’s is because I have been a loyal Ping user for years. At this point in my life, I will try just about any brand.

Actually, I don’t like the looks of the new Ping i15 and haven’t heard much about the Tour Edge XCG. The Mizuno MX300 felt good with harsh miss hits and the Adams a7 felt light but smooth.

i am a new fanatic to the game of golf. I need a new set of irons so i got some about 3 weeks ago. I tested the Mizuno MX300, Adams a7, Callaway x-20, and Taylormade burner. I narrowed it down to the Mizunos and Adams - the 2 i least expected to be their. After awhile, I decided on the Adams because they were much better feeling and more consistent. The Mizunos were great, but the Adams just felt better. I have tested them on the course and have never looked back. The BEST part is the hybrids - their so good it feels like cheating. The 5 iron is strange at first but once your used to it, it really goes. It has tremendous forgiveness as well. If i had to do it again, id go with the a7's, no doubt.

I went down the same path as you. I tried a lot of clubs and was looking for which ones felt best and fit my swing. I really liked the Mizuno MX300 better than the 200 or the MP52. Very sweet feeling on impact similar to the MP57. But I found the Adams A4 set just as nice with the same sweet feeling on a good hit and not a bad feeling on off center hits. I liked the A4 better than the A7 in how they felt on impact.

The A4 set is forged and can be adjusted for lie a bit easier than the A7. I had mine fit to +1 deg upright. Also, I only paid $475 for the set including the hybrids, which as a steal. Best price anywhere else was $599. The MX 300s were $720. They are a sweet set too but not $250 better.

The A4s are also more forgiving according to the Adams site than the A7s. The heads are the same size as the MX 300s with similar offset. They also look nicer to me.

Best of luck and go with what feels the best to you.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I can only say that I love my Adams clubs... the brand really took me by suprise as I was not considering them when I first started looking for clubs. The one's I bought felt as good as anything else I was trying, and in my opinion looked the best... se here I am two years later and I'm still very happy with my irons (and hybrids for that matter). Bottom line is you just have to go with your gut.

I would consider the MP line as other guys have suggested. I would pick the MX300 because they have the most traditional shape. I never liked the look of the I15.
The MX300 are also forged unlike the I15. Don't have any experience with the Adams irons but you could also give the Pro Gold (i think that's what they're called) a shot.

I have been testing clubs at the local golf store and ... the winner is....... (drum roll).... the Ping i15.

I plan on ordering them as soon as I prepair "the boss" for my new purchase. I may have to take her out to dinner a few times to soften her up a little.
