After an abysmal round yesterday I have decided that I am going to cut my driver shaft down about 1.5inches and re-grip it. Its a callaway Great big bertha with a RCH 60 reg Flex Shaft(i think even though I dont know what that means) what I do know is its at least 1.5in longer than my friends/dads drivers.

When I do hit it on the button it soars but I have to like lean over alot to compensate for my hieght 5'9 and the length of the driver shaft and I have been getting alot of misses lately. I also think my clubhead speed is too much for the reg flex and that cutting it should cause the shaft to be stiffer.

Is this a good idea? And where would there be information on how to cut it/re-grip it. Also if I F'up or it doesnt work, or makes it worse I am just going to get fitted for a new driver. But if this works it could save me nearly $200... Thanks guys.

It won't make the shaft any stiffer. You will lose 9 swing weight points which is a lot. Put on a Winn Lite grip and you can get 6 swing weight points back. If you want the other 3 sw points, you can add lead tape to the head.

Just have the local golf shop cut it when you have them regrip it.

I just got an FT IQ driver that has a shaft cut down to 44 inches. At the store it seemed to hit pretty well but i still need to try it on the range. Seems the shorter shafts are the way to go to keep some control. If I need to add weight, what portion of the head do I add it to and how much to start?

Thanks!

I took the new (well new to me) driver to the range with the 44 inch shaft. Wow, it really does make a difference. Didn't really change my swing but boy the slice is gone! Went straight and just about as far as my Burner. Im a believer, the shorter shaft seems to make a difference with the control, unless its the FT IQ head itself. Either way, Im happy!

    • Back in my Army days a "gooch" was a particular part of the anatomy. Example, say Okeechobee is the b-hole of Florida, then Belle Glade would be the gooch. Seems he wears his name well.
    • I can't say that I remember a lot of individual putts, but I do have one specific memory.  The first time I played the Old Course, I had hit a pretty good drive on the 6th hole.  I had about 60 yards left, and due to the swale in front of the green, there was no chance of flying a wedge on or near the green and having it stop on the green.  My caddie recommended either a running 7-iron chip or a putt, and I took the putter and a pretty hard swing.  The ball rolled over humps and through hollows, disappeared into the swale in front of the green, and re-appeared heading right at the hole.  I ended up maybe 12 feet away.  The caddie turned and held out his hand to shake mine, and said "Now THAT was a golf shot!"
    • For the first time since 2021, I made a 3 on the 12th at Stoneleigh.    395 yards, something like 80 feet uphill, I hit a solid drive and a 7-wood to inside a foot.  Even I couldn't miss that one.  I feel like I haven't played a lot of golf this year, but I'm making decent progress.
