I've been playing for a couple years now and until recently was hitting my irons pretty well.  I upgraded my starter box set to Ping G5 irons which I just sold today.  The reason I sold them was ever since I was given a 5 hybrid......I cannot hit my irons anymore.  I shank nearly every shot with my irons.  It frustrates the heck out of me.

My thought was to buy a hybrid set.  My current clubs are:

TM burner superfast driver - 10.5 degree - stiff

Nike sasquatch 3 w - 15 degree - stiff

TM burner 08 3 hybrid - 19 degree - stiff

TM burner 08 5 hybrid - 25 degree - stiff

Ping G5  U (gap) wedge  - 50 degree (i kept this when I sold the 4-pw)

Wilson Sand Wedge - 55 degree

TM Rossa putter

I'm thinking I'd like the Adams 6 and 7 hybrid irons due to their bulk

but i'm attracted to the taylormade set as well - it's $13 cheaper (not a big deal but it's there) and my entire set would match, less my 3 wood and sand wedge

Thing is.....the reason I sold my irons was to get something easier to hit.   I know the G5's were great clubs......but I just lost my consistency for them.

Has anyone ever hit a 6 or 7 hybrid?  Are they much different than the cavity back irons?

I'm going to go to golfsmith to check out the differences for myself......but in the mean time I'm online doing research......any help would be greatly appreciated.  Recommendations?  if you were in my shoes, what would you do?

in my bag right now -- working on upgrading

G5 10.5* driver
Sumo2 15* 3wood
everything else - XL series ($199 set)next step is a putter..........then irons

I play the Nike sumo2 set from a few years ago which are 5-7 hybrid 8-Sw irons. Personally although I hit the hybrids ok I actually prefer a more normal iron set and are looking to replace them. I even will borrow one of my other lefty friends 6 or 7 iron in some situations just to avoid hitting the hybrids from certain lies. It's not that they're bad though.

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
