I have been a forum member for a couple of years but have just been lurking in the forums.  I recently got the Butch Harmon DVD and have found it so useful that I wrote a mini review for my fellow members and I encourage you to check out the DVD.  It has turned my game around 100%.

A couple of months ago I was in a bad place with my golf game.  I found myself over thinking my swing, worrying too much about mechanics, and worst of all; trying to compensate for my inconsistencies by changing aspects of my swing with every round and practice session.  If someone said you could pick 1 teacher to help you with your golf game who would you pick?  I bet near the top of your list would be Butch Harmon.  All Butch knows is golf, and specifically teaching the golf swing.  He grew up hanging out with his dad, (1948 Masters Champion Claude Harmon Sr) on the range with the likes of Sam Snead and Byron Nelson.  He has taught some the world’s most successful golfers including Fred Couples, Ernie Els, Natalie Gulbis, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Greg Norman, Adam Scott, Nick Watney and, arguably his most famous student, Tiger Woods.

When I found myself struggling with my game recently I turned to Butch Harmon’s new DVD; Butch Harmon About Golf .  After watching it I was excited to go to the range and work on some of the things I realized I was doing wrong.  The next time I went to the range I noticed that my grip was a little bit weak and my grip pressure was too tight.  I thought back to the DVD and remembered an entire section on the grip.  I went home and re-watched this section and completely understood and agreed with what Butch said.  It isn’t so much what Butch says in the DVD that I have come to love it is how he says it.  I firmly believe that so much of teaching golf is not what a teacher says, but how they get the message across.  Everything Butch says is so easy to understand and relate you your own game.  I subscribe to all the golf magazines, have read plenty of instructional books, have watched many instructional shows, etc… and even though Butch is teaching you the same things you have heard before something about the way he teaches makes these same concepts sp easy to understand.

Since watching the DVD for the first time I have gone back and re-watched different sections several times.  Each section, whether on Set Up, Grip, Posture, Backswing, etc… is short enough to be easily absorbed, but complete enough to not leave you with unanswered questions.

Another area that I have benefited immensely from is the specialty shot section.  There is a section where he teaches you how to hit special shots like low shot/high shot, uphill/downhill lie, etc… and the Stinger that Tiger has used so successfully.  After watching that section I went to the range and found it incredibly easy to hit the stinger.  I now use this as my go-to tee shot.

I am convinced that almost anyone from a 25 handicap to a scratch player will take away just as much valuable information from the DVD.  After watching the DVD and it’s many specialized sections many times in the past couple of months my handicap is the lowest it has ever been and I stand over the ball with confidence I have never had before.  In my opinion this DVD has paid for itself many times over with a retail price of just $79.

Great endorsement ... or infomercial.

I'm watching Butch's DVDs for the purpose of reviewing it. I've found it fairly simple and helpful so far.

I would forego the magazines and books ... for your sanity.

I did a review of it a few months ago for the TST main site: http://thesandtrap.com/b/tvmedia/butch_harmon_about_golf_dvd_review I might have been a bit easy on it, but it's still a solid DVD if you're interested solely in the "how" aspect of what Butch believes is the correct way to hit a golf ball. He doesn't go into the "why" at all.

    • Went to a PING fitting day today. Going to be ordering a G430 Max 3w with a 75g x-stiff shaft at 5w length and a 3h. I forget what my fitter did with the shaft on that but she told me she’s going to email the club the specs of everything. The 3w combination we found pretty quickly. As for the hybrid, we tried a bunch of different head and shaft combinations for that distance with mixed results. Then she handed me the 3h and I took three swings with it and knew it was the one.
    • Yeah, this isn't sandbagging. It's outright cheating. He should be banned.
    • That’s quite a generalization. It’s clear that you don’t like water but there are plenty of us that drink it just fine. My daily intake is usually about 20oz of black coffee, 16oz of soda, 8oz of milk mixed into a protein shake, and anywhere between 30-60oz of water. It doesn’t even need to be cold and I kind of prefer it closer to room temperature than cold. I quite like the taste of tap water, with sole exception being the tap water at Magic Kingdom (it’s terrible). I can’t stand when people bring me tap water with a lemon wedge in it. I didn’t ask for lemon in my water.
    • This is the part I don’t get. He’s not even kind of sandbagging, he’s blatantly doing it and submitting scores that are verified to be incorrect. How he’s not banned from competition is beyond me.
    • He's right in what he's saying.I also have done this experiment with a golf shaft swinging with one arm at a time.one arm at a time is for me very fast but both hands together are very slow ..I got my 17 year old son to do this experiment and he swung very fast with either hand and he swung very fast with both hands together..My conclusion up to now is ; I'm not using my wrists properly but I not a 100 percent sure just yet..I will keep trying to fathom this out .I'm a 12 handicap and my son is 3.9 at Westlancs..
