Ping G 10 compared to Taylor Made R 11

Recently sold my Ping G 10's and was custom fitted with a new set of R 11 irons 4-AW. These new irons are 1/2" longer, standard lie. My Pings were standard length and standard lie and were purchased second hand from a fellow golfer. My set-up with the R 11's is nearly the same with the exception of not having to lean as much due to the difference in shaft length. I'm making a consistently deep divot and unable to figure out why. This affects my ball flight and distance. I did not have the problem with the Pings and was much more consistent on ball striking. I've been to the range and made strides with my 7 iron, however, never determined definitively what was causing my contact with the ground. I tried multiple irons while being fitted and the R 11's seemed to be the better fit for me. I'm definitely not bias towards a specific brand and remained objective through out the fitting process. Need some constructive advice.

Why did you sell the Pings?  I tried a buddy's G10 and loved them, even though he is 29 years my Senior and has Senior flex shafts.  i like them.  I have not tried the Taylor made R11 because nothing by them really blew air up my skirt.  But my son Loves his r7's.

To answer your question it was one of those "wild hairs" impulse purchases. Little bit too much money in my pocket. I went to the pro shop with the idea of having my Ping G 10 irons customized. I needed a little more length to give my back some relief as I addressed the ball.  My professional club fitter began allowing me to hit several new irons and I fell in love with the R 11's. They just felt very good in the fitting room. I probably hit around 175-200 balls divided between several clubs and brands and I categorized them based on feel and performance.

I would have more invested in the Pings than I would ever be able to re-coupe.  By going longer I needed stiff shafts based on my swing speed. The end result is that I have some awesome clubs that I need to figure out how to strike the ball more precisely and consistently.

Constructive criticism accepted.

Why make two threads in the same sub-forum on the same subject, asking the same question?

Start a new thread if someone posts something negative?  Just report their post.

As I asked in the first thread, are you contacting the ground before contacting the ball?  Did you try gripping down a half an inch?  If gripping down works, pull the grips and lop 1/2 off, and not care what it does to your swing weight, because the shop probably didn't swing weight them anyway.  If you are taking a divot after contacting the ball, then it's a non-issue, the ball is already long gone.

Was your fitting taking from static measurements, or was it a dynamic fitting?  My first ever fitting was based off only wrist to floor measurement, man was that way off.....

If the clubs were fitted to you properly, then the issue most likely isn't the club.  It's the grey matter between the ears.

Yes, I am making contact with the ground first. I have tried gripping down and that puts me back in the same situation I was with my old clubs. I was fitted trying in an attempt to get some back relief. The longer clubs allow me to stand a  little straighter. The floor to wrist measurement was done statically, however, I was also tested dymanically to determine my lie angle with carbon tape on the base of the club.

About starting the new thread; I didn't realize it presented a problem and didn't really give it allot of thought. If it's a problem for you I will try to refrain.

I take it that you are tall since the longer clubs fit better. I am and find longer clubs introduce a looseness if not careful.

"how to strike the ball more precisely and consistently."

This works for me:  . Lessen your swing width/height /looseness/sloppiness.

Set up as you wish, what has worked for you.

Do a one piece take away for the first 2 feet or so while keeping your elbows snug to your ribs

While the hands are very low cock the wrists raising the club head high

Continue raising your left arm rise as high as your right shoulder like a one plane swing.(not the 2 plane very high triangle)

Complete the shoulder turn.

Hit the ball as usual.

This works if you are not very weak and rely on a lot of motion to substitute for lack of strength.

When I get loose and then revert back to this swing I will gain about 15 yards on the club due to solidness of strike

Its probably just a matter of getting used to the longer shafts.  It takes time, particularly with the long irons.  I have the burners and seriously considered shortening them but eventually got used to it.

1.  Your first thread, you said you were pretty successful with the G10's.  So what exactly was the situation with them again?

2.  The new thread isn't an issue or a problem for me, though it's frowned upon, but it sure as hell makes it easier to try and help you, if you keep all your thoughts on the same subject confined to one single thread.

3.  Try moving the ball back and out a bit when you address it.  Post a swing video.

Exactly what was said in the previous thread.  An adjustment period is all he probably needs.  I guess 3 days wasn't long enough.  I think he was hitting them fat off the mat at the fitting facility, and he was getting a false sensation of hitting it "pure", which apparently can be quite a common thing (off a mat).

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
