What kind of difference is it going to make if you reduce the weights installed in an r9 tp driver from the 18 grams to ... say 8 grams?  Does this change the performance of the club?  I have played mine with the 16 gram weight in the rear of the club but don't need the extra height this produces... wanting to lower the ball flight, but can't with just the 16 and two 1 gram weights.  Have some 6's and one 12 from another club I kept, I guess I could put the two 6's in heel and toe and keep a 1 in the back (makes 13g vs the 18g from the mfg)  ???  Thoughts??

Don't assume that weights from system whatever will fit in your R11.

Sounds like a good idea to try, provided the weights you have will fit properly.  Going from 18 to 13 gm is only a 5 gm change, the swing weight effect will be minimal.  It may not feel any different or change your ball flight at all, but thats the fun thing about adjustable heads.  You can change things and find out easily.

Well, I tried reducing the weight down to 12 grams and MAN did that screw up my swing.  I was hooking everything and probably lost about 5 yards or so on really good drives.  I decided to go the other direction and increased the weight (only by 1 gram) and redistribute it to 6 in the heel, 12 in the back and 1 in the toe.  We are back on track now with a much better chance of getting a draw than before.

I started this with the 16 in the back but if I closed the face it still would not draw (I'd end up with a pull fade), but would be incredibly inconsistent with the 16 in the heel.  This new configuration seems to better balance things out for me with the NU setting.  We'll see how things go from here.  Thanks.

Consider them a means to adjust swing weight.  A few years ago, Tom Wishon did a sturdy using living, breathing humans swinging the clubs (around scratch players).  He found that with the very best ball strikers he used for the test, it took right at 30g of weight being moved in order for a measurable effect to be seen.  If they had a draw, they could slightly reduce it.  If they had a fade, they could slightly reduce it.  For player with more of a slice or hook, it took 40g and more before they noticed are slight reduction in the ball flight.

FWIW, 2g of head weight = 1 swing weight point.  So 4g = 2 SW, 6g = 4 SW, and so on, and so on......  Get the swing weight too far off of what you like to swing, and it can lead you to do some things in your swing that you don't normally do... screwing up tempo, transition, release, etc.
