Is anyone out there using the 2007 Taylor Made R7 TP irons yet?

I'd like your opinion on them and what else you would recommend as an alternative to these irons?

I hit the R7 today, along with the cal x-20, titleist 755, and cobra fp on the simulator.

Out of all the clubs the T/M felt the best, although I hit the cobra fp's alot better, on average 15 yards longer. swing speed and ball speed were pretty close.

I didn't like the 755 and the cal's felt a lil clunky.

I'm going to keep go back to the simulator and probably demo a set or two in the next couple of weeks.

I want to take my time to make sure I get the correct club for me.

I have been agonizing about whether to get the Taylor R7 TPs or the Callaway X-20 TOURs. I like the blade-like look at address with the R7s and they are very solid irons, but I am putting in an order for the Callaways. I have never owned Callaway irons before, but I really like the X-20 Tour model. They look sharp, they're not as clunky as previous versions, they have minimal offset and they are incredibly forgiving. I feel very confident with them at address. I just don't feel like I can miss the sweetspot. All Callaway clubs are forgiving (except maybe the new X-Forged), but I have shied away from them because they had too many game-improvement bells and whistles and just didn't seem like clubs I could control. I don't feel that way at all about the X-Tours. I have hit them and the R7s and like the X-Tours better. I didn't want to. I really wanted to like the R7s. I am used to playing muscle-backs, so I was wary of making the leap to a club that has such a pronounced cavity. But the proof is in the pudding. I just hit these better.

That's something we all have to keep in mind when buying golf equipment. The only thing that matters is whether the clubs will increase your chances of getting the ball into the hole quicker.

I hit the R7 irons today and they felt pretty good and solid, but I'm probably going to go with the Mizuno MX 23's because they felt a little bit better and didnt have as much as thicker top to them, the mizuno's have as close to blade look as you can get at address but are very forgiving, and I've heard nothing but good about both of them so its just personal preference.

They're the same as last year's.

I played them. I didn't like them as much as the RAC MB TPs - less workable, a bit more... well, they're more like a cavity back than I'd like, and with the weight pretty low. A little dead feeling. If you're a good player who prefers a little more help than a true muscleback provides, they're good. Also look at the Titleist 695.CB or the 735s.

X20 tours are awesome...just be careful with the project x shafts. They frequency out very stiff! We put a set on our machine and while the CPM spread was not that far apart between the irons, they came out at a XXX flex!!!! We also freq a set of x20 graphite regs which came out to an A flex and an inconsistent spread between the irons.

Fyi...this happens all the time with OEMs...not just one particular brand. It's kind of scary, but it is what it is. Typically if it's that bad, we'll pull the shafts and redo them completely. We spec all of our fitting irons and if they dont match what they should be, we pull the shafts and redo them.

I went through the same thing for about 3-weeks. In fact, I purchased the new Cally X-forged in Lauderdale (beautiful Clubs) I wanted to make them work, but I switched them out for the R7 TP's. A week later they opened up a new Golfsmith in my area, I ad a chance to hit the X-20 Tours and considered changing again, from the R7 TP's to the X-20 Tours......?

Then I went out with both sets, the R& TP's & X-20 Tours. The decision was clear, although they're both great clubs, with great feel, the R7 TP's are much more workable and I get the feed back I'm looking for, without a lot of penalty on miss-hits. The 20's are lit'l more forgiving, but I couldn't tell why I miss-hit some shots? IMO the R&'s are a lit'l better club at set-up and workability.

I had heard that before from other people as well, so I went with the Dynamic Gold SL shaft, which I've been playing the past year or so. I like the lighter shaft, because my clubs are an inch long and can feel heavy.

I haven't received my X-20 Tours yet (still on order), so I'm not sure how that shaft matches up with that club head, but I'll let you know when I get them.

just bought TM R7 TPs today DG S300.....so far so good....debated b/w Mizuno MP60s and Titleist 755.....Feels pretty good even though not forged and the long irons are pretty easy to use.....so happy that I got rid of the Mizuno MX-25s (too much weight down low with that shaft).....

I don't know if you read my earlier reply or not, but I just played a tourney this weekend and won a set of the new Callaway X-Forged....

What to do now?

toughy decision.....can't go wrong with the x forged....looks great ..... have you played project x before???? I tried them on x tour once and it was pretty hard to hit.....granted I have been playing s300 for few years and can consistently hit my driver about 260....just make sure the shaft works for you...

NO. But I did demo a 6I into the net in Lauderdale, FL and didn't seem to have a problem with it.

I've also been playing the S300's. What differences should I look for in those Project X shaft's? I heard they were the S--T?

Just bought the Taylor Made R7's and took them out for a test at the range. Love them - almost a club longer that my old X-14's. I tested them out against the X-20's in the store simulator but liked the TM's better. Not as much offset and a better feel for me although it was close. This is not the TP version - I don't think I'm that good - yet!

You're listed as a 10-handicaper? I think they're actually better for you as a 5-15 handicaper, if you have aspirations to get better. They'll actually let you know when you hit one well or not.

But, regardless to your choice of irons, I think you've made a good choice with the T/M's. They put out an excellent product as does most of the big guys. If they feel good in your hands and you hit them well, then good for you. Keep em' in the short grass...

Thanks for the feedback. I play to a 10 but don't always hit it on the button so I wanted some forgiveness. Broke 80 for the 1st time late fall so hopefully I will keep heading in the direction with these clubs!

+1 I bought the R7 CGB's about a month ago. I love their forgiveness and their "hot" face. I can still turn them right or left if I have to, but I'm not that good that I can't stand to have as much forgiveness in my irons. I recommend them to anyone...

I'm actually keeping the R7 TP's, but I'm torn between the Cally X-Forged and the Mizuno MP 60's? I have a set of the new Cally X-Forged, I just don't want to hit them until I can decide whether I want those or the MP 60's.

Any suggestions or opinion on those two sets?
