New here obviously but not super new to golf. 6'1" and average build. Have every swing and club down but my driver; It's truly irritating. Of course the driver is a 10yr old Walmart club that is probably extremely poor..was never able to hit with it. Have a set of nice ironset + 5,4,3fairway woods Maxflis C3s I got from Dicks Sporting Goods. Good deal and feel great. Been lurking and feel its time to chime in and give/take from this forum. I hit my irons beautifully.. just need the big boy to fly true. Been reading on here on drivers, stances, etc.. still hoping to benefit from the info.

Welcome to the forum! We're practically neighbors as I'm in Plainfield.

if money is tight, check for used clubs at various shops.  Stay with top brands and look for one that feels good and fits your eye.

you ever play Orchard Valley?

Yes. It's quite a course. So is Maxfli not a good brand? Golfsmith has a lot of used clubs..but I really am unsure what to look for.

depends on how deep your pockets are.  I'd say look for a Callaway or Taylor Made that's a few years old, get the appropriate flex shaft and maybe a higher loft(10) because they're easier to hit.  Have a fresh grip put on and get r done

I'll talk to my father and see if he wants these Maxfli C3s. It's a good set, but if I need to be working with a set of quality named clubs.. even used.. so be it.

I'd love to have a set of beat-up PINGs.

I thought you were just talking driver, if you're hitting the other stuff good stay with it and find a driver you can count on

I've got a couple of spare drivers. Maybe we can get together and you can give them a try.

yeah i think we were discussing two different things, ha.

I recently bought a Callaway ft-iz driver, reg flex, 45inch, 9degree.

i made another thread where i discussed it a bit more, and the problems i had with the one I returned.

but this driver is truly a solid driver, hits like a dream. i might get a new grip for it though, something more stable. still unsure whether or not the head is the way I want it.. feel like the fact that it's put together by 3-4 pieces makes me feel weary that it will fall apart.

Plainfield truly isn't far away.. i'll have to get more comfortable with my game before i play with others outside of family and close friends. Once I get my driving stance, swing, etc figured out.. I'll definitely be more confident in playing with anyone and everyone. Only piece missing.

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
