Let me start off with saying I dont trust their launch monitors at all, I will explain more of why in later in this post. Lets start off with the average stats I got from my launch monitor.

Im pretty sure he gave me the regular shaft so here is what those numbers are.

Club speed: 92.33 (yea im not big hitter)

ball velocity: 121.3

launch angle: 17.5

ball spin: 2,800

carry: 191.1

total: 211.1

PTR: 131.4

deviation: 2.9

ok these numbers looked great for me expecially the deviation, while I was test hitting I used the interlocking grip with my hands. He set me up with new grip etc etc. Total cost was around $465. So I got out on the course and used the same grip with my hands and lost around 7 balls by the end of the 2nd hole, most were lost on the tee. This kinda annoyed me seeing he said most of my shots are straight according to launch monitor but when I got out on course most were not lol. About halfway through the 18 holes I switched my grip to kinda a baseball grip, my fingers were not interlocked or overlapping and it seems to be better for me. It seems like when I use other grips I cant get the clubhead around in time and I slice. I still love this club because its a beast but I just cant believe the launch monitor is that great, not to mention the club they gave me was kinda scruffed up a tad, not horribly just seemed like its been test hitted a good amount.

I know a lot has to do with my swing and im getting lessons on that this really has nothing to do with that but more to do how the launch monitor can tell me one thing and the exact opposite happens when I actually go out and hit the ball. I had zero good hits with my driver trying to interlock my hands but once I seperated them a bit I had some nice drives. Sure I had some slices but they were mild, I think I lost a total of 2 balls after I changed grip. All in all im still happy I purchased this club seeing im building a taylormade bag and wanted this club in there.

Lessons to be learned.  Two different situations will always provide two different results.  Im not sure how you can precisely be fitted for a club when youre not even set on your grip, one of the most basic parts of the golf swing.  Now that you have spent your $465, take some lessons and learn  to hit it.  As far as the club being scuffed up, why did you pay for it?  Also dont focus on the brand name when making such a big investment if you want the best for your game.

I demo hit this club before I bought it on the course and liked how it felt, the only reason I changed my grip was because of the test hit results. I was buying this club before I went to test hit because of how much I liked it when I demo'ed it on the course. And im still happy I bought it because it reduces the amount of slice I have, goes far as hell, I like the look of it.

as for the scuffed up part I didnt look at it close enough or I would of thats totally my fault but it wasnt like huge scuff so unless I really looked at it I would of missed it. So far this club has been the best for my game but honestly the dude at GG really wasnt that helpful anyway. The whole process took less then a hour. This will be my only driver for a couple years for sure and again I really do like the club.

Congrats on a sweet Club!  I opted for the Superfast 2.0,  I liked the adjustments on the R11, but I was afraid I'd use them as a bandaid to fix my slice.   I'd rather get my technique right, then tweak as needed.

Take Care!

Agreed, I have the Burner Superfast 2.0, and the salesman at Golfsmith showed me the R11 and all the adjustments, but I read earlier in Golf Digest that the adjustments are just that "bandages". I want to simulate my good swings to perfection and that would only make bad swings look good (then when you properly swing the club is not adjusted). Seems like fixing your swing is better because it will work on all your clubs. But I do like the fact you can adjust it from 8.0 - 10.5 loft (which would come in handy on windy days like we have here in Chicago)

Yea I haven't used any of the adjustments, everything is set how I bought it. I actually don't plan on using the settings to fix my swing. Going on the course again in about 2 hours will let you know how it goes.

I have to share my Golf Galaxy launch monitor story.  Awhile back I was in the market for new irons, when I walked into the store a guy about my age (45-50) sized me up as a buyer and was on me like glue.  First he wanted to me to hit the Burner Plus, "No one in the world has a shaft like this, only TaylorMade, you can't buy a shaft anywhere that comes close".  He had me get in my stance with the club and push the head against his foot, "feel that? It's incredible!  feel that flex!  nobody has a shaft like that!", he even started to go on about space age alloys.

I told him I had already played my friends Burner Plus's and wanted to try out the Mizuno JPX or maybe the Titleist AP1, quick as a wink he had a MX1000 in my hands, (they're on SALE!!!).  I get on the carpet and while I take a swing he asks me what my handicap is, I tell him 19, he says, "whoa, not with that swing and that club, you're way better than that", it's the middle of winter, I haven't swung a club in 2 months.  I catch one ok and then a couple more pulled hard left, then a few good ones.

He tells me the insurance company won't let them use "real" balls, only super low compression  "nerf" balls and that he has to add 9 yards to the results.  He says we have to throw out the pulls left because they don't count, throw out the short ones because they weren't my "regular swing", and how about that, I'm hitting a 6i 190 average!  "I told you, you can't hit this thing anything but straight!!, look at that distance!!", (I'm a 52 year old man, I hit a 7i 155).  He goes on and on about how I need to "get them today!!".  One of my friends is now openly laughing.  We leave, I haven't been back to Golf Galaxy since.

I'm not suggesting all Golf Galaxy's are like that, there may not be another guy like that at the Golf Galaxy I was at.  But it's a fair drive to get to it for me, and I just don't feel like going back.

I was in the market for some new irons a couple years back when I was still in college.  Even though I was young (probably 20 at this point), I went in dressed well, had the money to pay for new clubs, and worked at an upscale golf course (Pumpkin Ridge in Portland).  I walked in there wanting to try out some clubs and they didn't even give me the time of day.  I swung some clubs in the simulator but got no help at all along with the "are you done yet so we can get some real customers in here" treatment (not said in those exact words but I'm sure you guys get the idea).  I walked out of the store with nothing that day.  Just picked up a set of AP2's recently and it was not from them.  I am out of school with a good job now and I will not be visiting them for new clubs in the future.

good stories, I will have to look around when im in the market for new irons which should be in the near future because im not thrilled about having to go to golf galaxy again. The only problem is the main 2 places around here are them and dicks and neither I really want to go to. The one that helped me tried to rush me through the process as soon as possible. Anyway didnt get to play much today on the end of the 1st hole my son got stung by bee and we went home. :(

As i'm from the Netherlands i could not tell anything of that golfshop,

i was fitted in on the R11 driver in the local golfshop ( jumbo golf )

i did get all the time that i need, tried 3 shafts and we changed the

settings of the club.

I now have the Aldila RIP stiff shaft in. and have the faceangle open and rest standard

My numbers where:

Swingspeed: 99 mph

Launchangle 10.2 degrees

spin 2800

carry 265 yrd

total 290

as from the monitor the ballflight was the same as on the course little draw.

Totaly happy with this club, can't wait to get the 3wd and the hybrid 2 iron, the aldila rip shaft

is a custom order, hope i have them in my bag soon. Only have some worries about that,

custom orders over here with Taylormade is sooo bad, takes them about 5-6 weeks.

3 wood: Mizuno JPX 825 14 Fujikura Orochi Red Eye Stiff 75 g.

Too bad my airline don't fly to the Netherlands. Just found out my golf club does fittings, next club gets fitted by them and if the driver does not feel right will see what they say. Bottom line is will never be fitted by golf galaxy again.
