Hi,

I was curious to see if there are any soccer/football fans in this forum....

I heard a news just of yesterday which revealed that in 2006, the US biggest sport event watched in TV was the soccer/football FIFA World Cup Final with 260 millions viewers!

In the second spot, the American Football Superbowl with only 90 millions viewers.

It seems very obvious and predictable that Soccer is going to become a very popular sport in US! (hopefully!)

I enjoy watching soccer, especially live. But I don't think it will attain the popularity it enjoys in other countries. I've heard the arguments about the number of kids playing here in the U.S. and how that will affect popularity. But I can tell you that both my kids play (my son at club and school, my daughter at club) and neither will sit still long enough to take in an entire televised match. We did watch the World Cup, and it was great fun. We are friendly with a family from Italy and one from Ecudor and would have World Cup get togethers - a social thing more than anything else. We watched the final match in (of all places) Reykyavik, Iceland and that was great fun - Icelanders know and love soccer. But I don't see most Americans following the game on a regular basis - we have many other things to occupy our limited sports viewing time.

Liverpool! Liverpool! Liverpool!

Need I say more?
I am a soccer nut - favorite EPL team is (obviously) The Reds.
I am hoping Dempsey will go to Fulham though. I really like what McBride has done over there this season.
As far as national teams go - I have to support the US, but my other favorites are Germany and England. Yea I know, how can you like Germany and England - My Father's side is from Germany, My mother's side is from England.

Favorite Player is and will always be Mr. Zidane. Headbutt and all.

The weekends are rough here during the winter - if I am not skiing, I am clicking back and forth betweem The Golf Channel and Fox Soccer Channel trying to get my fixes.

I am always up to talk soccer, so post away!

I agree in the US there are too many sports to follow. I really miss American Football to tell you the truth.. However zidanas headbutt was the best. He should have gotten him with like a trip or an elbow when the ref isnt looking, I mean to get kicked out of yoiur last game and on top its just happens to be during the final of the world cup.. priceless..

Apparently there's going to be somehting now for Americans to follow. David Beckham joins the Yanks! Ha ha. I think it's more for the "interest factor". A sports commentator said he doesn't think Beckham is the best in the world, or even on the new LA team, but people will watch because it's David Beckham. Seems to be about right.

If US soccer is going to take off, it'll probably be because of Beckham joining our ranks.

And if he sucks it up in LA, at least his plastic wife can find other plastic friends in LA. (She is a hottie, though.)

shes hot?? ya maybe 5 years ago before she stopped eating... Beckham sucks there are lots of better players then him willing to go to the states. And as far as this making soccer jump up in the tv ranks, well I wouldnt hold my breath. There were already afew player that tried to "save" US soccer but that didnt happen. Bottom line the scoring facter is too low in soccer to keep tv fan interested in the sport when you have things like football basketball and such..

dont get me wrong I would love to see soccer get bigger in the states however I just dont see Beckham doing that for the sport..

just my $0.02

I am defiantely more than your average "fan" having played and coached at very competetive levels, but the scoring factor has never been the draw when I get excited to see a game. Then again, I am a midfielder - not a striker.

Sure, goals are goals, and they are the , but seeing a great pass, good ball movement and a team passing and flowing well is just as entertaining for me. I am excited to see Beckham play in the states. I am not sugar coating it... we never would have got him in his prime, but he is still a great player and has a lot to offer in terms of leadership and experience.

Beckham doesnt have much of game left anymore. Can still take a free kick with the best of them though. I think Beckham is here to sell seats and t-shirts.
