My oldest son is nearly seven years now. I have been dreaming of taking him golfing since he was two. Of course, I tried to force it when he was just too young to behave properly on the course. This led to several very embarassing meltdowns by him at my usual golf haunts.

He had been asking me for several weeks if he could golf with me. Since he's now out of school I told him that I would take him this week and we could play nine holes.

He did such a great job today- I was really impressed. We ended up playing with another father/son pair- his son was 10 years old. This was helpful because the other dad understood how these things work. My son was (mostly) quiet when others were addressing their ball, and followed (most of) my instructions. We both had a great time, and I'm looking forward to doing it again soon. Since I picked up the game, I have always hoped that I would be able to play golf with my sons as they grow up, and then their children as well.

That's awesome!

I'm looking forward to the day when my boys can come out. The older one is 4 & i'm going to give him a chance at the range soon. His focus is a little lacking though, so i wouldn't be suprised if that's his only visit for awhile.

I took my 5 yr old daughter out to the range & short game area about a month ago for the first time & we played different games & had alot of fun. I helped her with her grip & that was it. I was teeing up balls for her just off the green & she was chipping on & having a hoot. We left when she started to get bored. I didn't want to push it past the point of being fun. Hoping to get out for a second go at some point in the near future.

I wish my dad would have gotten me into the game. I didnt start playing until my senior year of HS. My dad only plays golf with me 4-5 times a year. He just doesn't enjoy it like I do.

Its good that you have found something you and your son enjoy.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

The biggest reason that I'm playing the game again is that I've seen the positive effect it has on father - son relationships. My brother's three sons and he play golf every week. They have so much fun together and have formed such a strong bond with each other on the golf course that I couldn't wait until my son was old enough to join in. He just turned 12 and we played with them last week and it was awesome! Now, we're scheduled to play every Wednsday. My son and I are already talking golf and really enjoyed viewing the US Open together.

My sons and I play on a par 3 9 hole course. They are 4 and 6. I always get a cart. The tee off a few holes and put a few holes, skipping the boring middle part. We sometimes do the driving range. They last longer if I bring a good supply of snacks and drinks.
