Looking for some tips...

So I've been shanking it. Stinks. I've read so much about it that it makes it worse. I got rid of them though but pulling a Furyk and almost re-routing the club to the inside. Worked and so I was happy.

What I've noticed though is in doing this I'm starting to hit the ball fat. Not huge chunk fat but fat. Tips? Normal progression? Thoughts?

Good video on shanks. Do this and not a "Furyk" thing that is most likely causing you to come in too steep on the ball and bottoming out your swing plane prematurely (fats). Other cause for a fatty is falling away from the target like you are trying to lift the ball out there. No idea which you are doing, but your swing plane is goofed up either way.

Have to say, since I have started tryin SnT i have only hit 1 or 2 balls fat or thin again. Not saying you need to do this, but i could bet it has something to do with your weight not being forward at impact.

The thing with the SnT is that when you do mishit, its easy to identify why, and in my case i could tell straight away i didnt have my weight forward, hence hit 3 inches behind the ball.

Well, imagine lining up to a golf, ball, and recreating your impact position for a shank. Sole of club on or a fraction above the ground, hosel touching the inside of the ball. Now, keeping your elbows straight, and without moving your trunk at all, bring the sweet spot toward the ball.

If you really didn't move or bend, you can't get the sweet spot to the ball without the sole of the club moving down below ground level. A movement of the hands inward means a movement of the hands downward, since they can only pivot about your shoulders if your elbows remain straight. So therefore, fixing a shank by bringing the hands in, without also changing the position of the trunk at impact, will just converta shank to a fat. What you need to do is bring the hands in like you did, but also bring the trunk UP. -Andrew
