Looking to make a few changes to the bag. Recently (last year) upgraded to some burner 2.0 irons and love them.

I'm now looking at my fairway woods... currently carry a 3 & 5 wood. Never hit the 5 wood. Rarely felt the need for it plus i've found it a tough club to really hit well.

What are peoples thoughts on perhaps ditching the 5 wood for a hybrid? Not sure what sort of hybrid I would need... My irons run 4-PW and hit them all quite well (most of the time!). I guess my sort of hybrid would be something similar to a 3 iron loft that I can play from the rough? Though I'm not sure on this. Currently when I'm in trouble I don't get too agressive with my recovery and will often hit a safe 4 or 5 iron...

I'm also looking for some more distance off the 3 wood (it's 10 years old and goes only a little further than my 4 iron...) so may well get sucked into the rbz hype again...

keen for peoples thoughts. should I just ditch the 5 wood, upgrade the 3 wood and wait and see if there is a need for a hybrid at all?

cheers!

I would upgrade the 3-wood for sure. What is the loft on your 4-iron? If it's a strongly-lofted GI iron (21* or so), you could go with a 15* 3-wood and a 18* wood or hybrid, and that would leave you with room for one more club, maybe a GW there's a large gap between your PW and SW.

Thanks for the feedback. My thinking was along the same lines.

4i is 21*

I've been thinking about the wedge gap as well. the PW is 45* and my SW is 56* so I've thought of something arounf 50-52* to somewhat fill that gap.

It's just a matter of budget!

I think the 3 wood will be first...

Im going thru that right now too. Im looking for a new 3 wood, and Im going to replace my 5 wood with a 3 hybrid, I think. I just never use my 5 wood anymore. Technically the loft of a 5 wood would be more similar to a 2 iron/hybrid. Ive thought about adding a 2 hybrid also, and playing a 4, 3, 2 hybrid combo with a 3 wood, instead of a 5 wood & 3 wood. But like I said, I never use my 5 wood, so why add a 2 hybrid? I think maybe an extra wedge would be better for me and my bag.

In my Ogio bag.

Titleist 910D2 driver, Adams irons & hybrid, Callaway wedges & a Nike Method putter.

And a yellow ball.

I ditched both 3 and 5 wood and put a 4 wood in the bag. It is as long as a 3 wood off the tee and is much easier to hit off the fairway. Mine is 17 degrees. Leaves room for a hybrid between the fairway and 4 iron. As you have the Burner 2.0 and are liking them, TM makes a gap wedge as part of your set, it's a 50 degree. Could be an option.

In my Sun Mountain 14 Way Stand Bag:

Driver - Ping G30 10.5* : Fairway - Ping G30 18* : Hybrids - Titleist 915H 21* & 915 H 24* : Irons - Mizuno JPX 850 Forged 5 - GW : Wedges, Vokey 54.14, Vokey 58.12 : Putter - Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 or Ping Craz-E-R  : Ball - Bridgestone B330RX, Cart - Cliqgear 3.5

I don't play with a driver because I can smash my 3 wood and I can't hit the driver to save my life. I have a 5 wood, though I never play it. I have a 4 hybrid and 5-PW plus a 52, 56, 60 wedge.

I could live without my 3 wood since it is the club that I hit most often. I hit it off every tee (par 4 and 5) and off the fairway.

Thanks Jmdmbike, I did see they have a 50* wedge but being a lefty I'm having trouble sourcing it... Was told at my local shop it would be difficult to get considering it's last years model... Was actually pretty unimpressed by their sevice TBH. I did find a 52* RAC tumble wedge which i think I like. I already have the 56* and hit that really well.

I also had a look at the options with the 3 wood. I had a swing of the burner 2.0 as well which felt pretty good and seemed to really pop off the face but it had a winn grip which I found really slippery. Would like to try the rbz and of course some other makes and models but i'm pretty limited with my left handedness. Who would have thought that a major golf chain (Drummond Golf) in Melbourne they would have so few options for us lefties?!?
