Suggestions for Beginner's Golf Club Set

Thread Starter

Recently I have gotten the desire to get out and really learn how to try and play golf, but after reading a couple of websites  I cannot get a feel for what a good set of beginner's clubs would be. So I thought I would ask you guys and hopefully get some suggestions. I am looking to spend at most around 600 to 700 hundred dollars on a set. If it matters at all I am 30 years old and a little over 6'2. Thanks for the help!

If you have never played before, go to Craigslist and spend $100 or so on a used set first.  Try to find a fairly modern/recent set, not one that is advertised like "these were my grandpas and I want them out of the way"!  Play with those to see if you even like the game first before dropping hundreds of dollars right off the bat.  It's easier to dump a set picked up cheap on Craigslist than it is to dump a $500 set.  After you have a set, go find a good instructor and get some lesson under your belt.  Learn the basic fundamentals first before you fill your head with bad habits!

Try that for a few months, then go to a PGA pro and get fitted for a set.  Then, and only then, will you know what you should be looking for.

Go to Wal-Mart or Target and buy a set of Top-Flite, Wilson or Dunlops for $200.  No sense investing in a quality set of namebrand clubs until you have played a few years and are sure you like golf.
