I have a taylormade R11s driver with the stock aldila phenom shaft (stiff shaft). I hit the club the way i want some of the time, but consistent control and center face contact is more important to me than distance (averaging 260y to 270y). I want to cut the 45.75 inch shaft about an inch and a half to 44.25 inches for more control. I was advised cutting the shaft from the but end will not affect the shaft flex or kick point, but it will affect the swing weight which is currently at D-4. My question is for each half inch cut from the shaft how much weight do I need to add to the club head (lucky that R series taylormade drivers have external weights that can be increased or decreased)???

Driver: Taylormade R11's 10.5

4 Wood: Taylormade R11's

4 Hybrid: Taylormade Rescue 11

Irons 4-PW: Taylormade 2009 Tour Preferred

Wedges: Taylormade XFT Z, 50, 54, 58

Putter: Odyssey white ice #7

Here's a good link on swing weights: http://www.golf-components.com/swing-weight-chart-woods.html Looks like you'll have to add about 12 grams of lead tape to your driver head to restore the swing weight if you cut off an inch and a half.

I want to keep the R11s driver at the same swing weight D-4 after the shaft has been cut.

Every half inch equals 3 swing weight points, and every swing weight point equals 2 grams on club head. So you need 6 grams to balance half inch cut. For an inch and a half, that means 18 gram on the head.

That's the key; I will use those measurements, thank you.

The nice thing about the R11 series is that he won't need ugly lead tape.  He can just buy heavier weights for it.  A lighter grip will help also.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
