Hey all,

I went and hit a few Mizuno clubs this week and really like the feel of the new MP-59s. However I also hit the JPX-800 PROs and really liked their longer irons. I currently have a full 3-PW of MP62s and find the longer irons unreliable.

I was considering splitting a set of irons into JPX800PRO (3-4-5), MP59 (6-PW) or (3-4)/(5-PW).

My question is where do most people split sets? Is it more common to have 6-PW or 5-PW or even 7-PW. I realize it's personal preference, but out of interest I just wanted to see what people are doing.

You gotta hit em and see what works for you.  Use a launch monitor.  That said most people typically split the set at the 5 or 6 iron.  You may also want to test a hybrid or two and see if you hit them better than the 3 or 4 iron.

Putter:  Callaway ITrax, Scotty Cameron Studio Design 2, Ping Anser 4

Longer irons will always be harder to hit, but mixing may help.  Many modern sets do mix/split it for you.

Personally, I prefer consistency through my irons, although my hybrid and hybrid woods are "split".

I'm really interested in the same type of set, I think you'd have to hit each to see what kind of yardage gap you have when splitting the set, and which of the mp59 you can still hit accurately

Driver: Machspeed Black 9.5

3 wood:  Insight

Hybrid:   A4  19 degree

Irons:   CG red 4-PW

Wedges:   CG12  56 degree and CG10 60 degree

Putter:  White Hot XG Sabertooth

I don't see how having 69s at the top of the bag are going to make the 59's 3-5 iron easier to hit.  What you should do is go MP69s 6-PW and the do hybrids for 3-5. It would confuse the heck out of anyone who saw your bag.

LOL you are right that would really confuse someone. However when they realized that I can't hit those hybrids because I don't like the way they look then they won't be as confused. The MP59's 3-5 are easier to hit than the MP62's I currently have. I did notice that despite the stronger loft angles the JPX800Pro seemed to send the ball higher than I would like.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
