Below is link to my first video. I just finished taking my first series of lessons and I'm really wanting to improve. I have been practicing a ton and I would like you guys to review the video and be VERY critical. Let me know the pros and cons of what I'm doing and how I can improve. Thanks in advance.

For some reason I couldnt get the video to post directly. Any advice will be appreciated.

Its Rollandia driving range on dayton south east ;b I like the first couple stalls, they have automatic tees that tee up the ball for you ;b

Alignment is pretty good, looks comfotable over the ball
The club head looks like it gets behinds the hands to much on the backswing, like to see it more inline with the hands. So if the camera was set up at waist high, the clubhead would cover the hands.
You seem to try to keep your left arm straight to much and overswing by raising your hands really high. This looks like it caused you to loose your weight to the front side during the backswing, not a good thing.
Then you lead with the hands by casting at the ball instead of unwinding.

Ok the first thing i would do is try to shorten how high your hands get and keep you from falling to your left side in the backswing. When you get that down, i would then work on unloading to your left side by rotating through the ball, instead of lunging your hands at the ball. Your hands should drop as you rotate your shoulders, instead of chopping at it.

Yup, Thats good o'l Rollandaia.

By shortening how high my hands get, do you mean make my backswing more horizontal and less vertical so I will be on a lower plane?

The hole wrist thing is something I was working on just today. I was told to hinge my wrist just below waist high to create more lag. So... it's more than likely being exagerated because I really don't have a feel for it yet. Or is this even the correct approach?

hmmm, Dont develop a flipping habit when they say hinge your wrists.
You gotta work on that head movement a bit, hard to tell given the view but you probably thin it when you miss or yank it left.
So when you bob your head and stuff it causes you to come out of plane
so you're on plane on the back swing til you take it too far up then on the way down you're out of plane and so on
Hard to tell anymore without slo motion

Pretty simple, you aim right, and swing left. Slice. The swing plane is far, far too steep. Your chances of hitting the ball squarely are very small with such a tall plane. You've got to swing around your body, not up and down the line. Hands should go as deep as they can, i.e. behind your back. I would almost say try to get your hands at the top of the backswing under your right shoulder. You need to also keep your right arm tucked into your side, especially coming down. All this is more or less related.

Here's what you do to fix it. Aim straight out as normal. Swing back, then try to hit the ball into the wall in front of you. You can do this from a tee if you like too, and if you do, tee it up high and try to pick it off the tee with an iron without going under it and popping it up. Try as hard as you can to hit that steel panel on the wall in front of you. Let the butt of the club (and your hands) fall down behind your back, and behind your butt, and then out toward the ball from the behind you to in front of you, trying to hit the ball straight into the steel plate on that wall.

Don't worry about anything else, if you aren't swinging on the proper plane, all the lag, hinge, and other junk in the world will mean nothing to you.

DTL is really only good for swing plane.

on the backswing or the downswing?

Lag shouldn't be concious, it should just happen. I think you take the club up too steeply, I could be wrong. Do you slice the ball much? edit: shanks, you beat me to it lol

It's kind of hard for me to visualize what you mean. Do you have any videos that would be helpful?

I didn't record any face on view, but the next time I hit the range, I definately will. As far as bobbing my head..... If I'm understanding you guys correctly, reducing the height of my hands on my swing plane will help my head remain at a constant level?

Yeah, most of my misses are slices. Thats caused by a steep plane?

Forget about bobbing the head, or any of that stuff, we need to get your plane on line. I'll make a video that shows you what to do soon enough. Basically, you're trying to push the ball dead right. Instead of trying to hit it straight, you're trying to hit it well to the right. You aim your feet at a target, then try to hit the ball to a target 50 yards to the right of that one.

Ah.... I see!! That will help me groove an inside out swing, correct?

Yes, but don't worry about that. It will fix several things. Try to hit it 50 yards right, and I mean REALY try. In order for you to swing 50 yards to the right, you'll also be forced to slide your hips forward to get your hands through, and you'll also get your right arm folded and on plane.

Again, don't worry about anything else, just go down and hit that ball 50 yards right.

Ok, I'll work on that and post a video of it. Hopefully, I get some time to do it today.

Isnt the drill to fix i to aim to a target on the right and hook it back
LIke say aim 50 yards right of the target you want to hit and hook it back.
and just keep doin git
but doing it without flipping your wrists too cause that wont help either.
Then work on your head bob cause you'll start hitting them fat

If your having a hard time with that, drop your right foot back, but stay square to the target, drop it back about 6 inches. This will get you the sense of comming from the inside more. Another trick is to put a tee just off to the right of the golf ball, try to hit that tee and have it point or fly towards the right, if you cut it you will fly it left. Thats why if you ever drive the ball and your tee stays in the ground but points to the left, you cut it.

JML22, I think I know what your are refering to, but trying to hook the ball makes me think I should roll my wrist at impact to close off the club face. I know this probably isn't the right way to do it, so correct me if I'm wrong. I dont see how hooking it by closing the face will help me develop an inside-out path.

Saevel25, I can see how this will help. Both, dropping my foot back and the tee drill. I'll start working on that. I just cleaned my clubs and saw a ton of tee marks that indicate an outside-in swing :( Got some work to do!!

BTW, I have one of those training tools with the ball hanging from the rope. Hope you guys know what I'm talking about. Anyhow, would it be a good idea to use this along with the mentioned drills to help develop the right swing path?

Just ignore all that, don't worry. Go and try to hit the ball 50 yards to the right. Don't try to manipulate the club face, don't worry about where it goes, just try and hit a 50 yard push.

I guess work on full extension first, when i went through it i did it at the same time, mind you this was in the winter so i went through 3 months of not being able to hit the ball consistently lol but it timed out perfect for the new season after anoher 3 months of grooving where i'm at now.
Just gotta work on that damn short game now
