I am planning to shorten my current TM rescue dual by 0.75 inches. Can the club makers do this by cutting the grip side of the shaft? If so would it change the swing weight? Any other major chages or will the changes be so minor that I can't notice any difference? Any suggestions to how I can change the length without spending a bomb for a new shaft? Thanks.

This amount shouldnt be a big deal.. I cut shafts all the time, if you notice a change in swing weight then that can taken care of without too much work..

How about flex point? Wouldn't cutting shaft bring the flex point higher? How do you change the swing weight if it does affect it at all.. Thanks.

I honestly dont think that you will have a noticeable difference if you cut the shaft down. Yes, you would take the grip off and cut the shaft at the grip side, then re-grip the club. As far as swingweight goes, it will affect swingweight but to what extent im not sure. I dont think it will be a noticeable difference though.

The SW will likely move a few points, you can get an idea of how much by playing with different values in this Excel based swingweight calculator:

That is the reason I stated "if" you notice a difference that can be changed without too much trouble.. and as far as kick point, that wont be a noticeable difference either..

goodluck

schlyer,

No swingweight calculator needed. From a static system, shortening it by each half inch drops the swing weight three points. 2 swingweight points is about the threshold of feel most players can perceive. So three quarters of an inch would yield a 4.5 point swing weight loss. That's D2 going down to C8.5, big change and one you will be able to feel. If you are a tempo and rhythm based player, this can have a profound effect on your game. In order to make that up you need to add nine grams of weight, and with four and a half inches of lead tape required to raise it one swing point, you'll need to add close to a yard of 1/2" wide lead tape to the head before getting there. Take it to a good clubmaker who can add hotmelt to the head, that is a much better method of obtaining this change. As for changing the flex: yes, once you cut down a shaft, it will play marginally stiffer. How much really depends on the raw weight of the head you are using. It simply has to since you are swinging a shorter club with the same weight head, the shaft will not flex as much. However, if you decide to add the nine grams back to the head, the shaft will play marginally softer than it did before.

Thanks for the detailed advise gas_can. I don't know if they can do hot melting in this country but I will definitely ask.

Also, I found a shorter hybrid (Titleist 585.H) and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how this hybrid performs compared to the Taylormade Rescue Dual TP. Thanks.
