I'm not consistant enough with distance to go out and get a $300 GPS to play several rounds of golf every month. I would like recommendations on an under $100 (new) optical scope that is considered fairly accurate.

I am also interested in this! I have heard great things aout Leoplod, but they are a little pricey. I would imagine you might be able to find some sort of hunting scope for under $100, but it wouldnt have the pin techonology that the upperscale units have.

Quite frankly, the optical ones are junk. They depend on knowing the height of the flagstick, on being able to see the entire flagstick, and even then they aren't as accurate as using the on course markings and just stepping off your yardage from that.

Put that cash away and start a fund for good rangefinder, whether you go with a GPS or a laser.

Thanks for that. Looks like I may need to go a bit more hi tech.

You can get a free gps system if you have a blackberry or I phone. Try freecaddie.com

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with my BB 8830 World Edition. The good news is that I am about ready to upgrade a few of the BB's at work (i am the IT guy there) and will probably be getting some new Storms or Curves. For what I need, this may work.
